Tea Ceremony Workshop in Kyoto
Started more than 1000 years ago as medicine which brought by the priest and nobleman in
Japan to the one of the world most famous cultural practice, Tea Ceremony (sadō or chadō)
is the combination of harmony, hospitality, appreciation, senses, respects, and the orders of
Japanese Culture.
Instructed by Tea Master in traditional Kimono in Kyoto where the Tea Ceremony was
born and remains its spiritual heart. Tea Ceremony is a life changing experience to have
students feel and study through the process of entering the tea house, greeting guests,
enjoying tea cup art to pouring and whisking tea powder. All need to be done through your
six senses with the highest level of concentration.
Ceramic Art Workshop in Kyoto
Ceramic art is art made from ceramic materials, including clay. It may take forms including
artistic pottery, including tableware, tiles, figurines and other sculpture. As one of the
plastic arts, ceramic art is one of the visual arts. While some ceramics are considered fine
art, as pottery or sculpture, most are considered to be decorative, industrial or applied art
objects. Ceramics may also be considered artefacts in archaeology. Ceramic art can be
made by one person or by a group of people. In a pottery or ceramic factory, a group of
people design, manufacture and decorate the art ware.
Enjoy making ceramic art during insightful pottery workshops in Kyoto. Expand your
knowledge about Japanese ceramics, deemed to be one of the oldest art forms in Japan.
This workshop makes use of a potter’s wheel and local Kyoto clay that will ultimately
produce a porcelain item you can bring home to family and friends.
Kintsugi Workshop in Kyoto
Kintsugi, which translates to Golden Joinery, is the 400-year-old Japanese art of fixing
cracked potteries and ceramics with gold-dusted lacquer. Considered to be a metaphor for
brokenness, healing, and rebirth, this ancient art form celebrates flaws and imperfections
and ultimately turn them into something beautiful.
You learn about Kintsugi and make simple repairs on one chipped pottery item and know
how to smooth out the broken area and carefully apply the golden powder and lacquer on it.
Woodblock Print Workshop in Kyoto
Woodblock printing (or block printing) is a technique for printing text, images or patterns
used widely throughout East Asia and originating in China in antiquity as a method
of printing on textiles and later paper. As a method of printing on cloth, the earliest
surviving examples from China date to before 220 AD. Woodblock printing existed
in Tang China during the 7th century AD and remained the most common East Asian
method of printing books and other texts, as well as images, until the 19th century. Ukiyo-
e is the best-known type of Japanesewoodblock art print. Most European uses of the
technique for printing images on paper are covered by the art term woodcut, except for
the block-books produced mainly in the 15th century in India.
