We hope you enjoyed your winter break and are rested and rejuvenated for the work ahead. Fall Book Fair Earnings In November we held our Fall Bookfair at the University Book Store. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported Salmon Bay. Together we raised over $1,500 which Linda, our school librarian, will use to purchase new books and resources. Volunteer Opportunities We have lots of exciting activities on the horizon and need lots of volunteers to make them possible. WEP: Once snow comes to the mountains, our middle school students will be heading out on their various WEP activities. We still need several morning volunteers to help direct traffic and drop off on WEP mornings. We also need drivers to take the PNW Explored students on their various hikes and bike rides. If you can help with these needs, please contact Kristina . TOURS: School tours start this month. There are daytime (9am) tours on January 27th and February 11th and and an evening tour (6pm/7pm) on February 24th. We need elementary and middle school parent volunteers to guide tour guests around and answer their questions. If you are willing to help with tours, please contact Jodi (elementary) or Kristina (middle school). PAINTING: We want to use the time between semesters to make progress on our school beautification efforts. Please join us on Saturday, January 31st from 8 am to noon as we paint middle school math classrooms and elementary classroom entrances. If you are available to attend, please email Jodi . Please welcome MelissaHayes back to SalmonBay! Melissa was ourlunchroom manager lastyear, moved to anotherschool this past fall, andis happy to be given anopportunity to return.Melissa has been aSalmon Bay parent since2010. She has a 6th gradedaughter who attends SB

and a son who is now a 9th grader at Ballard HighSchool. Melissa is originally from NorthernCalifornia and has lived in Seattle for 8 years.Prior to that, she lived in England for 12 yearswith her English husband. These days Melissamostly enjoys watching her daughter perform inmusicals, reading novels and watching Britishcomedy on the telly.

After School Program NEW Winter ASP Class AddedThe Winter 2015 ASP has added a BeginningSpanish Class for Grades K­2nd. Theinstructor, Sebastián Grynberg, is both anexperienced Spanish teacher and a Salmon Bayparent. Classes will meet twice a week on Mondaysand Wednesdays from 3:20 to 4:20pm, from Jan.12th until March 11th. These classes will take placein Nicolette's classroom (Room 215). Theregistration fee for this class is $210. Please emailMindy or drop off your registration form and paymentin the Volunteer Coordinator office by Monday,January 12th if you would like to register. Elementary Yearbook NewsSherry Jaqua is starting to put the Elementary Schoolyearbook together and wants to compile one page of schoolportraits and one page of candid shots for each class. If youhave photos to share, please contact Sherry and she will passalong instructions for uploading your photos. Camera photosare best but phone photos iwth a resolution of 300 dpi alsowork.

Legislative Focus Day 2015 Based on its own testimony in the McCleary Decision, theamount with which the State of Washington should be fundingSalmon Bay for the current school year is over $1,000,000less than what it should be.Absent our input, during the upcoming legislative session,state legislators will hear more about transportation andspecial interest tax breaks than they will about fixingeducation funding.
