The ‘Rules’ themselves were fine but I had to change the covering paperwork half a dozen times before it got through. Rewiring the GT’s dashboard was simple by comparison. I will put a copy of the new document on the new club website as soon as it’s up and running but if in the meantime you are having trouble falling asleep at night let me know and I’ll email or post a copy to you. As with a lot of Government agencies, processes are now online which meant we now have an account with Consumer Affairs via which we have to lodge the annual return, which Andrew and I have the details for.

    We the people Are inundated with paperwork…. but we finally have a new club constitution (now known as the ‘Rules’).

    The WA State Parliament made a new Associations Incorporation Act which commenced on 1 July 2016. Clubs and not for profit bodies were required to ensure their ‘rules’ comply with the legislation, as well as introducing a number of changes regarding:

    • financial reporting; • governance; • privacy; • the rules; • becoming incorporated; and • membership of incorporated associations.

    Given the scale of changes needed at the 2018 AGM we decided it was easier to simply make a new set. The ‘Rules’ themselves are quite straightforward and it’s business as usual insofar as we are all concerned. They are the same as a model developed by the Department with a couple of minor changes to suit us.

    I like to think I am reasonably good at dealing with Govt Depts but just lodging this was a task in itself.

    Record turnout at cars and coffee UWA 31 December 2019

    I have never seen so many people at this event. It was packed with people and cars, overflowed into the next car park, with all enjoying a morning out.

    It’s popular I think as it takes up just a couple of hours, the University is a nice setting, proceeds go to charity and you can come and go as you please.

    For more about this event see https://www.classiccarsandcoffee.com/.

    We had planned to have a small Christmas celebration which came to nought. The original venue in the adjoining Kings Park wouldn’t take bookings on a Sunday and the UWA café was closed, so by mutual agreement on the day we decided to give it a miss.

    That aside, at the conclusion of things Mark Dickinson was looking a little thin so those of us who were left and still had some cash took pity on him and wandered over to Matilda Bay for life saving coffee and carrot cake.

    We had a record turnout for recent years of seven Jensens, and as things were drawing to a close we managed to get five of them together.

    Friends in high places The Council of Motoring Clubs (CMC) the peak motoring body representing car clubs in WA and does a great job on behalf of all of us.

    You might recall it recently put out a call for help to fill some a couple of board vacancies.

    JMA WA member Warren Pearse was good enough to put his hand up for membership secretary and after a tough campaign was elected unopposed.

    We depend on volunteers to make things happen – thanks Warren.

    Events As always there’s a lot going on.

    If you are going to an event, let the rest of us know - it’s surprising how many others might then decide to also pitch up or see you there. And if you do go, take some pictures and share them with us.

    Some events require registration direct with them, and others we need to book as a group so have a read through the guff below and make a plan.

    Visit to King Brewery

    Wayne and Pam Cooper sent the attached photos of a trip they took down south to King Brewery (https://goo.gl/maps/MyFrra9xPs2dx8399) recently.

    ‘Hi guys, took advantage of parking alongside ‘other’ classics at King road brewery on Sunday. Freeway south, left off Mundijong road, left into King road. One of our perfect spots for good food/craft beer/playground for the kids. - heaps of

    parking for a get together he he🍺🚗🍔😎’

    Northam Swap Meet

    Niel Walker went to the Northam Swap meet on Sunday 16 Feb:

    I was the only Jensen on display at the Northam swap meet yesterday morning - it’s a great morning and nice and cool early with a meet and greet at the Bakers Hill pie shop on home trip about 11.00!

    CMC Classic Car Show – Ascot Racecourse, Sunday 8 March

    This one is a big fundraiser for the CMC. So far we have only one definite, two maybes and two no’s.

    As it's an all day event and you must be there from 9am to 3pm. This is a significant fundraiser for the CMC who do a lot for us and should be supported if possible. It's also a great opportunity to catch up with old friends. So - let me know if you can get there or not and I'll let the CMC know how many acres they need to allocate us, send you more information, passes etc. RSVP by 25 Feb please to Chris at [email protected] or 0434 827 945. As you know, even a 'Sorry, I'll be on expedition to Antarctica' is greatly appreciated.

    If there’s enough interest we can go as a group – it will probably be an overnight stay for most. You can register your interest by email to Chris or Andrew, or online at https://form.jotform.com/193429479286879

    Peel Zoo – any takers?

    Andrew Partington reports that the Peel Zoo is well worth a trip - a wonderful small, WA zoo that’s not too far away on the Pinjarra road and has the Redcliffe on the Murry pub/restaurant just next door (https://g.page/peelzoo?share).

    Expressions of interest to Andrew P please.

    Jensen Car Club of Australia You will recall late last year we had a chat about closer ties to the Jensen Car Club of Australia (JCCA). The mob sent the committee to check out the idea and report back.

    The JCCA website is here https://www.jensencarclub.org.au/. As a member of the JCCA you get:

    • Participation in club events and the annual National Rally; • Quarterly magazine, ‘The Interceptor’ (see link to a sample below); • Concessional registration (in some States) • Enjoy meeting like minded enthusiasts; • Share in Jensen technical and supplier knowledge

    • Facebook (closed group) • Regalia

    As with all these things there are some pluses and minuses:

    • Yet another club to join? • We have always been a small club (at best around 30 members in the past 15

    years or so); • We need a WA incorporated body that complies with Department of Transport

    requirements to allow members to register cars under concessional licensing rules;

    • WA is so far away from other parts of Australia we may as well be in another country – but so are all States and territories;

    • We have struggled to fill posts in the past, and this could be an excellent way of ensuring a Jensen presence in WA;

    • Become part of a bigger group; and • No need to maintain a separate website?

    The JCCA membership year begins on 1 January and expires on 31 December each year. A new membership is currently $110 pa, comprised of a joining fee of $30 and annual membership of $80. Immediate family members are automatically included as club members, and jJunior membership is open to persons aged under 16 years who join in their own right (membership fees waived). Naomi Gruzevskis, President of the JCCA has offered no joining fee and half price membership (so would be $40 instead of $80) between now and the end of 2020, and no joining fee and half price membership for under 35 years old (none of you lot will qualify!) The JCCA publish a quarterly newsletter (‘The Interceptor’). The Summer 2019 edition is here - http://tiny.cc/iqkzhz It would be good to have closer formal ties. My thought was that perhaps we could look at some sort of package whereby becoming a member of the JMA WA we could somehow build in membership to the JCCA and vice versa for anyone who is a JCCA member, in WA.

    Some people don’t like being in clubs, which is fair enough. If you own a Jensen you are already up for a bit of $ so it’s not a huge outlay. If you have a car on a concessional registration you will save around $700 pa so you are more than making up for the membership fee.

    We have a pretty healthy bank balance and dropped membership to $20pa. Our costs are minimal and are (basically) the website, some equipment (a gazebo), an annual registration fee as an incorporated association and a few other bits and pieces like bank fees.

    So – let’s have a chat. We’ll make a decision at the next committee meeting (date and venue TBA) but in the meantime get your two bucks worth in to Chris.

    If there’s no interest we’ll put this one to bed and move on!

    New website Almost done. Here’s a beta version, still need to do some fine tuning and editorial, add the correct logos etc.

    Final URL to be sorted as well but here ‘tis as at present:
