Month of August was one of the significant month in terms of various projects and events of LOMs and JCI India and I am indeed very happy to see all round activities being organized continuously by all the Zone of JCI India. As we all entered into sudden lockdown in month of March, future was looking very dark as the world came to complete standstill, but we changed our habit from doing physical meetings to online meetings and webinars and future started looking beautiful and now we have got habituated by doing webinars, projects, meetings, trainings in the most creative way and that has given outstanding results to JCI India because members feel completely engaged and they get so much learning seating at home or workplace from all this online programs.

I can tremendous amount of excitement and passion going especially from majority of LOMs of JCI India as I keep on getting phone calls and messages for Inviting me in various projects and events on virtual platform and that it self speaks volumes about commitment and love towards JCI India. I Sincerely appreciate the kind of work being taken up which is helping the members to transform themselves in to better Individual and that is real power and beauty of our organization that whenever great opportunities come knocking the door, our members are accepting it with the both the hands which is one of the biggest achviement for us by doing webinars and projects as it has opened the door for members to explore the best of the best opportunities.

  • I whole heartedly appreciate each one of you for creating a Bench mark and congratulate each one of you for your creative programs

Women empowerment refers to making women powerful to make them capable of deciding for themselves. Women have suffered a lot through the years at the hands of men. In earlier centuries, they were treated as almost non-existent. As if all the rights belonged to men even something as basic as voting. As the times evolved, women realized their power. There on began the revolution for women empowerment As women were not allowed to make decisions for them, women empowerment came in like a breath of fresh air. It made them aware of their rights and how they must make their own place in society rather than depending on a man. It recognized the fact that things cannot simply work in someone’s favor because of their gender. However, we still have a long way to go when we talk about the reasons why we need it.

Need for Women Empowerment Almost every country, no matter how progressive has a history of ill-treating women. In other words, women from all over the world have been rebellious to reach the status they have today. While the western countries are still making progress, third world countries like India still lack behind in Women Empowerment . In Ind ia , women empowerment is needed more than ever. India is amongst the countries which are not safe for women. There are various reasons for this. Firstly, women in India are in danger of honor killings. Their family thinks its right to take their lives if they bring shame to the reputation of their legacy. Moreover, the education and freedom scenario is very regressive here. Women are not allowed to pursue higher education, they are married off early. The men are still dominating women in some regions like it’s the woman’s duty to work for him endlessly. They do not let them go out or have freedom of any kind.

In addition, domestic violence is a major problem in India. The men beat up their wife and abuse them as they think women are their property. More so, because women are afraid to speak up. Similarly, the women who do actually work get paid less than their male counterparts. It is downright unfair and sexist to pay someone less for the same work because of their gender. Thus, we see how women empowerment is the need of the hour. We need to empower these women to speak up for themselves and never be a victim of injustice.

How to Empower Women? There are various ways in how one can empower women. The individuals, NGO’S and government all come together to make it happen. Education for girls must be made compulsory so that women can become il l i terate to make a l ife for themselves.

Women must be given equal opportunities in every field, irrespective of gender. Moreover, they must also be given equal pay. We can empower women by abolishing child marriage. Various programs must be held where they can be taught skills to fend for themselves in case they face financial crisis. Most importantly, the shame of divorce and abuse must be thrown out of the window. Many women stay in abusive relationships because of the fear of society. Parents must teach their daughters it is okay to come home divorced rather than in a coffin I would like to appreciate all Jaycees and Jaycerrette for doing Marvelous programs Let’s Serve with Pride to the needySTAY HOME STAY SAFE

  • JCI INDIA KUMAR 2020 - VIRTUAL REALITY JCI INDIA KUMAR 2020 - VIRTUAL REALITY JCI INDIA KUMAR 2020 - VIRTUAL REALITY Background & ObjectivesThis Naonal Program of JCI India is aimed at reaching out to the community, especially the school, college students. lt prepares them to take on the compeve world. We believe that classroom educaon is not enough to face the tough challenges of life ahead. This special training program prepares the younger generaon for the future and is an excellent plaorm for learning to face the challenges of life.

Design of ModulesKeeping this objecve in mind the topics were decided and designed by the dynamic faculty team with the help and guidance of Naonal President Anish C Mathew and mentors JCI Sen. Ravi Shankar & JCI Sen. K Vallabhdas.

