TURNING THE CORNER Hopefully, by the time you get this, all the snow that’s been on the ground since late December will have melted. As you might have noticed, it was necessary at one point (or at least our care-taker Eric thought so) to monogram the officers’ parking spots with red spray paint since the signs were covered by a massive pile of the white stuff. Think Spring! During the past 2 months, the social committee has been hard at work organizing the social calendar and yearbook. They are near-ly complete with this overwhelming task. It’s our plan to have it in your hands by early April. At least that is what our printer RC John says! If you haven’t received it already, you will soon have this year’s dock assignments from dock Chairman Phil Bolte. Phil worked very hard last year to accommodate our members’ needs. This included some reassignments to better utilize our marina. He has indicated that a few other changes may be necessary again this year. Although many of our members have had the same dock for years, please keep in mind that our objective is to place a boat in a dock that best suits the size that is needed. As we move on through the month, you will notice an increase in the pace of activity in preparation of the upcoming season. We have some outside projects to finish from last fall and a few new ones to get started on for this season. Some of these changes will involve electrical work around the lagoon docks. If you have some expertise in this area and can offer a few volunteer hours, please see Rear Commodore John and work out the details. Although our Jibsheet is mostly to keep our membership abreast of the good things and happenings around the club, it is some-times necessary to report a few problems. Over the past sever-al months, it has been reported that items are missing from the kitchen. The latest things that are missing are some large cook-ing pots. We have had them for many years and would like them back. If you or someone you know borrowed them and haven’t yet returned them, please do so immediately. If there is anything else someone has borrowed which belongs to the club, please re-turn it. We have tried to have an open door policy for the kitchen, but that could change. If you want to borrow something, please let House Manager PC Chuck Reichman know what you need, and he will work with you. March offers something every Friday night. With the Men’s Stag and March Madness snacks, there is much to enjoy. So turn the corner, come over the bridge, and spend some time with your friends.

As we look forward to the upcoming boating season hope-fully you are all making a list of the things you will need to be doing to get your boat ready to launch. Unless your boat is stored inside it is still nasty outside to begin working to make your vessel shine. However, a checklist when the weather does break is a very good idea. Our 2011 Cruise-Out schedule has been approved by our Board and this year we will also have another “Hands On Boating For Women” event. As I mentioned in January’s article we tried to keep our destinations relatively close to PCYC due to the instability of the price of fuel. The dates and locations are as follows:

We are planning on having boating fun filled and safe Cruise-Outs this year and sincerely hope several of our mem-bers can participate in them. The Cruise-Out Registry book will be at the bar very soon.

Activity at PCYC is picking up steam as we head toward Spring and the boating season. The Board approved the purchase and installation of 10 new electrical panels to go around the lagoon area. We also have 10 new pedestals to be installed along the North Shore. Eric tells me that before the installation of these new pedestals, there will have to be some extensive wiring work to bring the electricity to the pedestals. I certainly hope everybody is enjoying our new popcorn ma-chine in the bar! I think the popcorn tastes better, but that is just one of 489 votes. We also purchased and installed new side canvas for the barbecue pit. That was installed just in time to cover the pit for the February BYOS. Also, if you are at the Yacht Club, check out the newly refaced cupboards and drawers in the kitchen. My thanks to Gil Root for that project. We want to move forward with completion of the ceiling tile project in the hall-ways from the ballroom and past the restrooms toward the kids’ room. Again, hopefully we can have that completed by Spring also. Once again, thanks to member Dave Obergefell for his help in acquiring some very nice tiles for the ballroom and hallway. Sometime this month we will be spraying the maple trees on the grounds for cottony maple scale eradication. That helps keep all that sticky stuff from landing on the boats. Back to the bar! We also managed to recover the armrests in the bar, and that re-ally came out nice. We would like to either paint or re-wallpaper the north side of the bar and the atrium over the bar. We have spoken with member Rich Vance regarding the painting of a large PCYC Burgee on that wall above the Western Lake Erie chart. What do you think. That’s enough for now. Roller Furling credits. Changes to our racing fleets roller furl-ing credits per Phrfle. Sailors with Dacron sails and protective sun cover will get a 10 second credit (Sally Joe, Luigi Ann, Tri-dent and Courage). Those of us that have Pentax (spectra fibers sandwiched between plastic) receive a 5 second credit (Coqui). Roller furlers with Kevlar sails receive a 5 second credit (Thin Ice). Roller furler boats may carry 2 sails, a 155% and an ad-ditional sail that is less than 120%. The boat must commit to the 155% prior to the racing season and stick with it (no switching to a light #1). Junior Sailing Perch Fundraiser: March 25th, 5:30pm-7:30pm will be our annual Perch dinner fundraiser. Along with the Perch Platters, Perch Sandwiches and French Fries, we will once again be spoiled with the now famous Bergman Lobster Bisque.
