Thank you for being partners in our
work BEYOND
BEYOND HEAVEN ……Across the Street
Across the World
Philippians 2:5-8 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!
BEYOND HEAVEN
Jesus Emptied Himself (made Himself nothing vs 7)• 100% God, yet he emptied Himself of all of the
rights of His heavenly deity.• Jesus was EVERYTHING but became NOTHING• John 1:14 The word became flesh and dwelt among
us. • Incarnation• Are you willing to become “nothing”
or empty yourself?
BEYOND HEAVEN
The Reward
Jesus submitted Himself (became a servant vs 7)• Jesus was in full nature God, but took on the
very nature of a servant• Matt. 20:28 • Eph. 6:7 • Service is worship – serving others for
the King is worship to the King.• Service also implies WORK as in Eden• That is our mission field [Work as Worship]
BEYOND HEAVEN
Jesus humanized Himself (in human likeness vs 7)• Humanness is not evil. It made Jesus touchable and
tangible. • Jesus spoke their language, spent time with the “unchurched”.• Jesus felt their pain. Understood what it was to live a human
existence. • Do we identify with the “unchurched” in this way?• Do we spend time with the “unchurched”
intentionally to be a light & bring Jesus to them?
BEYOND HEAVEN
Jesus humbled Himself (humbled himself vs 8)• Born in a manger – Step into dirty places• Being willing to admit our failures / our weaknesses• Hebrews 2:18 Because he himself suffered when he
was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted
BEYOND HEAVEN
Jesus died to Himself (became obedient to death vs 8)• Mark 8:34-35 whoever loses his life for me and for the
gospel will save it. • There may be some things that we need to allow to die• Are you willing to let some things die in your life• Ambitions, hopes, dreams, privileges, comforts, time,
prestige, • To gain something far greater in return
• We are all called to be Martyrs for Jesus (Acts 1:8)• Missionary Martyrs• Financial Martyrs• Prayer Martyrs• Martyrs with our time, comforts, ……..