Methods and ActivitiesIn view of the current situaon it was obvious that KUMAR 2020 was going to be organised on a virtual plaorm. It was decided to use the Zoom webinar plaorm. The acvies were also decided accordingly for which a whatsapp group of all parcipants was created 3 days before the training program. Groups were formed and also group tasks were given so as to foster team building and to see how well they implement it being at a distance.

Final ImplementationEven aer such meculous planning, implementaon was a great challenge taking in account factors like internet connecvity issues, making sessions interacve on an online plaorm etc. However all these were taken care making sure we had back up trainers all the me and using innovave techniques. All the trainers did a fantasc job.

FeedbackWe received some excellent feedback from the parcipants and observers which confirmed the success of both KUMAR (North & South). Hats off to the commitment of the faculty team and NHQ staff and of all involved in this training program. The enthusiasm and urge to learn shown by the parcipants added to the success of KUMAR 2020. This would go as one of its kind training program leaving much more to explore in the field of online training.

  • My Kumar Experience

Jr JC Shalma Merin Benny,Mlamala LOM,

    ZONE XXII

thOn 6 evening, when I opened my Whatsapp account, I found a new group named “JCI KUMAR 2020 South” and was added to another, which was our team.Suddenly seeing this new group packed with new faces, my teammates,I was tensed. It was my family and JCI officials who encouraged me. Then, w h e n m y t e a m m a t e s s t a r t e d i n t ro d u c i n g themselves, messaging each other; the gap was filled and I felt as a part of them.We were then eagerly waiting for the wonderful days KUMAR was yet to unfold.

For a hosteler like me who is hailing from a newborn LOM, JCI was known to me only by the phonecalls of my parents. It was lockdown, an actual blessing, which opened the world of JCI activities in front of me. Then, I wanted to know more about JCI from my own perspective. That's why I joined KUMAR.

Even in a virtual platform, KUMAR was such an eyeopener. It sawed the seeds of teamwork, leadership, perseverance and hard work. Each and every member of our team contributed to the activities, sharing their views, staying late at night, working hard to reach the goal.

It was really a blessed platform to know and to be in the guidance of Babu sir, Smitha mam, Agalya mam and Tito sir. Also, I thank each and every member who made KUMAR possible even in these days of chaos. Not just for mebut for everyone, KUMAR was a great experience where we met some extraordinary personalities from different places and different cultures;where I got the real foundation of JCI, widened my perspective about its activities and scope, which taught me valuable lessons of leadership and teamwork.

Now, when I go back to my hostel, to my colleagues, I'm thrilled to explain my lockdown JCI experiences; especially KUMAR; wholeheartedly inviting them to this life changing organization

I would say, I enjoyed these 2 days thoroughly with loads of learnings with activities. This year KUMAR , was very different. One reason, everyone knows it. It was virtual for the very first time. We were made into teams and we were added in a whatsapp group. I made a lot of new friends across the Country, who will be treasured for lifetime. Every session was so much of fun with knowledge.

From a very long time, I wanted to make a "Wish Tree", which, I could do it now. I thank KUMAR, for giving us this wonderful opportunity. The faculties were so joyful, that we didn't feel that, we were stuck to one place, for two days.

I sincerely, thank our Pilot faculty JCI Senator K.Babu sir for making us understand about how to be a good decision-maker and a good leader. And thank you, sir for sharing your Life experiences which connected us well. My gratitude would be incomplete If I do not mention about our co-faculties , JC Smitha ma'am and JC KA Agalya ma'am. They were so apt that I still remember every word that they said.Overall, the faculties were the best. Though virtual, we all got connected with the faculties very well. We literally enjoyed to be with them for 2 days of KUMAR. I am so happy, that, I invested my time for KUMAR.

Now, my confidence levels have doubled. And I am sure that if I implement all these learnings in my life, I will enjoy the fruit of success, for lifetime.

I would suggest, every Junior Jaycee, to experience KUMAR and enjoy the moments, spent.

*Service to humanity is the best work of life*Floods are among the most frequent and costly natural disasters ..... specially in Assam. Every flood leaves the region helpless. Impacting the property and lives of people.

We JCI GUWAHATI ANGELS have Organised a flood relief camp at Rajabari , Panikheti .We have adopted this village in the year 2017 and since than we are continuously providing services there as its our duty to take care of them. On 23rd July we have distributed flood relief items eg dry food ration items, mosquito nets etc for full 281 families of that village. Approximately more than 1500 peoples will get benefited by this.

Due to this pandemic situation we distributed 50 packets among the villagers and rest we handed over to Mr Biren khalkari ( our appointed cate taker). Every packet contains Rice, Dal Chirwa, Musturd Oil, Salt , Biscuits, Soya chunks, Candles, match boxes , Mosquito coils and Mosquito nets. We will send pad Banks to them under Prayas.

