Everything I Need to Know About Life I Learned From a Jigsaw Puzzle

Don’t force a fit – if something is meant to be it will come together naturally

When things aren’t going well, take a break. Everything will look different when you return

Be sure to look at the big picture. Getting hung up on the little pieces only leads to

frustration

Perseverance pays off. Every important puzzle went together bit by bit, piece by piece

When one spot stops working move to another, but be sure to come back later

The creator of the puzzle gave you a picture as a guidebook. Refer to the Creator’s

guidebook often

Variety is the spice of life. It’s the different colours and patterns that make the puzzle

interesting

Working together with friends and family makes any task fun

Establish the border first. Boundaries give a sense of security and order

Don’t be afraid to try different combinations. Some matches are surprising

Take time to celebrate your success (even the little ones)

Anything worth doing takes time and effort. A great puzzle can’t be rushed

When you reach the last piece, don’t be sad. Rejoice in the masterpiece you’ve made and

Because of various infirmities (I am 85) I had contemplated giving up making jigsaws altogether, but on reflection I can still enjoy colourful 500 piece puzzles. I am no longer on line and it is probably missing access to so many manufacturers that I find the biggest sacrifice of giving up broadband!

We are really pleased that you have not given up completely and if you do start to struggle with the size of the pieces you could always try one of the Gibson XL versions featured in the last newsletters and consumer catalogue, as the pieces are either 2 or 4 times the size of the standard 500/1000 piece puzzles.

After World War II, the wooden jigsaw puzzle went into decline. Rising wages pushed up costs substantially because wooden puzzles took so much time to cut, so as prices rose then sales dropped. At the same time improvements in lithography and die-cutting made cardboard puzzles more attractive so their popularity started to increase.
