The AGM went quickly with representation from Chrysler SA
to announce the partnership between Jeep Club SA, Chrysler
SA and Jeep Owners Group International.
With formalities over on time and the drivers briefing done by
Dominik, all departed to their vehicles and split up in their
groups to drive the various routes on the farm.
I led a group of 18 vehicles into the obstacle
section where all had fun staying within the
banners and poles allowing all a chance to
drive the section in both directions with lots of
great photo opportunities for all the spectators.
As we departed Alan’s group which had just
completed the river crossing lined up to enter
the obstacles. The river crossing was created
for the Wranglers and raised Jeeps giving the opportunity to gross a 20 meter river section with rocks
hidden below.
We headed up to the main route which would take us
through mud and a steep rock face with a sharp 90
degree right turn and then straight up. All successfully
drove up and the energy levels had raised a notch or
two.
A little further on, we came to a second loose stone
climb which all the Jeeps managed without a glitch.
We arrived back at the main gate turned right
and headed up into the mountain to tackle some
articulation obstacles.
The sun by now had broken through the clouds
and lotion and refreshments were a must.
We were soon in the dongas playing in the mud
and low lying water. The group followed each
other in an orderly line until we were all safely
back at the Lapa.

Lunch was served – Roast Lamb, Chicken and
salads. The adults all ate a plenty while the
children went a mock on the large Jumping
castle laid out for them.
After lunch the members slowly departed after
another successful Jeep outing.
A big thank you goes to organisers and
Committee members who made the day such a
great and memorable event.
WESTERN CAPE : OU TREKPAD – 18 JANUARY 2015
Jeep Club Western Cape
Annual General Meeting and
outing to Ou Trekpad 4x4 18
January 2015.
The club gets together to start
off the New Year with its
AGM, managed by Neil Muller
the Deputy President for the
Region. With all the important
admin approved and the
imparting of all the latest news
to the members attending,
2015 by all accounts is going to
be an amazing year for the Jeep
Club in all the regions.
Oops! I did forget to mention that
the Western Cape AGM took place
at Ou Trekpad 4x4 and was a great
event.
After being split into groups,
drivers loaded their vehicles and hit
the trail. Ou Trekpad is always a
great place to test skills and have
some fun at the same time.

Apart from a spectacular
tyre de-bead courtesy of Ian
Newton, and one or two
small issues on the
playground’s axle twisters,
the day went by without
issues. A very hungry and
dare I say, thirsty bunch
returned to the Lapa for a
communal braai and social
in the best South African
off-roader tradition, Lekker!
“It must be said that Jeep Club get
togethers have a great ambience and
this year’s AGM was no exception.”
KWA-ZULU NATAL : LAKE ELAND, ORIBI GORGE – 18 JANUARY

NEWSLETTER – JANUARY 2015

Lake Eland in the Oribi Gorge area of the South Coast was our choice of venue for our AGM.
Lake Eland is a game reserve that offers great accommodation and conference facilities. A few members
made a weekend of it and booked in from Friday night.
Saturday night we enjoyed the company of our fellow members who joined us staying over at Lake Eland
for a magical South Coast evening around the fire.
Sunday morning we gathered at the
conference venue to kick off the year with
our AGM.
At the AGM we said farewell to Johan who
stepped down as Deputy President after a
successful reign the last few years.
We would like to thank him for his
leadership the last few years, we have not
lost him completely as he was willing to
stay on as part of the Committee for the
year ahead.

Once the formalities got out
the way we headed out for
the trail.
The trail was an easy but
scenic route heading through
the hills at the 4x4 track and
back to the reserve.
Upon arrival back at the conference centre we were
welcomed by the delicious smell of a lamb turning
gracefully on a spit.
Late afternoon we said our farewells to old and new
members after another successful outing.

ATLANTIS DUNES – 31 JANUARY 2015 – WESTERN CAPE
Saturday morning sun brightly shining as 28 Jeeps
arrived at gate 1 at the entrance to Atlantis Dunes. We all quickly deflated tyres and followed the ready
laid out flags into the dunes arriving at base camp.
Once all were in and accounted for Neil Muller
welcomed the new members and carried out the
drivers briefing. New members who had never driven
the dunes before were put in my group with Neil
running in the rear.

Ian and Marius took a group of Old Masters at
the dunes in a group and Mark took another
group of Jeep owners and off we all went with
the understanding we would all meet back at
12.30 for a light lunch snack.
The first couple of minutes was spent allowing
the drivers to feel the sand under the wheels and
ensuring they all had chosen the correct gear
etc. As we chose various obstacles you could
see the confidence growing in each of the
drivers.
We practiced driving down the dune maintaining the
correct direction and momentum without over speeding.
Into Landrover corner we went, where all had a chance
to play and experience the softness of the sand.
The time quickly flew past as we tackled obstacle after
obstacle with each members confidence growing as they
quickly determined how much momentum was required
to drive the respective obstacles.
Back at base camp we all had our lunch snacks
and caught up on the days events. Another
successful event and a big thank you to Neil
Muller and his assistants for organising the
event. Till the next time.