    MEGA TREE PLANTATION

Its a great opportunity that we got by this wonderful organisation. Yes GO GREEN by Impact 2030 as a part of UNSDG.We the Jaycees of zone 24 are very proud that the GO GREEN project conducted in such a grand manner. We planed and gave target to the whole zone to plant 10000 tree saplings. For this our ZD program JC Uday Kadamba took initiation and all ZVPs and ZGB members showed their maximum effort.

The main thing is our Lom presidents response, its really great. We announced the project on June 5 th World envirornament day in the name HASIROTSAVA. Its a one month program that every lom should send their report before 5th of July.

Day by day we really get surprised because all most all loms of our zone saplined the plants with all protective measures. For this project we engaged with the forest deportment, with local administrtives and with other social organizations and mainly with the farmers. It gives us a huge mileage in the society. You believe it or not till July 31 st our saplings crossed 30000 which is a milestone event in the zone. The main thing is till today the projectis running by many loms. In many areas of our zone the state government also joined and appreciated JCI.

Am very much thank to everyone for the support and we made real property to our next generation. This is the best gift to our nature, our child. I don't have any regret words to our Jaycees of zone 24...

A Gem of Award Orientation WorkshopJCI HONGKONG & JCI INDIA

For the first time…JCI Award Orientation seminar was held with International faculties, who are expert on E award bidding and who has won several multiple awards in JCI ASPAC and JCI World Congress. It was another innovative initiative by our National President.

The program was inaugurated by JCI Sen Teresa Poon, JCI Hongkong NP 2017 & JCI VP 2019. The training was imparted by JCI Sen Yoee Leung (14 awards won in WC, ASPAC & JCI Hongkong) and JCI Sen Cyrus Tang ( 8 awards won in ASPAC & JCI Hongkong). This very special program was well attended by chosen participants from each Zone.

Following are the brief of what we have learned from the efficient Faculties of JCI Hongkong on JCI E AWARD BIDDING

The Winning Theory of JCI Awards:

BASIC ELEMENTS TO PREPARE JCI AWARD BID

    1. Clear Cut Project Info2. Statistics with graph/pie chart/numbers3. Sponsors logo4. Unique Selling Points of the project5. Photos

STRATEGIES: AWARD BID SHOULD MEET THE JCI CRITERIA , JCI RULES AND OTHER JCI BELIEFS.

    1. To frame the project with JCI Strategic plans; invest- connect- motivate- impact- collaborate

    2. To be aligned with UNSDG's3. Peace Is Possible is also preferred in JCI4. To be aligned with Active Citizen Framework 5. Use WP/NP theme like “Bridge the Gap”, JCI Theme “Be better”6. JCI Common languages to be used frequently7 JCI Core value to be aligned

POINTS TO REMEMBER AND APPLY WHILE PREPARING THE BID MATTER:

    1. Writing should be like Storytelling, an unknown person should be able to visualize the project by reading.

    2. IT SHOULD BE MEASURABLE – number of participation/ quantities to be informed.3 Recruitment – Mention, if you had to involve people outside LOM, for the project. 4 ACHIEVEMENTS - Media coverage. Press release, Records, recognitions to be put up.5. Development from the project- Growth of the society/organization through the project

  • APCC – BRIDGE CLUB INDIA SHINESCelebrating 20 successful years of BRIDGE CLUB INDIA.

    Every year JCI India sends a delegation to Fukuoka, Japan which comprises of 11-year-old children, a Chaperone and a Peace ambassador for the Asia Pacific Children's Convention. We have been sending such delegations since the last 30 years. The APCC is a civic movement which is funded by local governments as well as supported by donations from corporate sponsors and the APCC Supporters' Association. Historically, Fukuoka has been a contact point for cultural exchange between Japan and other countries in Asia. The APCC is a continuation of this tradition as we head towards a digital age of international communication. By holding the APCC, we hope to foster “Global Citizens”, who can think o f t h e w o r l d b e y o n d n a t i o n a l b o u n d a r i e s a n d d e s i r e w o r l d “ P e a c e a n d C o - e x i s t e n c e ” .

The spirit of Bridge Clubs around the world was commenced by The Asian Pacific Children's Convention to promote world peace and co-existence through several Bridge Clubs around the world. Bridge Club India was established in the year 2000 to promote peace, harmony and friendship by conducting various humanitarian activities around the nation.

