January - March Newsletter January 2016

Greetings in 2016!We hope that this newsletter finds each of you

in good health, quilting and ready for 2016! We are preparing for 2016 although the year has gotten started before I was ready, but then that is not surprising to those of you that know me.

Looking back through 2015, the year has been exciting with the shop expansion and remodel, but difficult with Samantha struggling to recover from her surgeries from two years ago. I do believe that she is on the mend. She is coming on as staff at the shop. She will be coordinating the computer system & on line store. Of course she loves to teach and quilt, so she will automatically be doing those things!!

We have lots of classes that we hope will interest you, expand your quilting skills and be fun!We already have some special events planned for the year, see details to follow! Remodel continues in the shop and classroom, stay tuned!

We are looking forward to another year of quilting, designing and and friendship, with you!

This class is designed for the student who is not sure if they will like quilting and do not want to invest in all

the tools, machine and fabric until they know they will like quilting! (like anyone could not like quilting!)

In this class the you will make a pillow. You do not need to bring anything to class, except for

yourself ready to have some fun. You will choose your fabrics for your pillow, and then you will be ready to

make a quilted pillow!!

Progressive Quilt Series:This has become a very popular class at Paw Patch.

Our focus in this series of classes is to help that quilter who wants to, improve their quilting skills and

continue to receive specialized attention.I individualize these classes according to the students in class. I will tailor each class to the students wishes

and needs.

This is a progression of quilting series, each class builds upon the previous class skills.....

Progressive I- Beginning Quilting

This class is designed to teach foundational skills and techniques for either a beginning quilter, self taught

quilter, or the quilter that wants a refresher. We make a small project (table runner) that is completed by the end of class. Many basics will be taught: picking

fabrics, cutting, piecing, tools, quilting, binding etc...7 Sessions

Tuesdays. February 2, 9, 16, 23, March 1, 8, 15.From 2-5pm

Progressive II-No Picture

This class focuses on advancing piecing skills. We will make a lap quilt with straight setting blocks, sashings

Progressive III-This next class in the series continues to build on skill

levels. In this class we teach on- point settings and continue to work on piecing skills with more advanced blocks. We teach how to use a setting triangle ruler.

Progressive IV-This class will focus on piecing with templates, which allows for exact

piecing skills. This is an on-point quilt with

sashings and mitered borders. Mitered borders

are easy to make when you know how to make correctly and they will

give your projects such a nice finish.8 Sessions

Progressive V-This quilt focuses on scalloped edges and piping. Two techniques that are so easy to put into all quilts and that just give quilts an extra pop! We will also teach how to

make your own templates for quilt blocks.

Free motion QuiltingBeginning free motion quilting is a great place to

begin to start quilting your own quilt tops. This class is designed to teach students the technique of free

motion quilting and how to trouble shoot while quilting. Subsequent classes will teach specific

This is our 2015 version of Amish Shop Hop quilt.

We used the always popular Kansas Trouble

fabrics from Moda. There is a beautiful Amish

theme panel that we used in our quilt. If you do not like the panel, a quilt block can easily be substituted.

This quilt is so incredibly simple, but stunning.

Farmer's Wife- 1930

Featuring real-life letters from The Farmer's Wife magazine, Laurie Aaron Hird's new book

commemorates the strength and hope of the farm women of the Great Depression. The 99-block queen-

size sampler quilt inspired by these letters uses reproduction 1930s fabrics.

Of course you may use your fabrics of choice for this wonderful project.

We will be offering the option to cut blocks using Marti Michell's templates, which allows for accuracy and

speed.Another addition to our Farmer's Wife class is that we

will be using a finishing design that actually uses 3 different size blocks, so we will be learning to draft

some blocks into different sizes. Of course you are free to make the blocks as drafted in the book

Another Paw Patch class that is going to be chuck full of skills!

We will be working on approximately 6 blocks per month. We will definitely cut in class and discuss piecing. As the blocks get more difficult we may

switch and sew in class?
