Fox Run Membership,
Season’s Greetings and I hope this message finds all of you well and
enjoying the new year. This letter is to update all members on the
admission tax question. After further review and counsel from our
accountants, tax attorney and the state of South Carolina, it is the
decision of the Board to start charging the 5% admission tax on
monthly dues and range fees. The Board appreciates your patience and
understanding as we investigated Fox Run Country Club’s status and tax
obligations.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Great Golfing in 2018!

FR Cup Scoring System No matter whether the tournament is an individual event or a team event, you divide the
number of teams or individuals into a 100. Then you take that number and it is the number of points the last place team or individual is awarded. From there you take that number and
double it for the next ranked team. For example: if you have 20 teams playing in the tournament, you will divide 20 into 100 and that produces 5 points for the 20th place team.
From that point you would rank all 20 teams according to their NET SCORE and double the first teams points and continue with the points difference per team as they move up the rankings. So 20th place will receive 5 points, 19th will receive 10 points, 18th 15 points, etc. until you get
to the first place team, that receives 100 points for the event. Also all teams/individuals will receive 50 points for participation no matter where they finish in the rankings. Keep in mind for
the FR Cup scoring system there are no flights, its everyone against everyone. By using this scoring system you will eliminate "the luck of the draw" as determining which flight you are in
which could ultimately affect the number of points a team/player is awarded for FR Cup purposes. In implementing this points system it is the tournament committees purpose to make
the awarding of FR Cup points as fair as possible to all players. An adjustment to this years scoring is that any tournament with guests involved will be a participation points only
tournament for the members involved. This will insure that all players make the FR Cup on their own and not by bringing in guests that help that cause. We are VERY EXCITED about this years
Cup so do not hesitate to get involved in the tournaments.

Fox Run Clubhouse Painting
While we are closed for the cold we are having the clubhouse walls, doors, door jams, etc. painted.
As well the windows, window frames, doors and door jams on the
outside of the building will get painted as weather permits
Reminder! Every Friday Evening
Please Fill Your Divot and One More We are experiencing a lot of divots NOT BEING FILLED.
PLEASE FILL YOUR DIVOT AND ONE MORE. LEAVE THE COURSE BETTER THAN WHEN YOU WERE
THERE FOR THE NEXT PERSON. As we head into winter and the turf is going dormant, it
is very important that we fill all divots made while playing. We encourage all players to fill their divot and at least one more. Sand is provided on the carts and more
bottles are at the turn for refilling. As well each Par 3 box has sand that can be used to fill divots made on the tee
box. The Par 3 tees take a pretty good beating by winters end. Let’s fill those divots and keep the course heading
the right direction.

Music & Phones on Course
Recently it was brought to our attention that
people are playing music overly loud while on
the course.
We wanted to put a note out to everyone and
ask for your cooperation for other golfers and
keep the music to a minimum volume level. We
are not asking you to turn it off all together but
again we are asking for your cooperation and
think of others while on the course.
As well many of our members use their phones
while on the course, please be courteous in
your use of the phone. Keep it on vibrate and if
it is necessary to talk on your phone then
please walk off from the group to take your
call.
We appreciate your attention to this very
important matter