BC India has been doing activities such as: Donating food supplies to the needy, planting trees, visiting old age homes & orphanages, organising blood donation camps, art competitions, carrying out celebration with female prisoners as well as organising cultural exchange programs through e-platforms are some of the activities carried out by the club.I was

thappointed as President of BC India on 4 December 2019 in NATCON, Nagpur by IPNP Jc. Shirish Dundoo. That was a very proud moment of my life.

Recently Bridge Club India has also taken a step to establish an executive body consisting of The President, Head Co-ordinator, PR Head and 10 Zone Co-ordinators. The Executive Body is guided by the esteemed Advisory Committee, which helps us whenever needed. Their guidance is the reason we have been able to successfully conduct so many successful activities, activate many members and drastically increase the exposure of BC India.

Bridge Club India did so by dividing India into 5 zones i.e. East, West, North, South and Central Zone and appointed Coordinators and Co-coordinators from each zones. This initiative was made to witness a better uniformity in the working of the club as well as for effective management of the activities taking place in different zones of India.

Recently, in the wake of the spread of COVID-19 around the nation, Bridge Club India had organised an online national-level cooking competition which witnessed great support and participation of more than 100 entries throughout the country. There were four categories in which awards were given: 1. Fire Cooking 2. Non-Fire Cooking 3. Children's' Category and 4. Overall Judges Choice. There were attractive cash prizes for each category. The results of the competition were declared by Honourable JCI India National President Jc Anish Mathew in a Zoom meeting, which was attended by many PNPs and the participants of the competition.

Not only this but during the OMOIYARI Art Contest, an art competition conducted by APCC, Bridge Club India had participants from all over the nation by garnering more than 85 entries in this international art competition. The competition had close to 300 entries, and India being able to contribute so many entries is due to the relentless hard work of the Zone Co-ordinators of BC India.

  • thOn 14 April 2020 BC India conducted a training session on “Time Management in the time of COVID-19, whose faculty was JCI National Trainer Jc. Dharini Manish Selarka. The aim of the training session was for all to utilise the time available during the nationwide lockdown and make most of the time available to us. The session was also a success as more than 30 participants attended it and learned how to master time. It was the most needed session at the time.

In June, APCC came out with the “Smile Mask” Movement. The activity required a participant to post a photo wearing a mask with a smiley emoji on it. Globally, APCC received about 250 entries, and BC India provided 23 of those entries. This was another feather on the work of BC India.

BC India has improved manifolds in the last one year. The structure of governance has been made organized, the reach of the club has increased. We have been able to increase the number of active members drastically. This has been made possible due to the support of all the members. All the members of BC India are from the JCI family and it is an honour to be associated with it.

Being the President of BC India has been a rollercoaster ride for me. I have friends from all over the world and corners of India. It has motivated me to do things which I couldn't believe are even possible and makes me a better person. BC India is creating future leaders in children, who get the opportunity to visit Japan and get exposed to such a great cause at a young age. I thank JCI India for giving this same opportunity in the year 2007 when I had visited Japan as Junior Ambassador. Little did I know this is going to change my life. JCI India has always supported BC India and we are sure of their support in the future as well.

  • ABLE WOMEN IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP

As every year Naonal President of JCI has theme, it stuck to our minds to do such similar sustainable projects in my presidentship. Our LOM JCI Vizag Steel City was a baby LOM and was already reaping the heights with its unique programs. One such program I aended was UDAAN by JCI Sen Sheetal Gandhi. I wanted to do a program which gives a boost to the women hood for the i r ex i stence . Women Empowerment has been my basic idea and ll today women are sll struggling to get her presence felt. Though the mes have changed, lot of economic and social developments have been happening, but sll women feel so bound towards their family and children, sacrificing their career. She wants to be with them and yet want to do something in their lives. This one program was looking for name and I remember my good friend and Naonal Trainer Dr. Ravichandra then Zone Director (Training) advised that “you should have a great abbreviaon for your program”. Aer series of names we finalized AWE (Able Women in Entrepreneurship) the credit goes to my husband Jc Vamsidhar.

