Jeskyns, a space to discover

The Forest of the FutureA special block of trees planted here demonstrate what woodlands may look like in the future with the onset of climate change.

New WoodlandsOver 130,000 trees and shrubs have been planted to create the new Jeskyns Woods.

ArchaeologyVarious archaeological studies on site have revealed glimpses of how the land at Jeskyns has been used for the past 4000 years.

Orchards850 different traditional varieties of apple, pear, plum, cherry and nut make up the newly planted Jeskyns Orchard.

Land RestorationIn 2005 two large chalk pits were cleared of over 145 tonnes of dumped rubbish and the land restored.

Bird FeedingJeskyns Grove is planted with a spring barley crop providing much needed winter food for many birds including corn buntings and skylarks.

Thames GatewayJeskyns sits alongside the largest regeneration project in Europe - The Thames Gateway, which aims to improve the quality of life for all local communities.

Wider AreasThe Forestry Commission works in partnership with 4 neighbouring sites providing access to almost 700 hectares of countryside via the Darnley Trail.

MeadowsOver 30 different species of flowers and grasses grow within the meadows providing great habitat for birds and insects.

Henhurst LakeA good spot for some pond dipping, bird watching or perhaps a doggy paddle!

Natural RegenerationNeighbouring ancient woodland provides a wonderful backdrop and is encouraged to encroach into Jeskyns by a process called “natural regeneration”.