Grounds Maintenance
The entire grounds department would like to extend a Happy
Holidays wish to all of the members and their guests. As well,
we would like to express our gratitude for the end of year staff
gratuity and as well the cookies from the Ladies Golf
association, yum. We appreciate it tremendously. As for the
grounds, we are working on winter maintenance on all vehicles,
We as well will continue to clean up debris from stump removal
and continue to remove any dead or damaged trees throughout
this next few months. We are now on the three pin system on
the greens and they will be switched monthly. I would again like
to say Happy New Year from all of us here in Maintenance and
we look forward to a great 2018.
The committee had a spirited discussion about the USGA Tee it Forward initiative implemented
in 2016. After our discussion, here is what the committee is implementing for 2018. In 2018 for
tournaments only, Fox Run Country Club will keep the current age restrictions where tees are
concerned. Those conditions are:
Blue Tees Men Age 54 and under
White Tees Men Age 55 to 69
Gold Tees Men Age 70 and up
Red Tees Men Age 80 and up/Ladies
The Committee also implemented an ability provision that says, “Any member with a
handicap index of 12.0 or above as of December 1st of 2017 can move up one tee box.
If your handicap is now less than 12.0 on December 1, 2017 and it was above 12.0 on
December 1st, 2016 which allowed you to move forward one teeing ground, you must now
move back to your original tee that allows for age but not moving forward because of
handicap allocations.
Ex. a player that moved forward a teeing ground for 2017 tournaments because the his
handicap on December 1st 2016 was 12.9 but now has a handicap index of 11.4 on
December 1st, 2017 would now have to move back to play the tees for his age in
tournaments.
All members who wish to move forward and are eligible, must notify the golf shop by January 1,
2017 as to which tee boxes they intend to play from for the coming year.
Members playing with other groups (552, Seniors, etc.) their respective tees will be administered
by their regular group. The above teeing rules are for Fox Run Country Club Tournaments Only.
Information Needed!! We would like everyone to please stop in the golf shop and make sure the information we
have for you on file i.e. phone numbers, address, email etc. is up
to date. We would like to make sure all members are receiving the information on tournaments,
upcoming events, etc.
Hole In One Club for 2018

Explanation: The way this works is when a member of the Hole in One
Club gets a verifiable hole in one in a club tournament, each member of
the club is then billed $5.00. This in turn will cover the expenses for the
day (if you know what I mean) for the person making a hole in one.
If interested, please let us know in the golf shop asap.
We have 55 people in the club so far!! Do not wait Get in today!!