We wanted ladies to learn a skill which enhances their livelihood and to earn something for themselves. Inially, we started with an hour workshop on how to make jewellery with threads in the year 2016, it was the most fascinang and easy skill to learn. The start was good, and we had about fieen ladies who aended the workshop. It was beneficial for them as they could make and gi the same to their friends and family. The basic idea was to make them feel happy. The work which gives them happiness, otherwise money was just a small amount. Women should feel happy in whatever skill they possess and try to explore their talent. We used to do one program every year, a new skill every year to be learnt. This program became popular in the Zone. In the year 2017 we did another basic workshop on Chocolate making and how to do businessout of it. The opportunies were open to them through our zone business group. Ladieswere happy and similarly weconducted cake baking and saree painng workshops in the years 2018 and 2019 respecvely. Jc Roopa, Zone Director Jcrt wing & Lady LOM says“I was fortunate enough to be the first trainer for the workshop under this program, it has influenced ladies from then to learn the skill and empower themselves in the field of business”.

However, we wanted this program to get more popular and reach as many women as possible, to learn the skill and, also to earn from it. We had a month-long planning and decided to do this program every single month in the year 2020. The program was designed, and we were successful in doing the programs every single month, even during this pandemic situaon. We successfullyconducted Macramé workshop, an idea to revive the age-old art which our grannies and mothers use to do. This program got huge accolades and was appreciated by our Zone Past Presidents and senior Jaycees.

    32JCI India Challenge | August 2020

  • We were invited to come and do the programs in different regions and cies. The joy of geng appreciaons for the work overwhelmed our feelings. Saree Screen prinng was our second month program which got appreciaons not only from our zone members and seniors, but from our Past Naonal President JCI Sen K V Ratnam. He has been instrumental in encouraging us for the beerment of ladies. We were fortunate to have him as our guest to give a message to the ladies and appreciate the trainers.

Few words by JCI Sen K V Ratnam “AWE some is a very mild expression of my appreciaon for the program AWE (Able Women in Entrepreneurship). This program establishes the foundaon for many young women looking for a business opening. When I aended as a guest the excitement and thespark of confidence built in the parcipants was visible. Jc Jaya Lakshmi (Naonal Trainer & Past President of JCI Vizag Steel City) Zone 4, is the brain behind this foray. Meculously planning the course content, promoon, choosing right faculty & ambience are her forte. The program right now is creang waves in Vizag. It would a worthwhile thought if such an iniave is taken up at the naonal level of JCI India.”

Though we could not conduct live programs due to COVID-19 Pandemic, sessions connued virtual meeng plaorms. The other programs done during the lockdown were Chocolate making, cake baking, Heal Tea (healthy herbal teas to boost immunity) cookies making, mask making, Bole painng using waste material available at home. JCI Sen Ranjeet Sah, Zone Director-Business has been very encouraging and giving us ideas to reach more and more people. Few words of appreciaon from him “it's always an honour aending the AWE and seeing the enthusiasm of organising team. The project is inspiring ladies to become entrepreneurs and have already started earning from their business. As Zone Director Business, I congratulate them for bringing AWE to this level and wishing them great success.”

“This program gave ray of light to many women who want to do something in their lives. Many women got benefied through this program and are earning quite well who wanted to do this as a business. Few of the ladies have been receiving orders from our Jaycee members. A small iniaon was started to bring change in the lives of women and Bridge the Gap between their family and professional lives. I will be thankful to my LOM JCI Vizag Steel City. I hope that this program gets adopted as the Naonal Program by our Naonal Governing Board. I have learnt a lot from JCI, and it is me to give back. It was a small iniaon from my side to Jaycees. Jai Jaycees.”

  • JCI Kota Chambal has been a great source of inspiration to me. I have evolved as a person with more exposure to the outside world. It has provided a platform to young minds to "think out of the box" and showcase their creative side, their talent and skills which makes it stand out from the other organizations.

It is like a complete package of personality development, exposure, personal growth in terms of polishing our skills. Being a Ju. Jc. President I have discovered many of my skills like - Leadership, Public Speaking Skills, People Management, and Program Management among other.

I feel really proud as well as privileged to be a part of this marvelous organization. The projects which were managed by me, helped me learn a lot -

    1. Gau Shala visit

In this program we, Ju. Jaycees were made to understand all about how to take care and look after " Gau Mata" this was a very knowledgeable program. We asked the member Ju. Jaycees to prepare small write up on " Basant Pachmi " and narrate it. As we researched about the festival, we learnt about the greatness of Indian Festivals as well as got a chance to speak in front of 50+ people. It helped us develop love towards the nature along with respecting animals.

    2. " Best Out of Waste"

As we all know that due to covid-19 lockdown we all were staying at home but this did not restricted our creativity.

We organized for Junior Jaycees a competition to make the best use of the waste items at home. This project involved lot of interaction over phone with many Junior Jaycees, explaining and resolving their problems, which helped me understand how to find quick fixes for problems and meet deadlines.

