4. iGAAP 2016 A guide to Ind AS reporting (set of 3 vol.). By Deloitte, 1st Edition 2016 (PB). A

brief write up about the Manual/Key features On 16 February 2015, the MCA notified the

Companies (Indian Accounting Standards) Rules, 2015 that set out the text of 39 Ind ASs and the

dates of implementation of Ind AS by various classes of companies. These were amended on 30

March 2016 by the issuance of the Companies (Indian Accounting Standards) (Amendment)

Rules, 2016. Specified classes of companies will be required to adopt Ind ASs for their financial

statements from accounting periods beginning on or after 1 April 2016 with comparatives for

periods ending 31 March 2016. The implementation of Ind ASs involves a new way of thinking

about accounting and financial reporting with greater emphasis on interpretation and application of

principles - with particular focus on the substance and underlying economics of a transaction, and

on transparency of financial information. Transitioning from Indian GAAP to Ind AS is not simply a

policy change; it is a pervasive change that impacts many aspects of a business and starting early

is the key to a successful transition. To that end, this manual compiled by Deloitte Touche

Tohmatsu India LLP sets out comprehensive guidance for entities who will be reporting under Ind

AS. This manual provides invaluable assistance by: Focusing on the practical issues faced by

reporting entitiesExplaining clearly the requirements of Ind ASs indicating clearly the carve outs in

the Ind ASs from IFRSIncluding interpretation and commentary when Ind ASs are silent,

ambiguous or unclearIncluding a separate volume on financial instrumentsProviding many

illustrative examples Volume A of the manual covers all Ind ASs notified by the MCA other than

those dealing exclusively with financial instruments, which are addressed in Volume B. It also

includes guidance on the application of Ind AS 115 Revenue from Contracts with Customers,

which although not currently effective, will considerably impact reporting entities in the future.

Volume B of the manual provides guidance on the application of the complex Indian Accounting

Standards dealing with financial instruments. The Standards covered are Ind AS 109 Financial

Instruments; Ind AS 107 Financial Instruments: Disclosures; Ind AS 32 Financial Instruments:

Presentation; and Ind AS 113 Fair Value Measurement. Requirements are based on the text of the

Ind ASs at 31 March 2016.. (JBA Code: 169884)

BIOGRAPHIES & MEMOIRS

17. Haar Nahi Manoonga -: Ek Atal Jeevan Gatha (in Hindi). By Vijai Trivedi, 2016 (PB). There is rarely a moment in history

where all political parties give their consent to something without any debate or controversy. There is often some amount of

unspoken opposition even in unanimity. But when the ruling NDA government decided to confer the Bharat Ratna, India's

highest civilian honour, on India's ex-PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, not a single party raised a voice of dissent. They all

unanimously welcomed the decision to honour one of the greatest political leaders of the country who also served the nation

thrice as a Prime Minister: First for 13 days, then for 13 months followed by a five-year term, the first PM outside Congress

to have achieved that feat. What is so special about Atal Bihari Vajpayee's persona that makes him so popular across

parties and ideologies? Was he really 'the right man in the wrong party'? This biography decodes the statesman, political

stalwart, the journalist and the poet who is considered to be one of the most successful prime ministers India's ever had..

(HB). Justice at Heart: Life Journey of Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer by Salman Khurshid and Dr. Lokendra Malik is the story of a

crusader against injustice, a legendary judge who lived and worked for social justice for the people of India. Justice Krishna

20. The Modi Doctrine - New Paradigms in India's Foreign Policy. By Anirban Ganguly & Vijay Chauthaiwale, 2016 (HB).

States today are far more engaged in diplomacy than ever before, actively building relations with other states to harness

their mutual commercial and cultural strengths. Prime Minister Narendra Modis outlook to global affairs is no different, yet

there is a nuanced approach in linking Indias foreign policy to domestic transformation. While on the one hand, his policies

seek to attract foreign capital, technology and open foreign markets for Indian products, on the other, they are geared

towards regional stability, peace and prosperity. All events are texts to be analysed and the authors in this volume do so but

emphatically underline that Indias diplomacy under Modi has got a go-getting edge, that it is no longer foreign anymore but a

matter of public affairs and that with Modi at the helm, India is set to leverage its role and make itself a diplomatic

superpower. . (JBA Code: 169939)

