• Helped establish a partnership with the NC State’s STEM Early College High School (ECHS) to foster relationships between the ECHS and units at NC State (e.g. College of Education, College of Design) and works in conjunction with another CICE faculty member to foster that partnership, 2012- 2014.

• As a part of the ADVANCE grant, I helped to organize and implement summits during summers 2007

and 2011 in Raleigh, NC and in Pasadena, CA at the California Institute of Technology (summer 2009) for women faculty of color in engineering. The summits focused on the professional development and experiences of women faculty of color in engineering, and drew faculty attendees from colleges of engineering across the nation. One of the goals of the ADVANCE grant was to determine through data gathered at the summits, the best practices for the recruitment, retention mentoring and promotion for women of color in engineering academia.

• Helped to organize and participate in the Nurturing Mathematics Dreamkeepers’ (NMD) mini-

conference that was held in 2005, 2006, and 2007. This free mini-conference featured sessions on K-2 mathematics and was attended each year by K-2 professionals from across the state. Through the NMD K-2 mathematics conferences, ways of incorporating culture in the teaching of K-2 mathematics were demonstrated, and accompanying teaching resources for K-2 teachers throughout the state were provided.

• Worked in conjunction with the Triangle Urban League and triangle high schools to develop and

execute an evaluation of the implementation process of the National Achievers Society (NAS). The NAS program was designed to promote academic achievement and combat the perception that academic achievement is negative. My $7,000 NC State extension and engagement mini-grant supported this work, 2005-2006.

• Worked with the Triangle Urban League Young Professionals and served as a volunteer organizing

financial empowerment and civic involvement activities; I was a speaker for financial empowerment; and hosted a NC State visitation day in coordination with the local NAS chapters which provided an opportunity for parents and students to learn about the myriad of topics, issues, and opportunities available to them in higher education environments, 2005-2006.
