A.L.S.I. You have made it. Wow! 25 years of success with an involved accordion music club in San Di-ego. So many peoplehave been present at c l u b m e e t i n g s through the years. Musicians, students of the accordion, listen-ers, dancers and fami-ly have been support-ive of A.L.S.I. activities
They attend our pic-nics, concerts, show-cases and other fun gatherings. It has been great for me to see new people wishing to join our accordion club. Tell your friends and mu-sicians near and far about our great group and all its ac-tivities.
I hope that you can be at our special January 12th meet-ing. Member accor-dionists will play open microphone from 1 to 2 p.m. Then a very enjoya-ble break time with special refreshments will be served to commemorate the club’s 25th anniver-sary.

The December 8, 2013 ALSI meeting was held with tables indoors for our break time. It was cold!! Thanks to Russell Camp & Custodian, Bob for setting us up inside –Bob has to bring in several tables in order to do this. The Village has lots of Holiday/Christmas decorations up, especially pretty was the tree by the cafeteria, made from poinsettia plants. Players around the Village were: Cafeteria – Vicki Eriqat, Crider –Jerry Odling, Brandel – Steve Halpern. Bill Barr was the MC for the day. Jack Ma-rotte was on the sound board. We had 15 players plus the Ensemble that played so I will try to be brief with each person.
� -Al Cerutti & Terry are back from Thunder Bay, Canada. It was so good to
have them back at ALSI. Al played O Ho-ly Night.
� -Erika Baier impressed us as she sang several songs in German: O Tannebaum, O du froehliche weihnachtszeil, Still, Still, Kling Gloecklein, the Kinderlein Kommet, Leiserieselt der Schnee and Stille Nacht to name a few. I do not think I spelled some of these songs correctly – OOPS.
� -Al Jacobs once again amazed us with his vast memory of songs: Dredle, The Christ-mas song and Sound of Music Medley. Vic-ki Eriqat had a hand held mike and sang along.
� -Margarita Romero played for us: An-gel’s We have Heard on High, Carnival of Venice. She gets better all the time!!
� -Juergen Rosenfeld with his authentic German outfit &Hohner, played a medley of songs: Joy to the World, White Christ-mas, Noel, Jingle Bells, O Tannenbaum, The Kinderlein Kommet, Suber die Glock-en nie Klingen, Silent Night, to name a few.
� -Carlos Meneses – a beginner player, played Joy to the World, Silent Night & O
Christmas Tree. Keep practicing, Carlos.� -Farrie Ann Nichols with her doggie as
her companion, played Happy Birthday, Je-sus, Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer & the Merry Christmas polka.

� Gordon Kohl paid tribute to Miriana Ferino and presented her with an Honor-ary LifeTime Membership certificate. Elec-tions were held with a show of hands –
Mary Lou Erwin was voted in as Vice President & Sharon Marotte was voted in as Recording Secretary.
� Break time - cookies & hot apple cider/coffee were served. Thanks to everyone who brought cookies and goodies to share. There weren’t many things left. We left a small box of cookies for Bob, the custodi-an. Jane Ford, Mary Lou Erwin & Sha-ron Marotte served the cider. Several folks helped clean up afterwards!!!
� -The Ensemble set up during the break and were ready to go after the break. Their songs: Jingle Bell Rock, Rocking around the Christmas Tree, Silver & Gold, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Silent Night, Beer Barrel. Vicki Eriqat directed the Ensemble and led singing from the audi-ence.
� -Ted Hill played March of the Toys &
Babes in Toyland. Good job, Ted!� -Lois Lahoud & Jane Ford – this duo
played piano & accordion. They had a little trouble hearing each other but did just fine. Their songs: Are you washed in the Blood, Amazing Grace & Joy to the World.
� -Russell Camp played songs from Guate-mala & Ecuador. There is a song that rings out, In the night the Shepherds watched, & Come Shepherds. These songs were writ-ten by several South American composers – ask Russell, it is very interesting.
� -Bob Warner & Gordon Kohl played Jingle Bell Rock & White Christmas. What a fantastic duet team!!
� -Joe Colombo is man with many hats. Today he wore a red santa hat. His songs were Santa Lucia, Silver & Gold and Jingle Bells.
� -Linda Hibbert played her concerto –Mark Hibbert helps her bring in and set up her electronic equipment. Linda played Jesu Joy of Mans Desiring, Sleigh Ride and Russian Dance, arranged by Rena Watton.
� -Gordon Kohl closed out the day with several songs which were happy and joyful–Gordon likes to play songs that tell a story. Once again, we had a fun time playing Holi-
day/Christmas songs. Most folks had their pic-tures taken by the tree in Bailey Hall. It was so good to see Merle Williams at ALSI. Maybe he will play his accordion for us again some day. —

Chuck was born in Detroit Michigan to a Polish American family. This heritage inspired him to take an early interest in the accordion. He began to take lessons on the accordion at the young age of 8 years old. He continued his studies into his teen years and, as an advanced student, he took a keen interest in the CORDOVOX accordion. With this instrument he developed a strong talent for managing orchestral and accordion sounds from the accordion’s features. He later became an owner of a Concerto accordion which allowed him to take his talents even farther in that direc-tion. He now performs widely from his home in Sarasota Florida. He has entertained many types of audiences which include: numerous appearances at the Las Vegas International Accordion Con-vention; National Accordion Convention in Texas; the Silicon Valley Accordion Society; the San Francisco Accordion Club and numerous weddings and ethnic organizations. His repertoire in-cludes many genres such as; polkas, Italian favorites, Polish music, Latin music and big band music. Chuck is a professional accordionist who has been featured often playing his Concerto Digital Ac-cordion. He plays a variety of music accompanied with back-up instrumental tracks and drum rhythms with his music. His varied program should entertain all. —

Phil and Alene were living in St. Augustine Florida when he passed away this last Novem-ber at the age of 89. He was a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and loved his family very much. He was an avid golfer, dog lover and an accordion musician of many years. He enjoyed life, loved people, and those he met knew he had a genuine interest in them. In 2012 he and his wife Alene left California to live with his family in Florida. He had been an active member in ALSI for many years and was also a member of the ALSI Ensemble. Mem-bers of this club were greatly saddened by the news of his passing. Condolences and sympa-thy are extended to Alene and his family.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Alene and six children, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A Mass of Chris-tian Burial was held on November 30, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Historical Catholic Church in Jack-sonville Florida.
