Director – ‘A music video director is a director of music videos. The director conceives of a video's artistic and dramatic aspects while instructing the musical act, technical crew, actors, models, and dancers. This may or may not be in collaboration with the musical act’

The director is someone who decides what happens with the music video and what goes in frame and decides what to shoot and how to shoot certain parts/scenes. They also decide what gets said in what scene etc and basically just manages the making and the shooting of the music video.

Camera person – ‘A camera operator or cameraman/camerawoman is a professional operator of a film or video camera. In filmmaking, the leading camera operator is usually called a cinematographer, while a camera operator in a video production may be known as a television camera operator, video camera operator, or videographer, depending on the context and technology involved, usually operating a professional video camera’

A camera person is in control of the camera, usually managed by the director. The director will give him/her a list of angles and shots to shoot from also they’ll need a good sense of visual composition, perspective and movement to get the best shots and scenes.

Boom Operator – ‘A Boom operator is an assistant of the production sound mixer. The principal responsibility of the boom operator is microphone placement, usually using a boom pole (or "fishpole") with a microphone attached to the end, his aim being to hold the microphone as close to the actors or action as possible without allowing the microphone or boom to enter the camera's frame’

A sound recording person (Boom Operator) is a very important job because all the sound is needed to produce and make the music video successful. They need to be paying attention when film to know where to move the boom pole in case they don’t catch the sound.

Lighting Technician – ‘Electrical Lighting Technicians (ELT) or simply Lighting Tech., are involved with rigging stage and location sets and controlling artificial, electric lights for art and entertainment venues (theatre or live music venues) or in video, television, or film production’

The lighting person (Lighting Technician) is someone whose role is quite important. The lighting technician is in charge of the lighting and how it works and looks on screen etc. For example if the

lighting wasn’t correct or set up properly it could make the certain scene underexposed or overexposed.

JOB ROLES REVISITED

Director

A film director is a person who directs the making of a film. Generally, a film director controls a film's artistic and dramatic aspects, and visualizes the script while guiding the technical crew and actors in the fulfillment of that vision. The director has a key role in choosing the cast members, production design, and the creative aspects of filmmaking.

Cameraman/woman

Camera operators are employed by television and cable companies, within the film industry and by video production houses. They are responsible for operating a variety of technical equipment including single and multiple portable, remote-control and electronic cameras, cranes and mobile mountings. Other responsibilities include:

assembling and setting up equipment; planning, preparing and rehearsing scenes;

following camera scripts;

creatively framing and capturing action;

responding quickly to directions;

liaising with lighting and technical staff;

problem solving.

Boom Operator

A boom operator is a member of the sound team responsible for capturing live sound during on movie or television sets. The title refers to one type of microphone held by the operator, which is called the boom mic. Working as a boom operator requires some basic training and also requires shoulder and arm strength, as the microphone must be held up for long periods of time.

Lighting Technician

Lighting technician set up and operate lighting equipment in television and in film, generally specialising in one or the other as the techniques and equipment differ. The lighting team's work is crucial as lighting creates the right atmosphere to evoke an audience's response and demands high-level technical and creative skills.
