JMJ Fr. Maynard E. Hurst Jr. Knights of Columbus Council 9016 Founded May 29, 1985 JUNE 2017 Pray For Vocations and For The Beatification of Fr. Michael J. McGivney Grand Knight Jerry Cronin Sez: As we approach the end of the 2016-2017 Columbian year and begin the transition of our parish, there is much to reflect. At the very beginning we were blessed to have received our new pastor, Father Michael, who brought new hope with his new ideas and inspiring homilies. This grand knight was blessed to have skilled and prayerful brothers and sisters who helped him survive a serious medical emergency; and, also, to have a capable and devoted group of officers to move things forward during his absence. Then came the flood, which had a devastating effect on so many of our members, and certainly impacted our planned activities for the year, while providing us with an opportunity to serve in different ways. Along the way, as is the life cycle we witnessed the transition of several brothers from temporal to eternal life. However, through it all, we continued to be blessed, directed and strengthened by our loving God, confidently looking forward to the new year. By the time this is published we will have joined in the celebration of Father Michael's tenth anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood, which was held on May 27th and will be preparing for our annual PGK banquet set for June 10th beginning after the 4:30 Mass, and the election of officers for the upcoming year.at our regular monthly business meeting. Just a reminder we have our officers and directors meeting set for June 5th at the PAC beginning at 7:00 p.m. and our regular business meeting on June 8th beginning at 6:30 with the recitation of the rosary, sharing a meal, followed by the meeting. In closing out this year, I would like to thank all my brother knights and the ladies of the auxiliary for their faithful service throughout the year, and let you know that I do recognize what a blessing you have been to me FOR THE MONH OF MAY: Knight of the Month: Clyde Martin Family of the Month: Steve & Cheryll Thomas. Please come to the June meeting to receive your deserved recognition. Ladies Auxiliary: Shirley Bonaccorso: This fraternal year is coming to an end and what a year it has been. Thanks to everyone for all they have done. It seems next year will be full of challenges, so we need to all work together to see it through. At the May business meeting, the auxiliary elected officers for 2017-2018. Reelected were: President – Shirley Bonaccorso; Vice-President – Terrie Martin; Recording Secretary – Teenie Bajon; Treasurer – Margaret Mannino; and Corresponding Secretary – Elaine Hauler. The installation of officers is being planned for later this month. More information is to come. The LLAA elected their officers for 2017-2018 at their meeting on Saturday, May 6 at the KC Convention here in Baton Rouge. Included in the slate of officers elected was Cheryll Thomas as President. Installation of the LLAA officers has not been set, but may be at St. Louis in early August. More information will be provided as soon as it is available. June begins with the monthly Rosary for Life and the Council’s family Mass on the first Sunday of the month, June 4; followed by the business meeting on June 8; and the Past Grand Knight and Awards Banquet on Saturday, June 10 after 4:30 mass. RSVP’s were due for this event by May 27. If you have any questions about the banquet, contact GK Jerry Cronin or look elsewhere in this newsletter.
