Jessica Kahal is a highly skilled swimmer, who while studying in Palos Verdes Peninsula High School took part in many competitions. Ms. Juliano coached her from 1999 to 2003, when she was a team member of Girl's Frosh/Soph and Varsity Swimming. From 2000 to 2003, she was a very important swimmer for Girl's Frosh Soph and Varsity Water Polo. In addition to this, she was a member of Club Swim Team (San Pedro Peninsula YMCA Swim Team) and used to learn the right techniques of swimming from Dan Halladay.

In the year 2002, Jessica participated in CIF State Swimming and Diving Championships in Long Beach, including a part of 4x50 Freestyle Relay as well as 4x50 Medley Relay. She says that if novice swimmers want to increase their ability to sight in triathlon or an open water race, they should practice sighting in a pool. They can throw in some sightings at the time of swimming across the pool in every 4th lap. Jessica Kahal advises swimmers to look up 2 or 3 times and try to keep a constant position by not dropping their legs and hips.

She further added that, if swimmers want feedback on their technique, they can ask their lane mates or coach to evaluate swimmers' sighting technique and to give them some constructive criticism. It is very important to regularly enhance this part of their swimming technique. She says that the hands of swimmers enter the water, their fingertips should instantly start pointing straight down. Jessica Kahal suggests swimmers to concentrate on pulling straight back as they take a breath or roll their shoulder. It is essential that the hands should not cross over their center line at any point while performing their stroke.
