What is the Technology Platform? TP is a data and analytics

partnership between IFPRI and partners for assessing the role of technology investments.

TP aims to strengthenself-assessment capacity in partner organizations to support technology adoption at sub-regional and national levels.

Activities in 2016

OBJECTIVETo provide data and analytical research support for the Ministry of Agriculture in study countries to strengthen their technical self-assessment capacity for better targeting of agricultural technology investments toward the Malabo targets.

TECHNOLOGY PLATFORM

Page 7: Jawoo koo 2016 workstream 1 - technology platform case studies (sep 30)

Activities in 20161. Desktop Study: IFPRI & Partners Baseline and Targets: Current yields of major crops

at subnational level and their recent trends Feasibility Assessment: Assessing potential yield

increases from known technologies and their economics at HH level

Adoption Target: Define the required level of technology adoption for the targets and compare the technology adoption assumptions with actual adoption data surveyed from case studies

TECHNOLOGY PLATFORM

Activities in 20162. Self-Assessment Support: Partners Technical partnership to establish engagement

with in-country technical capacity for the participatory review and country buy-in.

Facilitation of the self-assessment process and scoping for support demands

Alignment with other related technical support activities in region and country

ASARECA (Moses Odeke)Improved maize variety in Uganda1. Maize yield gap and trend analysis for Malabo target2. Identifying the maize intervention area (hotspot) in

Uganda (e.g., high potential, large gaps in yield and nutrition)

3. Profile a potential technology suitable for the hotspot area and assess current and target adoption levels

4. Ex-ante bioeconomic analyses for the technology’s potential contribution to the Malabo goal

5. Communicate preliminary analyses with Ministry of Agriculture, review/revise for further self-assessments with ASARECA

TECHNOLOGY PLATFORM: PILOT STUDIES

CORAF (Kodjo Kondo)Improved rice variety in Senegal1. Rice yield gap and trend analysis for Malabo target2. Identifying the rice intervention area (hotspot) in

Senegal (e.g., high potential, large yield gap)3. Profile a potential technology suitable for the

hotspot area and assess current and target adoption levels

4. Ex-ante bioeconomic analyses for the technology’s potential contribution to the Malabo goal

5. Communicate preliminary analyses with Ministry of Agriculture, review/revise for further self-assessments with CORAF

TECHNOLOGY PLATFORM: PILOT STUDIES

CCARDESA (Baitsi Podisi)Small ruminant technology in Namibia1. Small ruminant production trend analysis relevant

for Malabo target2. Identifying the small ruminant intervention area in

Namibia (e.g., high potential, large constraints)3. Profile a potential technology suitable for the

hotspot area and assess current and target adoption levels

4. Ex-ante bioeconomic analyses for the technologies’ potential contribution to the Malabo goal

5. Communicate preliminary analyses with Ministry of Agriculture, review/revise for further self-assessments with CCARDESA