55. The Rise and Fall of Nations - Ten Rules of Change in the Post - Crisis World. By Ruchir Sharma, 2016 (HB). Shaped

by his 25 years travelling the world, and enlivened by his encounters with presidents, tycoons and villagers from Rio to

Beijing, Ruchir Sharma's new book rethinks the dismal science of economics as a practical art, based not just on crunching

numbers but on live observation. He shows us how to read the political headlines, the world billionaire rankings, the price of

onions and popular news magazine covers as signs of coming booms, busts and protests. Parsing the complicated flood of

data on debt, trade and capital flows, Sharma explains exactly which numbers are most telling for a nation's fortunes, and

when they signal a turn for the better or worse. In our post-crisis age that has turned the world on its head, and ended a

decade of supercharged growth, replacing political calm with revolt and hype for globalization with fear of deglobalization,

Sharma's pioneering book 'erves as a highly readable field guide to understanding change not only in this new era, but in

any era. It is written for any practical person - newspaper reader, business executive, politician or investor - interested in a

new economics focused on what is coming next, not on the past. There is a saying that to know the road ahead, ask those

coming back. On this road, Sharma is the one who has been there ahead of us. About the Author Ruchir Sharma is Head of

Emerging Markets and Chief Global Strategist at Morgan Stanley Investment Management. With more than $20 billion of

assets under management, Ruchir is one of the world's largest global investors. He typically spends one week every month

in a different emerging market where he meets leading politicians, top CEOs and other local characters. He has been with

the firm for 19 years and is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the Investment Management division.Ruchir

has been a writer for even longer than he has been an investor. He started writing at the age of 17 for India's largest

economic daily, The Economic Times and is now a frequent contributor to the op-ed pages of The Wall Street Journal, The

Financial Times, Foreign Affairs and The Times of India. His essays have also appeared in, Time, The New York Times,

Foreign Policy, Forbes and Bloomberg View. For much of the last decade he had been a contributing editor and regular

columnist for Newsweek International.Ruchir may be most well-known for his 2012 book, Breakout Nations: In Pursuit of the

Next Economic Miracles. Breakout Nations debuted as the number one bestseller in India, and earned Sharma the Tata

Literature Live! First Book Award for 2012. Breakout Nations also made the Wall Street Journal hardcover business

bestseller list, and was chosen by Foreign Policy as one of its "21 Books to Read in 2012". Ruchir's next book, THE RISE

AND FALL OF NATIONS: Forces of Change in the Post-Crisis World will be released in June 2016.Bloomberg named

Ruchir one of the top 50 Most Influential people in the world in October 2015. In 2012, Sharma was selected as one of the

top global thinkers by Foreign Policy magazine and in June 2013, India's premier weekly magazine Outlook chose Ruchir as

one of The World's 25 Smartest Indians. The World Economic Forum in Davos selected Ruchir as one of the world's "Top

Young Leaders" in 2007.Ruchir is especially passionate about politics and has formed an informal group of senior Indian

editors and writers with whom he travels extensively before major state and national elections; usually logging in over 1,000

miles over 4-5 days, meeting with the nation's top leaders and getting a first-hand feel of local politics. Ruchir's other

interests include athletics and a serious commitment to running. Despite his extensive travels, he tries not to miss a single

day of training no matter where he is in the world. He regularly trains with a former Olympics coach and competes in

sprinting events. In 2011, he represented India in the World Masters Athletic championship in Sacramento. Ruchir is a movie

buff and makes it a point to attend major film festivals anytime he can take a moment away from his investing, writing and

running. He also has a fascination with wildlife, and his annual safaris inform the prologue to THE RISE AND FALL OF

NATIONS, a meditation on how witnessing predator-prey behavior on the African plains has shaped his rules for national

survival and success in the global economy. is head of emerging markets at Morgan Stanley. His acclaimed book, Breakout

Nations: In Pursuit of the Next Economic Miracles (2012), was an international bestseller. Sharma is an occasional television

commentator on CNBC and in India, and a regular columnist for Newsweek, the Wall Street Journal and the Economic

Times of India. He has been named as one of Foreign Affairs' top global thinkers (2012) and one of Bloomberg's 50 Most

Influential People (2015).. (JBA Code: 169736)

80. Medical Negligence & Legal Remedies. By Anoop K.Kaushal, 4th edition, 2016 (PB). The human body remains one of the

greatest creations of Almighty on earth. Since evolution, man has endeavored to keep himself rooted with the gifts of nature

over the world apply similar parameters for determination of liability in such eventful episodes of medical negligence.

