DAY 1- LESSON PRESENTATION Present lesson. Print activity page and help your child color the picture as you retell the story. Conclude each activity with your testimony. PHRASE/WORD RECOGNITION (REPEAT DAILY) Young children – “love” and sign language sign for love, Older children – “I’m trying to be like Jesus.” Or “Jesus Christ showed us how to love others.” DAY 2 - ART ACTIVITY Another fun frame for the activity page using the illustration found in the lesson manual. For the frame, have your child do something wild with tempra paints. Consider investing in Do-A-Dot Art, available at most school supply stores, which are plastic bottles filled with liquid watercolor. A sponge applicator attached to the mouth of the bottle is similar to bingo bottles using for dotting the color on bingo cards. To make a stamp of your own, wash a potato and cut it in half. On the cut face of the potato, use a knife to carve a simple shape (e.g a star). You may also use a cookie cutter instead of a knife. Cut away the potato surrounding the shape, so that the shape protrudes about 1/2 inch. Your stamp is done and ready to “ink” in paint. You may choose to use a different applicator to apply the watercolor/tempra to the frame. You may choose to use something found in nature such as cattails, a fern or pine branches with needles attached. You may choose to use small sponges clipped to a clothespin. You may choose to use broom bristles or small inflated balloons. Your creativity is only limited by the mess you are willing to endure. Glue the activity page on top of your colorful frame. DAY 3 – SCRIPTURE MARKING Help your child draw a heart around the words “Love one another.”, John 15:12. OR Circle pictures in New Testament Stories, “Chapter 16: The Sermon on the Mount,” 48. Have your child put a sticker on the page he has marked to help him locate the page more easily DAY 4 - FINGER PLAY Jesus said love everyone (spread arms out wide) Treat them kindly too.
