We are proud of our school and really enjoy its family feel and focus on learning. We share our site with the Swannanoa Community Preschool. The Board of Trustees works in a close collaborative and consultative way with the principal, staff and school community to develop their strategic goals and annual plan. The Board is excited about the continued future developments at Swannanoa where the learning environment is their paramount goal. There is an active Home and School operating in the school community and a very active and supportive Fair Committee which annually runs The Swannanoa Country Fair raising funds for the school. Swannanoa’s strategic aim is to provide collaborative teaching techniques in a strong collegial environment. Swannanoa has passionate, dedicated teachers and staff who are willing to embrace change so as to benefit the learning for every child. The community support of the school is high and the parents place much value on education. There is a real culture of ‘Nurture and Challenge’ which is present when

the children enrol at Swannanoa. A typical child enrolling has strong support from their whānau and the children are goal driven and naturally ambitious and competitive. The school community recognises this and endeavours to provide opportunities for each child to enhance their natural talents and potential. Where possible the school staff leverage off this to work in partnership with the community to further develop each child’s potential. Strong systems of self-review and professional growth cycles exists. Staff work closely together to achieve the best outcomes for all learners. High levels of reflective practice help our teachers to improve. We have a strong commitment to the current exciting changes which the Puketeraki Kāhui ako brings. We have an across school teacher and two within school teachers working within our school. Swannanoa School has embraced much innovation recently and we seek a leader who will invest and contribute to the direction of our school. The school has five main values represented by our Ō tatou taonga Pikorua – Community – Whakawhanaungatanga - working side by side. Porowhita – Success – Ako - setting goals and achieving them. Koru – Kindness – Kotahitanga - being the best person you can be. Roimata - Respect – Kaitiakitanga - Respecting others, our environment and ourselves. Toki – Integrity – Tikanga - doing the right thing even when no one is looking. Every child is expected to follow these five values and can expect these five values from every staff member.