Medicine is said to be an inexact science. Therefore, each case has its own peculiar impact. Based on the pathophysiology

of the disease, its prognosis, known complications, morbidity, mortality, palliative care, and the prevailing protocols of clinical

practices for its management, the adjudication of the dispute is arrived at. The book entails its focus on discussing a large

number of diseases so that the judicial pronouncements on the merits involved, reach every reader.. (JBA Code: 169628)

82. Off the Office - Reminiscences & Recollections. By Justice P.S. Narayana, 2016 (HB). This tiny book Off the Office is a

brief note of my experiences after laying down the office as a judge of High Court of Andhra Pradesh. Life is a struggled and

experience makes us to perfect. I have always emphasised on discipline, duty, devotion, dedication and determination. Truth

is a virtue and it is the essence of human life. Service to humanity is a service to divinity. Religion is something concerned

with ones own faith. The concept of divinity is a larger concept when compared to religion. Divinity is an ocean and the

religions are rivers joining the ocean. In my view, there is only one supreme religion, which is human religion. No religion

preaches terrorism. No Religion preaches dishonesty. No religion preaches violence. No religion preaches hatred. All

preach, peace, love, affection, prosperity, may be in different forms aiming at human welfare. This simple attempt of mine of

putting the pen on the paper is just to narrate my life journey after retirement and just to demonstrate that retirement from

service or laying down an office is not retirement from life and in the rest of the life too we can do something useful. It is

again divine design and to think that we have done something may not be appropriate thinking but one does the negative or

the positive as ordained by the Almighty. Some may agree some may not but this is my definite opinion of my life

experience. I do not know whether my life will be a guide to others or how far the narration of facts in this book would help

the society in general. However, my book on my life journey till my laying down the office, as a Judge has already been

released. This book can be taken as a further narration. I do hope that this short note of my experiences may be a simple

contribution of mine to the publishing and reading world.. (JBA Code: 169880)

84. Superintelligence - Paths, Dangers, Strategies. By Nick Bostrom, 2016 (PB). The human brain has some capabilities that

the brains of other animals lack. It is to these distinctive capabilities that our species owes its dominant position. Other

animals have stronger muscles or sharper claws, but we have cleverer brains. If machine brains one day come to surpass

human brains in general intelligence, then this new superintelligence could become very powerful. As the fate of the gorillas

now depends more on us humans than on the gorillas themselves, so the fate of our species then would come to depend on

the actions of the machine superintelligence. But we have one advantage: We get to make the first move.. (JBA Code:

South Asia for a century and a half before that. For these 300 years, conquerors and governors projected themselves as

heroes and improvers. The British public were sold an image of British authority and virtue. But beneath the veneer of pomp

and splendour, British rule in India was anxious, fragile and fostered chaos. Britains Indian empire was built by people who

107. Medical Negligence & Legal Remedies. By Anoop K.Kaushal, 4th edition, 2016 (PB). The human body remains one of the

greatest creations of Almighty on earth. Since evolution, man has endeavored to keep himself rooted with the gifts of nature

to maintain good health and longevity. But, disease and death are inevitable. Physical discomfort, disablement or death

suspected to be caused by human action or inaction creates fundamental conflicts of mutual co-existence. Jurisdictions all

over the world apply similar parameters for determination of liability in such eventful episodes of medical negligence.

134. Human Trafficking Handbook - Recognising Trafficking and Modern-Day Slavery in the UK. By Editor Parosha

Chandran, 2016 (HB). Human trafficking, along with arms dealing and the illegal drugs trade, is one of the three largest

criminal industries in the world, with an estimated $32 billion in annual profits. According to the International Labour

