"So that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me." Does technology bring us together, or does it remind us of distance and differences and keep us apart? Most days, I'm not so sure. With the constant inundation of news from across the world, it can be easier to tune out the sufferings and the joys of people we'll never meet, in places we'll never visit. But is this the invitation of Jesus? Over the centuries, our Church has become truly universal across the globe. There are Christians across nations and cultures, across lines of rich and poor. There are Christians who live behind white picket fences, and Christians dying in conflict zones. "That they may all be one," Jesus prays. One in what? Love. "That the love with which you loved me may be in them." This is easier said than done, of course. The world is far too vast for us to individually love every human being. I can hardly remember the names of half the regulars at my Sunday Mass! But that doesn't mean we can't try. "I pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe in me through their word." Jesus had this religious popular explosion in mind. The mission and message of Christ was not meant to stop in the Apostle's generation or stay cordoned off in the geographic confines of Israel. Jesus' words at the Last Supper are a prayer, a plea to the Father for the spread and unity of the Church across time and space. This week, look up organizations supporting the persecuted Church and make a donation. Next week, visit a struggling parish within your own diocese. When you meet someone new at hospitality Sunday, invite them over for dinner to get to know them better. Whether far off or close to home, let's allow Jesus' prayer to live in us, to be drawn together in love.

St. Nicholas News & Events

June 2, 2019 7th Sunday of Easter

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5, 6 - 7:30PM Students in 6–8 Grades are invited to gather for fun, games, snacks, and prayer. We will gather in the old school building on the St. Nicholas campus. Students of all faiths are welcome!

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP

RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS We were created for community. Human beings are not meant to be alone. As each of us grows in our relationship with Jesus, we find ourselves drawn further into community. Our stewardship never reflects just on us, but on the Body of Christ to which we belong. When speaking to his Father, Jesus always spoke about all of us as a whole. Jesus has a unique relationship with each and every one of us, but he also sees us collectively as one. When the Holy Spirit was sent to assist us until the Second Coming, he ascended upon a multitude, not just one person at a time. We are called to live a fruitful stewardship way of life. It is by that fruit that we can tell if we are really giving of ourselves in a generous manner. However, the fruits that result from my stewardship and your stewardship will never amount to more than what we can produce together. As you try ever harder to cultivate what God has given you and offer it back to Him with an increase, what does your relationship with your parish community look like? How has your stewardship helped enable your community to become a clearer reflection of God? It is important to reflect on these things because we can sometimes find ourselves drifting away from community if we are not careful. We are always stronger together. We never want to wake up one day and find ourselves alone.

LNMV Catholic Education Center Capital Campaign In-Church Invitation

Many thanks to those who have returned their commitment to help us try to raise $725,000 to retire our LNMV building debt and maintain our education facility.

This weekend we wrap up the In-Pew phase of our campaign with the commitment packets available in the pews.

It is vitally important that we have a planned and proportionate commitment from all registered households, and we need your help to achieve two very important goals of our campaign.

The first goal is to invite the full participation of all parishioners. The second goal is to generate financial commitments to reach our campaign goal.

If you have not returned your commitment, please take a packet home and respond based on your blessings and capacity. Return the commitment card in the sealed envelope by mail, deliver it to the parish office, or place it in the collection basket next weekend.

Soon we will begin our follow up efforts to contact and invite those parishioners that have not responded. Please save us the time, energy and expense of contacting you by returning your commitment. Thank you for your cooperation!

LIVE THE LITURGY INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK How do we find our way through life and discover who we really are? It is easy to get distracted by life's preoccupations and worldly constructs. We can avoid dealing with deeper questions simply by being absorbed in life's demands and the roles we are asked to play. Is it important to us that we come from God and have our identity in Him? The world cannot succeed in telling us who we are. Only God can. Only through Jesus's resurrection can we see clearly that he is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, and the bright morning star. It is by following his example that we can all become one with the Father and brought to perfection. We are designed to be one with God and united with one another as believers in Jesus Christ. When someone experiences our speech and actions, do they witness the fact that we truly believe this?

IT’S TIME TO CONSIDER HOLY CROSS AND HERE’S WHY “My daughter came home from school with her Math test and her teacher had written a note complimenting on her progression and added to the note ‘You glorify God by using the gifts He has given you’. You don’t get that anywhere else except here in this setting and I can’t tell you as a parent how much I appreciate those little scripts that say God is with you in everything you do. That is why we send our children to Holy Cross.” - S. Benolkin, Parent