"The Buyer’s Club
Dear Fox Run Country Club Member,
The ability to vote, have a voice, is an important role that citizens have.
Fox Run members have a choice, to be involved with the business of the club by owning a share
of stock and participating in voting on club business, or not owning stock and not having a
voice. To encourage participation and involvement in the Fox Run Country Club the Board of
Directors invites the members to purchase a share of stock in the club so you can vote at the
annual meeting for the Board of Directors. Additionally, stock holding members are eligible to
run for a Board of Directors position after two years of stock ownership and being a member in
good standing.
Right now a share of stock costs $360.00. The share of stock comes with the right to vote at the
Annual Meeting in April. The only way to have a voice is to vote. Exercise your right. Effective
immediately any stock purchase will come with the additional benefit of membership in the
BUYERS CLUB program. This program provides large discounts on purchases in the Pro Shop for
clubs, balls, shoes, remote golf carts and apparel.
Going forward the Buyers Club will only be open to stock holding Fox Run members.
Effective January 1, 2018 through March 3st, 2018, a $300.00 membership price will be
available for members who purchase a share immediately and membership in the Buyer’s Club
will be automatically activated. As well another option, members may choose to make 12
monthly payments of $30.00 in addition to their monthly bill for a total of $360.00. At the end
of the 12 payment program the member will get a share of stock, voting rights and membership
in the BUYERS CLUB. If you want to vote in the upcoming Board Member election this April
2018 we encourage you to purchase a share at the discounted $300.00 share price (which
includes instant Buyers Club membership).
Fox Run is a special place. The members of the different groups, the 552, Ladies, Seniors,
Players and Juniors all contribute to the dynamic that makes this club unique and a great value.
Our Pro David Fels and his staff work hard to make the member experience the best possible.
The club relies on the membership to help grow and flourish. If you’re a new member and don’t
own a share of stock this is a great time to get involved and have your voice heard. If you’re a
longtime member and don’t own stock, now is a perfect time to become more involved. We
encourage all members to own stock and vote. We appreciate your consideration regarding this
matter.
Sincerely,
Henry Stephens
Membership Committee Chairman
Rule of the Month, Rule 18
To Replace or Not!
Of the many Rules a golfer must adhere to on the course, Rule 18 can be particularly difficult. When a
ball is moved, other than by a stroke, the player must know when to replace the ball or play it as it
lies. Playing the ball as it lies when a Rule requires it to be replaced or vice versa will result in a penalty
for playing from a wrong place. In a slight variation from the true/false quiz, your task is to determine
if the ball must be replaced or played as it lies in each of the following situations. Good Luck.
The Questions:
1. While helping to search for a player’s ball, a spectator accidentally steps on the ball pushing it deeper
into the grass.
2. A player addresses his ball and it moves due to the club pressing down grass behind the ball.
3. After lifting his ball from the putting green and cleaning it, the player replaces the ball but leaves his ball
marker behind the ball. He walks to the other side of the hole to assess the slope and his ball begins to
move due to gravity and the slope of the green coming to rest closer to the hole.
4. The player’s ball is at rest in the fairway. He makes a practice swing and accidentally moves the ball.
5. A player is searching for his ball in a bush and moves a branch causing the ball to fall.
6. After an approach shot to the green, a neighborhood dog runs across the green and moves the player’s
ball that was at rest.
7. A player’s ball at rest is moved by another ball in motion.
8. On a stormy afternoon, a player addresses his ball on the putting green and a gust of wind blows the
ball to a new location.
9. On a calm day a player addresses his ball. After address, it rolls away from the hole due to the slope of
the green.
10. After a drop for relief from a water hazard, the player’s ball comes to rest in a spot not requiring a re-
drop. As he is returning to his bag to retrieve a club, the ball begins to roll and re-enters the water
hazard.
The Answers:
1. Replace. In this case the ball has been moved by an outside agency and it must be replaced with no
penalty to the player. The fact that the movement was vertical is irrelevant. When replacing, if the ball
will not remain at rest in its previous location it must be placed in the nearest location where it will
remain at rest. This could be directly below its original location.
2. Replace. Rule 18-2b states that once a player addresses the ball and it moves he is deemed to have
caused the movement and incurs a one stroke penalty. He must replace the ball to its original
position. Failure to replace when required to under Rule 18 moves the penalty from one stroke to two.
3. Play it as it lies. Once the ball was replaced and at rest it is in play regardless if the ball marker is
removed. As the player did nothing to cause his ball to move he must play his next stroke from the
ball’s new location. If the ball had rolled down the slope and into the hole he is deemed to have holed
out with his previous stroke. (Decision 20-4/1)
4. Replace. As the player had no intention to move his ball in play he has not made a stroke but has
incurred a penalty of one stroke under Rule 18-2 and must replace the ball.
5. Replace. In this situation the player has caused his ball to move and has incurred a one stroke penalty
under Rule 18-2a and he must replace the ball. However, if he declares the ball unplayable, he does
not need to replace and may proceed under any of the options of Rule 28 (Ball Unplayable) incurring an
additional penalty stroke for a total of two. (Decision 20-3a/3)
6. Replace. The ball has been moved by an outside agency and it must be replaced. If the exact spot on
the green is not known, it must be estimated and the ball placed on that spot. If this happens in the
fairway and the spot is not known, the ball must be dropped as near as possible to the estimated spot
not nearer the hole.
7. Replace. The ball at rest that was moved must be replaced while the ball in motion is played as it lies
after the deflection. See Rules 18-5 and 19-5.
8. Play it as it lies. In 2012, an exception to Rule 18-2b was added that absolves the player from penalty
if it is known or virtually certain that the player did not cause the ball to move after addressing it. In this
case, the wind caused the ball to move and although the player had addressed the ball he incurs no
penalty and must play the ball as it lies. See the following answer for further information regarding this
new exception.
9. Replace. If gravity or the slope of the green causes the ball to move after the player addresses the ball
he is deemed to have caused his ball to move and must replace the ball with a one stroke
penalty. Gravity may not be used when applying the exception noted in Answer #8. It must be known
or virtually certain that some agency caused the ball to move. Examples include wind, water, an animal
or another ball in motion. However, only in the case of wind or water would the ball be played as it
lies. In other cases, the Rule applicable to the agency involved would govern and the ball must be
replaced. See Rule 18-2b.
10. Play it as it lies. Once a dropped ball comes to rest and subsequently moves it must be played as it
lies. In this case, the player may either play it as it lies or once again take relief under Rule 26 for a ball
in a water hazard incurring a second one stroke penalty for the relief.