Organization, there are some 12.3 million people in forced labour, bonded labour and commercial sexual servitude at any

given time, of whom at least 2.4 million - including nearly 1 million children - will have been trafficked. Human trafficking

affects every country in the world and spans all sectors of the economy from brothels to sweatshops, and farms to private

homes. The trade of children for illegal adoptions, forced begging and cannabis cultivation generates massive profits for

traffickers across Europe. However, despite global recognition of this horrific phenomenon, trafficking is a highly effective

growth industry, and there remains a need for a greater level of understanding about this prolific criminal trade. This unique

collection of original essays seeks to meet that need by bringing together for the first time expert perspectives from a wide

range of key participants in the struggle against human trafficking in the United Kingdom. Edited and collated by award-

winning human rights barrister Parosha Chandran, this precedent-setting text assembles the views of specialist lawyers,

local authorities, doctors, non-governmental organisations, police officers and prosecutors as it surveys the major themes of

human trafficking, ranging from domestic servitude to sexual and labour exploitation, and also carefully examines the impact

of trafficking upon its victims. Expert legal and voluntary sector contributors explore and explain the identification, support,

protection and compensation of trafficking victims - both adult and child - and law enforcement officials offer an exclusive

insight into the investigation and prosecution of traffickers. Dedicated chapters on trafficking in Scotland and Northern

Ireland complete a UK-wide examination of the issue. The Human Trafficking Handbook is an essential anthology of opinion

and analysis written by experienced, passionate professionals who play a vital role in today's fight against modern-day

slavery. "The picture painted by the book illustrates the stark reality that, despite the important advances which have been

made in the United Kingdom in recent years, much remains to be done to respond more effectively to the threat and

consequences of human trafficking, both of which are still disturbingly real. This excellent Handbook will not only contribute

to a better understanding of the challenges presented by human trafficking but it will become an indispensable resource for

all concerned with combating this pernicious trade." (Sir Nicolas Bratza, European Court of Human Rights). (JBA Code:

Protection Act, 1986 touches every citizen, whether one has actually experienced any trial before the courts established

there under or not. The present edition is a light reader for all, with selected collection of precedents, over a broad range of

subjects, to highlight the reach of the jurisdiction. Due to the touch-screen and plastic-money convenience availed by the

consumers, there are inevitable aberrations and conflicts caused under e-commerce mode trading activity, and the book

attempts to touch the transposition of rights and liabilities under this developing domain. The publishers have retained the

digest of cases since the compilation reflects the initial genesis of findings in early years, on diverse topics, and this version

is also a connecting link between the current law, and the follow-through edition that will finally adopt the proposed

155. The Indian Parliament - Beyond the Seal and Signature of Indian Democracy. By Devender Singh, 1st Edition 2016

(HB). The Indian Parliament, Beyond the Seal and Signature of Democracy by Devender Singh, Additional Secretary, Lok

Sabha, is a new, dazzlingly insightful book dealing with the powers, functions and procedures of Parliament, elections and

electoral systems and nature and role of political parties in a parliamentary democracy. It brings in sharp relief, the intricacies

of democratic institutions, the dynamics of parliamentary government, the public perception of Parliament, the intermittent

democratic disquiet and the future of democracy itself. The book, a treasure trove of information, written in a lucid style,

brings out the finer nuances of the working of Indian Parliament, the duties of it's functionaries, its interface with other

constitutional bodies and the Fourth Estate. It's fine structural symmetry and incisively analytical approach makes it a lively

text book on the Parliament of India and a much awaited welcome addition in the field of parliamentary studies, written as it

is by one who has had a long time ring side view of the working of Indian Parliament. It's an absorbing and instructive text

book replete with historic and contemporary precedents in the parliamentary annals of India. Apparently, the author has

ransacked a wide range of parliamentary literature and woven a commendable narrative - an anthology as much an

anatomy, of the Indian democratic system. It's a compelling book for the scholars of constitutional and parliamentary studies,

the legislators, public servants, students and all those who desire to study and understand the working of the largest

democracy of the world.. (JBA Code: 169907)

served the legal profession and everyone associated with it, for over a century. Its appeal has not withered but has only

grown with the passage of time. The 27th edition of this leading commentary on the law of torts has been painstakingly

revised to include the latest judicial as well as legislative developments in the ever evolving subject of torts. It covers the

cruelty and harassment are concerned the provisions of sections 498A, 304B of Indian Penal Code and the Dowry

Prohibition Act of 1961 are basic provisions. The law itself becomes failure though not fully and it becomes necessary for

designed to meet the requirements of those connected with labour management and for ensuring compliances of labour-

related laws. It will be of great help to those who are in the field of human resource management, industrial relations and

personnel management. Efforts have been made to give the ratio of cases to enable readers to understand the implication of

various provisions keeping in view that the Industrial Disputes Act has been enacted as early as in 1947 when there were

not many industries and disputes were few. Various efforts have been made afterwards, but no effective amendment has

been made. However, the judiciary has widened the scope of Act. In addition to the above, other important enactments

relating to labour laws have also been dealt in such a manner that anyone can easily understand legal implications. The

book also includes model forms which are required by those who are either practising in labour laws or, in any way,

concerned with managing people at work and ensuring compliances. The object of this book is to promote self-learning.

