We make resolutions: “I will do this in the new year,” or “I won’t be doing that anymore.” And whether or not any of those resolu- tions actually stick, there’s still something hopeful about this time of year. We go in to January with hope that this year things will be different. Now, we don’t know what the future holds. 2017 could be every bit as frustrating as 2016. Regardless, we start every new year in hope for what the future holds. I guess my point in all of this is… don’t give up that “new year” hope. Because hope is an incredibly powerful thing. We just got through our celebration of Christmas, the celebration of the Christ child, Emmanuel, God with us. Christ is our light in the darkness. Christ is our ultimate hope… the hope that all matter of pain and suffering and struggle will be overcome. Christ is a hope that says no matter how dark today is, God is with us, and we have the promise of a better tomorrow, even if that “tomorrow” isn’t actually tomorrow. If you, like me, find yourself looking back on 2016 and saying to your- self “good riddance” and “bring on the new year,” don’t let that new year hope go. And if you find yourself looking back on 2016 with fondness, celebrate in your joy and hope that tomorrow is just as bright. Hope is the most powerful weapon we have against the brokenness of the world. As Christians, our hope is in Christ… who walks with us each and everyday… who cries with us in our sorrow, and celebrates with us in our joy. May the hope that is Christ ac- company you each and every day, and may you never let that hope go. And may the peace of Christ, which passes all understanding, guide your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Happy New Year!! ~Pastor Karen From Pastor Karen

VOLUME 17 ISSUE 1

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great

mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrec-

tion of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that is imperish-

able, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who are being pro-

tected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed

in the last time.” – 1 Peter 1:3-5

If I’m being honest, I will not be sad to have 2016 in my rear-view mir-

ror. To say it’s been a rough year would be an understatement. And even

though I know that transitioning to a new year is completely arbitrary (we

made up the calendar system, after all), every new year it feels like the oppor-

tunity for a fresh start. We make resolutions: “I will do this in the new year,”

or “I won’t be doing that anymore.” And whether or not any of those resolu-

tions actually stick, there’s still something hopeful about this time of year. We

go in to January with hope that this year things will be different.

Now, we don’t know what the future holds. 2017 could be every bit as

frustrating as 2016. Regardless, we start every new year in hope for what the

future holds. I guess my point in all of this is… don’t give up that “new year”

hope. Because hope is an incredibly powerful thing. We just got through our

celebration of Christmas, the celebration of the Christ child, Emmanuel, God

with us. Christ is our light in the darkness. Christ is our ultimate hope… the

hope that all matter of pain and suffering and struggle will be overcome.

Christ is a hope that says no matter how dark today is, God is with us, and we

have the promise of a better tomorrow, even if that “tomorrow” isn’t actually

tomorrow.

If you, like me, find yourself looking back on 2016 and saying to your-

self “good riddance” and “bring on the new year,” don’t let that new year hope

go. And if you find yourself looking back on 2016 with fondness, celebrate in

your joy and hope that tomorrow is just as bright. Hope is the most powerful

weapon we have against the brokenness of the world. As Christians, our hope

is in Christ… who walks with us each and everyday… who cries with us in

our sorrow, and celebrates with us in our joy. May the hope that is Christ ac-

company you each and every day, and may you never let that hope go.

And may the peace of Christ, which passes all understanding, guide

your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Happy New Year!!
