1 JOB TITLE: Stone Layer Mason LEVEL: 2

2 JOB DESCRIPTION

A Stone Layer Mason, L-2 checks quality and quantity of construction materials, set outs building and engineering structures, constructs foundation bed, foundation band and vertical reinforcements at corner, builds stone walls in Rubble and Ashlar masonry, constructs corner stitch, horizontal band, gable band and vertical reinforcements at jambs, sets and fixes frames for doors, windows and ventilators, performs concreting works, performs repair/patchwork in existing stone walls and strengthens existing stone masonry walls.

7 TASK PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Instructions : Verbal/written instructions, drawing/sketches. Tools and equipment : Measuring tape, pliers, Taktake/Mairee, gauge box, wheel barrow, basket (tokari), shovel, karai, spade,

mortar board/mortar platform , mason’s trowel, water drum, bucket, mug, bicker/bottle and personal protective equipment (apron, gloves, goggles, safety boot, mask, helmet).

Materials : Stone, wood/bamboo, cement, mud, sand, coarse aggregates, admixture, formworks, nails, steel bar/ binding wires, galvanized iron wires.

8 TASK PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

1.1 Verbal/written instructions and drawing/sketches received, explained and followed without major deviation.

1.2 Required tools and equipment materials collected and checked.

plumb -bob , water level, shovel, spade, pick, claw hammer, post hole digger, saws and personal protective equipment.

Material : Stone, lime/sand, nails, pegs, stakes and batter board/hurdle.

8 TASK PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

2.1 Verbal/written instruction, sketches and layout plan received and explained/followed without major deviation.

2.2 Required tools, equipment and materials collected.

2.3 Reference point marked as per given instruction.

2.4 Base line, center line and reference point measured and fixed within + 3mm.

2.5 Mason's line stretched out to the line, level and distance without touching any objects and squared out the corners within

diagonal length + 3mm.

2.6 Pegs/stakes/centering pillars and hurdle /batter boards of appropriate size fixed at correct position to the line and level within +

1mm.

2.7 Dimensions, alignment and square/diagonal length of laid building or block checked using 3-4-5 method and adjusted within

overall arm length + 2mm and diagonal length + 3mm.

2.8 Centerlines, foundation width, offset, footings, wall thickness and level/grade line measured and fixed within centerline length

+ 2mm, foundation width + 2mm, offset/footing + 3mm, wall thickness + 2mm, level + 2mm, plumb + 5mm and grade line +

3mm.

2.9 Line, alignment, width and depth of excavated foundation checked and adjusted as per reference points.

Materials: Mason's string, scaffolding materials, mud/cement, stone, sand, lime, cleaning cloth and foam.

8 TASK PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

4.1. Verbal/written instruction and sketches received and explained/followed without major deviation.

4.2. Tools, equipment and materials collected as per required quantity.

4.3. Quantity of cement mortar to be consumed within half an hour and soaking of stone ensured.

4.4. Wall location for straight/corner/angular/curved laid and marked within ± 5mm.

4.5. Full bed of mortar uniformly placed and grouted not exceeding 25 mm in thickness on the wall base.

4.6. Corner/end with inner and outer corner stone set and laid on prepared wall base within ± 5mm; corner stone dressed at least

on external sides.

4.7. Each course of corner stone set, strung out and face stone, bond/through stone laid on prepared wall base within ± 5mm.

4.8. Bond, plumb, line and level checked and adjusted in each course including concreting for vertical reinforcement within ±

5mm.

4.9. Bond/through stones placed at every 60±5 cm both in vertical and horizontal alignment.

4.10. Excess mortar extruding from joints struck off and placed back onto mortar board for reuse before it starts to set.

4.11. Curing performed in concrete element and cement masonry after initial setting time for optimum period.
