jcps statement on missing autistic student

1
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AUGUST 14, 2015 Statement of JCPS, 8-14-15: First, and most important, is that the student is safe and returned to his family. We’re grateful this is the case. Second, we must ensure that the student has appropriate transportation so he can get back to the business of learning. We have confirmed a new transportation plan for him that will begin Monday. As we said earlier, we must now understand exactly what happened, so that we can determine the next steps. Here is what I can confirm this as of this time: o The student was on a bus that took him to the stop for his previous address. o When the parent called 911, the call was referred to MetroSafe where a JCPS official was on site, as is standard practice on the first few days of school. o Due to the nature of the call, however, it was referred immediately back to the police. o We then began using the technology, personnel and other resources to assist police in finding the student, working throughout the afternoon and evening and using the most updated information we had at any given time. o Ultimately, video footage led us to understand which bus the student had ridden and where he was dropped off; we gave that information to police and he was quickly located thereafter. The matter is still under investigation at this time. ###JCPS### Bonnie J.