    3. Fun Online Contests

"Fun has no bounds" May there be covid-19 or any other pandemic we never limit ourselves when it's time for fun even during the lockdown junior jaycees were introduced with a smorgasbord of online contests from developing creative skills to showing love towards nature.

This project helped me understand if we explore and think, we can find ways to achieve things. Getting people involved in any project is difficult, but if we are persistent and do not give up trying we can achieve the best.

I would be forever thankful to JCI Kota Chambal for pushing me and polishing me to become a better person.

  • If we observe, the moment life becomes a little challenging, things don't happen our way or someone

behaves not in accordance to how we had expected, we start complaining. On an average, people complain

15-30 times a day. So if it is too hot or too cold today, we are complaining. If the Flight got delayed, our order at

the restaurant arrived a little late, our kids are disobeying, boss has handed over extra responsibility, we are

complaining...and complaining... And this complaining continues.

Whereas once in a while its ok , but thinking that this continuous complaining will relieve us of our stress, then we are highly mistaken. If we take Complaining as a GO-TO coping mechanism all the time, then we are doing so much of harm to ourselves which we aren't even aware of. Lets see the harmful effects of continuous complaining :-1. Its bad for our Brain's health:So when we complain, stress hormone- Cortisol is released that damages our neural connections. This shrinks the area of our brain called Hippocampus. This Hippocampus is responsible for Problem solving and intelligent thoughts. And hence, constant complaining, effects our Brain's Problem Solving Function. This can also lead to memory loss.Because of this habit, we develop a sense of unhappiness; it takes away our peace and leaves us in a state of anxiety and dissatisfaction. We feel as if our life is out of our control and we are the victim.

    2. It damages our general health too:Continuous complaining attitude ruins our Immune system. It also raises the Blood sugar, Blood pressure, cholesterol and so increases the chances of Heart disease.

    3. It becomes our default behaviour:Repeated complaining makes it more likely for our brain to complain in future too. Slowly and gradually we find it easier to be negative than positive, and complaining becomes our default behaviour.

    4. It makes us the carrier of “Negativity”:We not only do harm to ourselves, but also cause harm to the environment and spread negativity with our complaining attitude. Have you ever noticed, “Complaints want people to join the Pity Parties”.

nd5. Even 2 hand complaining is harming:

ndHeard of 2 hand smoking? Very similar to that, when you are not complaining yourself, but are listening to someone complaining, the damage is guaranteed. There's a reason behind this. Our brains unconsciously mimic the moods of the people around us. This is what happens in the Music Festivals. We start experiencing the vibes and high energy of mob enjoying around. This is termed as Neuronal Mirroring. So Be careful.

Lets Win Over The Habit of Constant ComplainingLets Win Over The Habit of Constant ComplainingLets Win Over The Habit of Constant Complaining

    38JCI India Challenge | August 2020

  • All right, so what do we do then ??

    1. Just think about this, would you continue sitting in the company of a person who is smoking? No, you would simply get up and walk away. So, in this case too, simply walk away. We need to stay away from the company of chronic complainers.

    2. Lets Complain only with a purpose of finding a solution or of resolving a grievance. For ex – If your child's performance has been going down, you need to make a complaint to your child, in order to find a solution for this deteriorating performance. After all its about their future.

    3. Right way to complain:a. Be Specific. Lets talk only of the present problem and not pull in ancient grievances in the recent talk.b. Sandwich your complaint. Start with a positive statement. Next say your complaint. And now End with another positive note.

    4. Replace every “Have To” with “Get To”:So having an attitude of gratitude helps in this habit of continuous complaining. Whenever , for ex- “ I have to cook daily”, “I have to go through this Traffic jam every morning”, you have such thoughts rushing in, simply substitute have to with get to and notice the vast difference. It suddenly becomes a blessing. “I get to cook daily”- means I am blessed with a family that I get to cook for, also that I am blessed with sufficient Food. “I get to experience the traffic jam”- means I am blessed with a vehicle, also with a job that I go for daily. I am blessed enough to be working.

    5. Knowing what's in control and what's out of control. So if we are complaining about something that we do have control over, then come on, take the responsibility , take the action so as to find the solution. For eg- “Its so very Cold. I hate this weather” . Of course you can keep yourself warm, avoid going out, have a hot coffee/ tea.And if something is out of control, then what's the point of complaining. India lost the match. What role do you have there to play. What's then the point of complaining about XYZ's performance?

