    • User has Mozilla Thunderbird installed as their email client (http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/).

    • Thunderbird has RSS enabled.

    1.0. Login to the WCM Bulletin Board• Go to https://apps.weather.gov/WCMboard/

    • Login using your user name and password.

    2.0. Go to the “Smartfeed” Page• To setup your RSS details, go to the Smartfeed

    page at: https://apps.weather.gov/WCMboard/smartfeed_url.php

    2.1. Type of Newsfeed• Select “RSS 2.0” for the type of newsfeed.

    2.2. Select forums for Feed• At the bottom of the page, select the forums to

    include in your newsfeed.

    2.3. Click on the “Generate URL” But-ton• Click the “Generate URL” button.

    • This will create the URL that defines your preferences.

    2.4. Copy the URL• Copy the contents of the text box that con-

    tains the new URL.

    • This will be pasted into Thunderbird in Step 5.3 on Page 4.

    3.0. Open Thunderbird• Double click on your Thunderbird icon.

    4.0. Enabling “News & Blogs”.

    Note: Instructions for this step will be added at a later date.

    • If “News & Blogs” is already available, go to Step 5.0 on Page 3.

    5.0. Setup News & Blogs• If “News & Blogs” is not available to you, see Step 4.0 on Page 3.

    5.1. Select “News & Blogs”• Click on “News & Blogs” in the left hand pane.

    5.2. Click on “Manage Subscriptions”• The “RSS Subscription” dialog box will open.

    • Existing Blogs and RSS subscriptions will be displayed in the dia-log box.

    5.3. Click the “Add” button.• The “Feed Properties” dialog box will be displayed.

    5.4. Paste the URL.• Paste the URL from in the “Feed URL” box.

    Note: For more details on the Feed Properties Options, see Step 6.0 on Page 5.

    5.5. Click “Ok”.

    5.6. Accept Certificate

    5.7. Close RSS Subscription Box.• The subscription has been added! Close the RSS Subscription

    dialog box.

    6.0. Further Explanation: Feed Properties Option• In the “Feed Properties” dialog box, there is an option to “Show

    the article sumary instead of loading the web page”.

    • You can also edit this property after setting up the RSS Feed using the “Manage Subscriptions” process as illustrated above, starting in Step 5.2 on Page 4.

    • This option is summarized in the next two sub-steps.

    6.1. Show Article Summary• This option shows a brief summary in the Thun-

    derbird message view pane.

    the bulletin board will appear in the message pane.
