TRANSCRIPT
Today’s theme:
The greatest threat to humanity is not poverty or ignorance; it is sin and evil. Once sin enters a life, there is no limit to the destruction and sorrow it will cause, and on our own, we are powerless to stop it. Only Jesus can resolve sin and evil; that’s why everyone needs Jesus!
“Jesus and Demons - Mark 5:1-20” Karl Jones

Intro: It is not uncommon for people to joke about Satan, but there is nothing funny about evil and what evil does! It is not uncommon for people to deny or dismiss the existence of the devil, but there can be no denying the horrible effects of evil in this world! And it is not uncommon for people to worship Satan and embrace the occult; no wonder our world is in such a mess!
Demon possession in the first century was real. The New Testament describes it as being real, and only Jesus could cast out demons with a single word or command! One such encounter between Jesus and a demon possessed man is found in Mark 5:1-20.
When Jesus commanded, the only thing the demons could do was obey! And today, the only real solution for evil and the power of evil is Jesus!
What do we learn from this encounter between Jesus and the man of Gadarea?
I. The Power of Evil is Real and Really Powerful.
1. The demon exerted great power, but it was a _______________________________ _________________. Nothing good
came from his power and strength; he only terrorized and tormented!
2. When we allow evil and sin into our lives _____________________ ______________ will come, but the power to ruin and
destroy will be unleashed in our lives!
A.) Marriages that have the potential for _________________________ ____________ are ruined and destroyed
by sin. Sin _______________ made any marriage happier or stronger!
B.) When sin and evil get into our hearts, we are _______________________ to get it out all by ourselves. Only
Jesus has the power to cleanse a _______________ and restore _______________.
3. Ultimately, sin and evil have no more ______________ over you than what ____________ _______________!
4. As the demons were cast out of the man of Gadarea, we see one last act of _____________________________ as the
herd of swine were drowned. Why would Jesus allow the destruction of the herd of swine? It is a powerful reminder
that:
A.) Sin and evil __________________ _______________ us far more than we want to pay!
B.) Sin and evil will never bring ____________ and _______________________, but it will bring loss!
C.) How powerful is sin and evil? Enough to rob and destroy _________________________ ______________ in
your life!
II. The Different Reactions.
1. The local people were _________________ (vs 15) and begged Jesus to leave.
2. The demonic man (vs. 18) begged Jesus to allow Him to __________ ____________ __________________.
3. As others heard about this healing (vs 20), _______________________ ________________________!
4. Three responses – which is yours?
A.) Do you ________________ bowing before Jesus? Not sure you want Him in your life?
B.) Do you _____________________ Jesus and no longer want to be without Him?
C.) Do you __________________ in _______________________ at the wonder of Jesus?
III. The Mission Of The Church – Go and Tell!
1. Why do we ________________ talking about Jesus and His Church?
2. The best way to begin talking about Jesus is to start by telling how God has ___________________ ____________ and
done great things in your life!