    6. Show STOP signThe moment such thoughts cross our mind, lets show them a STOP sign then and there itself. Interrupt the thought and challenge one self to not complain.

    7. Wear an Elastic Band around wrist.Try this out if you want to keep a check on the number of times you are complaining. Wear an elastic band in your wrist and every time you complain, pull it out and wear in the other wrist. This way, attaching a physical activity with complaining habit, will give us an idea, how many times we have been doing this and hence we would gradually become mindful of it.

So Dear all, next time, whenever there's an urge to complain, just take a pause. Its always easier to complain. But lets take the responsibility and find the solutions. Because the world has been changed for better, not by people who complained but by people who stepped forward to find the solutions. And we all are capable, tremendously, in contributing to make this world a better place , what so ever be the magnitude of our contribution, it counts.

I took this opportunity to find my“ME TIME” & could read a few really life changing books. I am trying to share the incepts of globally acclaimed book “Who Moved My Cheese”& how the contents of the book can change our lives. The book is penned by Dr. Spencer Johnson, who is also the co-author of bestselling book “The One Minute Manager”.

Theme: We are resistant to new changes in life. This book deals with that fear to change, unfolds the secrets of adaptaon to new changes, an amazing way to deal with Changes in your life, work, & relaonships.

    Story goes this way…

4 characters each having unique trait - represenng the various parts of our life2 mice, 2 lile people, CHEESE (Happiness)& Maze (Work Place / Life)Sniff- Who sniffs (senses odor) out change early Scurry – Who scurries (hurries) into acon& lile people having brains like humansHem- Who denies “change”Ham- Adaptsto “change” slowly

These 4 characters ran through a complex Maze to find a Cheese which will feed them, nourish them & make them happy. Sniff & Scurry used trial & error methodfor finding the cheese while Hem & Ham used their ability to think, human beliefs & emoons. They ulmately landed at Cheese Staon “C” with their own capabilies. Now, every morning, all 4 headed to cheese staon C with their own roune. Sniff & Scurry wake up early morning every day, race through maze & reach the Cheese staon following the same route. Then they put their running shoes around their neck & enjoyed the Cheese. What Hem & Haw were doing? Over the period, they set different roune & started the day late, & walked to Cheese Staon as per their own convenience. They thought the Cheese was their property now, unaware of who put it there. They took no care of their running shoes. They felt it like their home, secured, becoming more & more comfortablewith a sense of arrogance of success. Aerall, Cheese was more than enough for their lifeme. This roune of 4 went for quite some me. And one day...

Sniff & Scurry arrived early as usual but alas….no cheese, staon C was empty. But they were not surprised. They were observing the change in staon C, Cheese geng smaller every day. They were knowing what to do next. Sniff noced the & Scurry swung into . They did not over analyse the things. It change early acon immediatelywas simple. Staon C was changed & they decided to change. They put their running shoes in their feet, they had hung in their neck & headed to find a new source of Cheese in the complex maze. So simple was the soluon.

Later the same day, Hem & Ham arrived at the Cheese staon C in their fashion & to their uer surprise, there was no Cheese. It was beyond imaginaon for both Hem & Ham. Cheese was their source of happiness.

While Sniff & Scurry had quickly moved on, Hem & Haw couldn't get over it.Hem started to get depressed with the thought of No Cheese. Hem & Haw sll connued to come to Cheeseless staon C with great hope to find their cheese. But the situaon didn't change. They were becoming frustrated, angry & were blaming each other for this terrible situaon.Haw started analysing the things with his human brain & realized the things were changing around there & they needed to change. But Hem was not ready to accept the change. He did not want to leave the Staon C, to come out of that comfort zone.In the meanme, . They succeeded in searching the Mice Sniff & Scurry didn't think of anything else but finding new Cheesebiggest source of new cheese, staon “N” which they had never thought of. Lately, Haw had started imagining Sniff & Scurry enjoying new Cheese. This thought made him to get up & search for new Cheese. The more clearly Haw visualizedof himself enjoying the New Cheese, the more he saw himself leaving the staon C.He laughed at own follies & ventured out with smile to look for new Cheese through Maze. It was a Maze me. Aer his reless efforts, Haw could find a new Cheese staon “N”, biggest source of Cheese he ever imagined. The staon was piled with variety of Cheese new to him including his favourite ones. It was a jackpot. He pulled off his shoes & this me hanged them around his neck in case he needed them again. Now he decided to be ready for unexpected change. What made him to change? He realized the fastest way to change was then let it go & quickly to laugh at your own stupidity, move on.Hem, however, sll was stuck up at Staon C. He had to find his own way, beyond his own comforts & past his fears. No one else could do it for him.

