Transitional Pastor Nominating Committee Update
Our Transitional Pastor Nominating Committee has reviewed the Pastor Infor-
mation Forms that our church was matched with from our Presbytery. There
are eight individuals that partially matched, plus three self-referrals. Our job
was to review these candidates according to the criteria we originally stipulated
in our Ministry Information Form for our church. Our committee has held a
video conference interview with our top choice, and then did a face-to-face
interview. We ask for your prayers in this continuing process. Please be aware
the individual we seek must be an ordained minister with preaching and interim
minister training experience. We cannot give out names or current congrega-
tions the candidates may be serving. Fellow members of our committee are
Charlie Neal, Jerry Collins, Jill O’Daniel and Kathy Bixler. Feel free to ask us at
any time concerning our progress.
Peace and grace
Roger Emily

Coffee & Lemonade Coffee and Lemonade are available in the atrium after worship, and we always need more helpers to get
things set up. If you’d be willing to host a Sunday, please call Sharon Rudd at 812-283-7833 or Alecia
Simonis at 812-987-6711 to sign up.
Youth Update It has been an extremely fruitful year for First Prez Youth!
This year, the youth have travelled on a prayer tour, praying for their schools and the people who go
there. They have shined their bright lights on bowling nights, hang-outs at church, and casual meals of pizza
or Puerto Vallarta. They travelled to Conner Prairie this past fall and bravely participated in an intense, im-
mersive event called “Follow the North Star”, where they got to witness firsthand the cruel mistreatment
of our brothers and sisters who were sold into slavery. They have asked profound and stirring questions in
their Sunday school classroom, and have collaborated with me to bring an original Christmas program to
life: “The Eye Witness Accounts of the First Christmas”. The Youth were recently seen in the 2018 youth
worship service that we titled “Out of Many, We are One.”
In Sunday school we began the year by learning how to pray. We learned that the best way to do this is
to pray; not follow an instruction manual! We proceeded to talk about who God is, why we should follow
Him, and are beginning a new unit centered around the question: “Is God mad at me if my life isn’t com-
pletely dedicated to Him?” This is no “bless your heart” Sunday school class! We are asking questions that
have puzzled biblical scholars for centuries, and diving into the Word to find them.
Jesus made a way that we might care for these incredible kids and point them back to Him. As a church
we should always ask about what the church needs and how to do it. The church needs the youth. The
youth are the future of our church and will pave the way for generations to come. We will continue to
search for ways we can challenge ourselves, grow, and make a difference.
God loves His children. Matthew 18 says that whoever welcomes a child,
welcomes the Lord.
Blessings,
Sarah Inman

Thank you for surrounding my family with your love and prayers through the last 2 1/2 months. Ray
was a caring and faithful Christian. He was ready to be with the Lord from the beginning of the ordeal. He
was happy as members visited, sent cards, or texted. I feel that you wrapped your arms around us to give
us strength.
When Ray went to be with the Lord, your love poured out even more. It was so comforting to know
that you were there for all our family. From Courtney to members calls and texts, bringing food, the ladies
who prepared lunch following the funeral service, and Brian & Andrew Herald's music made it truly a cele-
bration of Ray's life and how he affected others. The words cannot express my thanks, love, and comfort
for this church family.
May God grant you many blessings,
Pat, Larry, Carrie, Justin, Owen, Evan, Debbie (Ray's sister) & Tom Porta, Beverly Breast (Ray's sister)

From the Student Pastor As much as I can’t believe it, my final semester of seminary has begun (assuming I pass all my classes!)
This means a change in my office hours for the spring term in order to work around my class schedule.
Going forward, I’ll generally be in the office on Monday mornings and Wednesday afternoons.
Also, as I look forward to graduation, I’m preparing for the next stage in my call process. A few weeks
ago, I passed my final assessment, in which the Committee for the Preparation for Ministry (CPM) deter-
mined I could be certified ready for a call. In our Presbyterian system, this means I can begin searching for a
call placement. Though there are many types of placements (chaplaincy, agencies, etc), I feel called to con-
gregational ministry as a Minister of the Word and Sacrament.
So, what does this mean for right now and for our live together here at 222 Walnut St.? First, let me
say what it does not mean. It does not mean that I’m ordained. Presbyterian pastors are ordained into
calls - meaning I have to be installed as a pastor (or other ordain-able position) before I can be ordained. It
also does not mean that I’ll be leaving First Prez (at least not until my term is done in May, when I gradu-
ate). I am still very much looking forward to worshiping with you and serving at First Prez over the next
few months. What being “certified ready” does mean is that I can begin to search for a call and to discern
and plan for the next phase of my ministry. But, I want you all to know what an integral part you have been
and still are to that ministry and I feel very blessed to be here at First Prez as your Student Pastor.
The peace of Christ be with you,
Courtney
