Japanese 5

As you’ve learned in previous Levels, modern Japanese sentences are a mixture of hiragana, katakana, and kanji. In these lessons, you’ll continue to learn more kanji to strengthen your Japanese reading skills. We won’t be introducing all of the possible readings for each new kanji. A kanji dictionary will provide a complete listing of each character and its pronunciation, along with its multiple meanings.

These Reading Lessons presume that you have completed Pimsleur’s Japanese Levels 1 to 5 as well as the Reading Lessons from Levels 1 to 4.

Throughout the Reading Lessons, you will be asked to recall words and phrases from previous levels of the course. This will serve to further deepen your memory and understanding of learned vocabulary, and will continue the practice of connecting words and phrases you have already learned to new kanji. You will also be introduced to new vocabulary that you’ll be able to read based on what is taught or on the characters you have already learned. You are encouraged to repeat each Lesson as often as necessary in order to familiarize yourself with the sounds and shapes of the characters.
