    JURIS DOCTOR (JD) SCHOLARSHIP POLICY

    Scholarships in the JD Program are highly competitive study grants that may cover up to 100%of tuition fees.

    Who qualifies?

    1. Those who have obtained a general weighted average (GWA) in their undergraduate course of at least 85% or its equivalent;

    2. Those whose percentile rank in the Law School Qualifying Test (LSQT) is at least 85;

    3. Financial need, as attested by the familys finances; and

    4. Positive interview evaluation.

    Academic Merit Scholarship

    Under exceptional circumstances, such as sterling academic distinctions and outstanding leadership credentials, among others, as determined by the SLG Scholarship Committee, academic merit scholarship may be granted. An applicant for academic merit scholarship must submit the original transcript of academic records and original certification/s from the University Registrar and/or University Official of the applicants academic and leadership credentials. The applicant may submit other supporting documents as he/she may deem relevant and helpful. Under the academic merit scholarship, documents relating to the financial position of the applicants family may be waived. The rest of the terms and conditions enumerated hereunder, however, will be applicable.

    Grant

    The grant depends on the scholarship slots available and the number of qualified applicants. The scholarship grant may continue up to the 4th year of the JD Program. To keep

    the scholarship, the grantee must:

    1. Maintain a cumulative GWA no lower than 82, evaluated at the end of each school year;

    2. Maintain a grade of at least 80% in each enrolled academic subject; 3. Maintain a continuous regular full load for each semester prescribed by the JD Program; 4. Hold a clean disciplinary record;

    5. Not avail of a scholarship from any other source; 6. Comply with all other requirements set forth in the Scholarship Agreement; 7. Must not have made a misrepresentation or false declaration in the

    Scholarship Application Form or any of the required documents; and 8. The grantees financial position has not improved substantially, as

    determined by the Scholarship Committee.

    If the grantee fails to fulfill any of the above conditions, he/she forfeits the JD scholarship grant.

    Those who enjoy undergraduate scholarships in UA&P and are pursuing the JD in 7 years track may continue enjoying their scholarship benefits until the fourth year of their undergraduate course (first year of the JD Program) based on the terms and conditions of their University grants. After first year JD, they will be evaluated in accordance with, and their scholarship status and benefits will be governed by, the JD Scholarship Policy.

    Application Procedure

    1. Fill out a Scholarship Application Form, which may be downloaded from

    the SLG website: [email protected] or obtained from the SLG office.

    2. Submit the accomplished Scholarship Application Form to the SLG Office. The following documents must also be submitted:

    a. A letter addressed to the SLG Scholarship Committee stating why the applicant should be considered for the scholarship program.

    b. A clear photocopy of the most recent Income Tax Returns of the applicant, if employed or self-employed, and of each parent and sibling (who are employed or self-employed) and the Tax Withheld on Compensation Certificates; or if he/she is married, that of his/her ITR and that of his/her spouse.

    c. Certification from the current employer of each employed parent and sibling on the annual gross income (breakdown); for those working on contractual basis, a copy of the employment contract stating the duration of the contract and compensation package; or if he/she is married, that of his/her spouse.

    d. For those who are not filing income tax returns (whether they are

    unemployed or self-employed with a business earning not more than Php100,000.00 annually), a certificate of tax exemption (which can be obtained from the BIR district office).

    e. Recommendation form (to be filled out by a teacher or counselor who knows the student and his/her family circumstances well).

    Additional documents not on the list above may also be required (please refer to the application form). All the requirements should be complete in order that the application may be processed.

    New Applications From Currently Enrolled Students

    Past applicants for scholarship who were not previously awarded any grant may re-apply before the beginning of any school year during their stay at the SLG.

    Finalization Of The List Of Scholars The list of scholarship grantees shall be finalized by the end of the summer term. Once the list of scholars is drawn up, late applicants who may fulfill the conditions shall no longer be considered.