authenticity and absolute accuracy. Based on original sources and scientific investigation it propounds a new thesis, which

demolishes many popular perceptions. It exonerates the intrepid warrior Babur from the charge of demolishing a temple on

the birth-site of Rama and constructing the mosque which has been a source of contention and dissension for long. It further

shows how inscriptions in the mosque were factitious and Mir Baqi of inscriptions is a fictitious person different from Baqi

207. India Conquered - Britain's Raj and the Passions of Empire. By Jon Wilson, 2016 (HB). For the century and a half before

the Second World War, Britain dominated the Indian subcontinent. Britains East India Company ruled enclaves of land in

South Asia for a century and a half before that. For these 300 years, conquerors and governors projected themselves as

heroes and improvers. The British public were sold an image of British authority and virtue. But beneath the veneer of pomp

and splendour, British rule in India was anxious, fragile and fostered chaos. Britains Indian empire was built by people who

wanted to make enough money to live well back in Britain, to avoid humiliation and danger, to put their narrow professional

expertise into practice.. (JBA Code: 169927)

208. Jihadist Threat To India - The Case for Islamic Reformation by An Indian Muslim. By Tufail Ahmed, 2016 (HB). At a

time when support to the ISIS is growing among Indian Muslims, this book will emerge as the basic text to understanding

Islamic radicalisation. It offers a profound understanding of jihadist organisations based in Pakistan and how the Pakistani

state's support to these organisations perennially undermines peace in Afghanistan and India. With this collection of

published columns and research papers the reader comes to grasp that the Arab Spring failed because of the absence of an

infrastructure of liberal ideas in Muslim societies, which also means that jihadist organisations such as the Islamic State

(ISIS) find a ready audience in countries from India to the Middle East thanks to the presence of an infrastructure of ideas

supportive of everyday Islamism in their society. While this book is relevant for Indian military officials and intelligence

analysts, the author's columns reproduced from Indian newspapers posit the idea that Indian democracy has emerged as the

best living space for Muslims in modern times. About the author: Tufail Ahmad is Director of South Asia Studies Project at

the Middle East Media Research Institute, Washington DC. He is a journalist and commentator on jihadist movements of

All events are texts to be analysed and the authors in this volume do so but

emphatically underline that Indias diplomacy under Modi has got a go-getting edge, that it is no longer foreign anymore but a

matter of public affairs and that with Modi at the helm, India is set to leverage its role and make itself a diplomatic

superpower. . (JBA Code: 169939)

backwardness not to have done so. This is the story of how this momentous change came about. The first genuinely global

history of women and the vote, it takes the story of women in politics from the earliest times to the present day, revealing

startling new connections across time and national boundaries - from Europe and North America to Asia, Africa, Latin

America and the Muslim world post-9/11. A story of individuals as well as of wider movements, it includes the often dramatic

life-stories of women's suffrage pioneers from across the world, painting vivid biographical portraits of everyone from Susan

B. Anthony and the Pankhursts to hitherto lesser-known activists in China, Latin America and Africa.. (JBA Code: 169940)

the brains of other animals lack.

(JBA Code:

266. Universal's Handbook on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Acts & Rules. By P.K. Das, 5th edition, 2016

(PB). Earlier legislations in India have given the women the powers in respective fields but particularly, so far as the torture,

cruelty and harassment are concerned the provisions of sections 498A, 304B of Indian Penal Code and the Dowry

Prohibition Act of 1961 are basic provisions. The law itself becomes failure though not fully and it becomes necessary for

enacting the Special Legislations. Perhaps these grounds and national and international bounties compelled the Indian

Government to enact the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act of 2005 and to spreadover a special legislation

on domestic violence for making restrictive provisions for erant family members for prohibiting harassment or any violence

against women and girls. Considering the various aspects of protection of women who have been legally empowered judicial

activation in respect of women this Edition has been thoroughly revised keeping in view the legal and judicial development in

protection of women from Domestic Violence.. (JBA Code: 169785)
