Page 2: Jim's celebration

Jim always showed incredible integrity and energy in all of his work in the ED.  He was always willing to go the extra mile.He was able to show compassion and caring to all patients, even the most abusive and difficult. His work in heading up the volunteers provided a great source of assistance to the daily running of the department. You never heard “It’s not my job” from Jim…. I don’t think that phrase was in his vocabulary.

Steve Cantrill, EM Physician

Jim was a model of grace under pressure, and an example of how critical a consistent positive attitude is to survive in the ED and in life. It was always a joy to see him when I was coming on a shift and I knew that shift was going to be that much better because Jim was there. It was an honor to work with him and learn from him.Marlow Macht, MD, MPHEMS Fellow

Jim inspired me to be charitable and generous.  He had a way of always giving, either a kind word, a smile, the way he included people of all kinds in his warmth, or just by being a good listener.  He was generous of spirit and so full of vigor and life.  He will be missed.Erin Moore SW

Jim was one of the first figures of DH/ Denver General that I met when I started.  At that moment he was an inspiration! He smiled, calmed my patient and calmed me (being a new grad). His kindness, gentleness and words of encouragement  to all walks of life is unforgettable and something for all of us to strive for. He truly was a shining star!Kelly Gettman, RN BSNDepartment of Patient Safety & Quality

I don’t think there are words to describe how much Jim impacted my life but I can say that I miss the love that he uniquely gave to everyone here in the department, patients included. Jim was just an all-around HERO to many of us. He was knowledgeable and resourceful and definitely always more than willing to lend that helping hand and loving compassionate heart. Jim was the person who would literally take the jacket off his back to hand to a homeless on those cold winter days/nights for him. Or feed the starving co-worker by lending them money for dinner when they were short on cash. Anyway I could go on and on about all the generosities that he carried in his heart and could seriously never find end. JIM DURAN we miss you brother.Brenda Guerrero, ED Clerk

Jim’s uplifting spirit and tremendously kind heart inspired everyone around him to be a better person.   His beaming smile and positive outlook made our ED a better place for patients and staff alike.  It was an honor to know Jim and to have him in our lives.  Jody Vogel EMD

I worked with Jim in the ED from 1990 – 1994 and he was the most consistently wonderful person to work with and just be around. He was always, and I mean always, so very positive with a ready, warm smile and a great work ethic.I was saddened when he retired and left Denver Health and now so much more so.You said it all -  Thank you again to an amazing friend, co-worker and human being…. You are missed by many!!!!Mary Kilfoyle, Cardiology

So grateful I had the privilege to work with such an inspirational man. Jim taught me to pay attention to the little things as a new nurse in the ED, that there was so much more to our patients than their medical complaints. He put a smile on my face each shift I worked with him, he was a rock for not only the ED, but for the entire DH family! Love you Jim, and thank you for helping me become a better nurse!Jenessa Williams, ED RN

.  I was a nurse in the ED at Denver Health (General) from late 1980 to 1984, then returned as nurse manager from 1988-1991. Jim displayed great loyalty to DG/DH.  In my early years there, I remember Jim working with an unmatched intensity and speed, especially on those crazy busy shifts, willing to maintain the frantic pace without complaint.   He was the “go-to” guy. Jim was a strong link in any team. I believe Jim felt a protectiveness of the staff. Carolee Sherer Whitehill, Former DH Employee

I was a volunteer in the ED and Jim was my first introduction to the department.  I remember Jim over all other people in the department because he loved what he was doing and loved teaching anyone about the department he loved so much.  In my life there have been a handful of people who have encouraged me to continue the struggle to become an attending at the place I volunteered in 1990.  He maintained his passion throughout the years and worked through pain and still brought a smile to work.  I miss him.Pete Pryor, EM Physician

Jim was incredible to work with. He was always on the go and could run circles around the younger staff (nurses and techs). He was a great team player and always made sure his colleagues were taken care of by making us coffee or giving out hugs (when needed). I'm honored to say I worked alongside such an exceptional person. He will be greatly missed.Jen Barrett, ED RN