Self-IntrospeconThis is the me to check which character we are fing into – Sniff, Scurry, Hem or Haw. What character I should be playing in life? Yes, self-introspecon is must to make our life beer. Let's think, how this small simple story can bring change in my personal life, beer my relaons, how can I be successful in my professional life, grow my business.Am I adapng the change with open mind & devising my acon plan or just cursing the surrounding situaons & waing for miracles to happen?

Life lessons1. 2. Change is inevitable. Adapt to changes with open mind & without fear.

Be aware of what's happening around you2. Don't ride on arrogance of success3. We should move our own Cheese if me demands4. Paint a picture of “New Cheese”.5. Improve your relaonships. Let go your “OLD CHEESE” – old behaviour,&

get New Cheese… a new relaonship with the same person.6. Change the way of doing job instead of changing the jobs for fruiul

  • COVID AND DENTISTRYCOVID AND DENTISTRYCOVID AND DENTISTRYCOVID 19 or Corona Virus Disease - 2019 is a highly contagious virus that has become a global pandemic, claiming many lives. Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus - 2 ( SARS -CoV-2) which is a new type of Corona virus that caused the Corona Virus Disease 2019 ( COVID 19) was first identified amid an outbreak of respiratory illness in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China. Since then, it has spread across the whole world, uncontrolled. The WHO has declared the COVID 19 outbreak, a global health emergency.

Persons suffering from Corona have shown influenza like illness and respiratory tract infections like fever, cough, sputum production, shortness of breath, fatigue and in some cases , even loss of smell and loss of taste. The spectrum of the severity of the disease may range from an asymptomatic infection, mild upper respiratory tract illness, severe viral pneumonia with respiratory failure and/or death. Also individuals who have at least one co- existing morbidity are at a higher risk of developing severe COVID- 19, resulting in hospitalization and/or ICU support.

COVID- 19 is said to be transferred from person to person through direct, indirect or close contact with infected persons. Transmission happens around 2 to 10 days prior to the individual becoming symptomatic. Infected secretions such as saliva and respiratory secretions such as those droplets which are expelled when an infected person coughs and sneezes can reach the mouth, nose or eyes of a susceptible person and can result in the infection. In the case of indirect contact, transmission can happen due to contact of a susceptible host, with a contaminated object or surface. Airborne transmission is caused by the dissemination of droplets that remain infectious when suspended in air, over long distances and time. This happens during medical and dental procedures that generate aerosols. These aerosols can remain viable in the air for hours and a susceptible person could get infected.

The WHO has advised to wear masks and maintain social distancing and also to wash hands with soap and water and to sanitize whenever necessary. The mouth, eyes and nose should not be touched unnecesarily. For those who have contracted the virus, management is mainly symptomatic treatment since NO SPECIFIC ANTIVIRAL TREATMENT EXISTS!

Due to the charecteristics and the nature of their practise, dentists pose a high risk category. The Kerala Health Authorities in conjunction with the Indian Dental Association, Kerala State has formulated certain guidelines, which is mandatory since it tries to ensure a safe and ethical practise which helps to curtail the spread of this outbreak.

Dental practises are now strictly restricted to attending dental emergencies and providing urgent dental care. The use of personal protective equipment by a dental surgeon and the dental assistant while treating patients has been instructed. It includes gloves, gowns, headcap, face masks, goggles/ faceshield and shoe covers. Patients are required to take appointments before they can meet up with their doctors in order to abide by the rules given by the government with regards to social distancing. On arrival, the patient is supposed to wear a face mask and the foot wear should be removed outside. After hand sanitization, at the reception, a thorough screening is done for every patient before providing treatment. A gloved and masked staff would require the patient to fill a risk assessment form, after which the patient would be allowed to the operatory. In the operatory, a pre procedural mouth rinse would be given to the patient, after which a well protected dentist examines the patient. The use of air condition is not recommended in the operatory. After the patient leaves, a disinfection p r o t o c o l i s u n d e r t a k e n t o h e l p r e d u c e t h e s p r e a d o f m i c r o o r g a n i s m s , i f a n y.

The recent state of affairs obligates the need to strike a balance between the safety of the health care professionals and yet providing optimum dental care to the patients requiring emergency intervention. It is binding upon every individual to make a responsible effort to help in overcoming this upsurge.
