Camp Open House | June 21, 2020 Girls in Grades K-12 Come out to camp this Father’s Day to enjoy our summer activities and learn about camp! You will have an opportunity to take a tour of camp and meet the staff, while enjoying the rockwall, pool, horses, archery, arts and crafts, hamburgers, hot dogs and more! Where: Camp Conowingo Cost: $5 per person except dads, who get in free! Whether you’re a first-time camper or a veteran seeking new adventures, you’ll find fun, friendship and memories to last a lifetime at Girl Scout summer camp. Camp Conowingo offers a wide variety of camp options for all girls that include themed specialty activities as well as traditional crafts, songs, and campfires. Girl Scout camps feature unique leadership opportunities where girls build 21st century life skills that help them become leaders of tomorrow. They discover how to be independent and self-reliant, connect with others individually and as a team and learn ways to take action to protect the planet’s natural resources. Girl Scouts is proud to be the premier leadership organization for girls in our country. Girl Scouts of Central Maryland and Camp Conowingo are open to ALL girls who are recognized by the family and school/ community and who live culturally as a girl. Should any girl requiring special accommodations wish to attend summer resident camp, GSCM recommends that the parent/guardians reach out to Camp Director, Kelly Campbell ([email protected]), so that accommodations, similar to those employed at schools across the country in regard to changing, sleeping arrangements, and other travel-related activities, can be made. You Can’t do THAT at Camp! Session 1 Enjoy summer the right way with a week full of movies, songs, late nights, yoga and pizza delivered to you at camp! Of course, you’ll also want to participate in some of the activities you CAN do at camp—like crafts, swimming, canoeing, archery and challenging yourself on our new aerial ropes course. It’s your choice because this week, you CAN do that at camp!

Amusement Park Overload Session 1 Spend Sunday relaxing at Camp Conowingo before traveling to Camp Whippoorwill, your temporary home base for your excursion to the Adventure Park at Sandy Springs and then Six Flags! On Wednesday you’ll head to Hershey Park for an overnight camp-out. On Thursday you'll spend the day enjoying all the fun the park offers. But the fun doesn’t stop there! On Thursday evening you’ll return to Camp Conowingo and enjoy all-camp activities that night! $575 before February 13 $615 after February 13

Guppy Gulch Session 1, 3 & 6 Enjoy spending your days at the Gulch trying extreme water activities like riding the kayak luge, snorkeling with aquatic life, zip lining into the beautiful quarry water, climbing the floating wall and tons more. Then, spend your night at the Gulch relaxing with your group and preparing for the next day’s adventures. When your trip is over, come back to Camp Conowingo and enjoy your favorite traditional camp activities!

Insomniacs Session 2 – Mini Week

Explore the Conowingo nightlife by setting up camp at Hemlock Knoll. Try a midnight cookout, take a night hike, watch movies outside under the stars and enjoy twilight swimming. You’re going to be up almost all night, so be prepared! You can watch the sunrise and then hop into bed to snooze! $350 before February 13 $375 after February 13

G.A.R.C. Shenandoah National Park Session 3 Spend the first night at Conowingo preparing for your week-long excursion. In the morning you’ll head off for a week of adventures in Shenandoah National Park! Spend the day exploring the mountains and forests and return to your site to cook your meals and sing around the campfire. Before heading back to Conowingo, you'll enjoy the spectacular underground views of Luray Caverns. $505 before February 13 $540 after February 13

My Choice Session 3 During this week, you and your new friends will create your own schedule based on everything Conowingo has to offer. What will your adventure include-- archery, rockwall climbing, canoeing, campfires? It’s your choice! $465 before February 13 $490 after February 13

Risky Business Session 4 Ready for a week of high-flying adventures? Start your day with team building activities on our low ropes course. Have fun climbing the rock wall. Conquer our new aerial high ropes course and zip line by learning how to belay, and tie figure eight and bowline knots. Take a break from the high adventure by relaxing at the pool and creating something cool at arts & crafts. $475 before February 13 $505 after February 13

Cowgirls Under the Stars Session 4 Calling all cowgirls! Demonstrate your ability to saddle a horse and ride in the corral area. You will then explore the beautiful trails of Camp Conowingo on horseback. Spend time reviewing and learning horse facts, first aid and horse care in workshops. When you are not on horseback, you will have time for swimming, arts, nature exploration and sports! You must have documented riding experience for this session. $475 before February 13 $505 after February 13

Janky Jurassic Session 4 Become a dinosaur expert as you spend your week at camp learning about Maryland’s dinosaurs. We will visit a Dinosaur Park, go to the Smithsonian Natural History Museum and visit Calvert Cliffs to look for fossils. While on the hunt, Camp Woodlands will be your base camp. When your travels are complete, you’ll spend all day Thursday enjoying activities at Camp Conowingo. $505 before February 13 $540 after February 13

Sow What! Session 5 Start your week learning about the food network and begin building a greenhouse at Camp Conowingo. You will plant herbs and vegetables then explore camp for wild edibles such as raspberries and blackberries. Down the road from camp, you will tour an organic farm and visit local Amish farms and farm stands. As you visit and tour these areas, you will pick produce to prepare and cook. Along the way, you will be working on the It’s Your Planet-Love It! Journey.

Theater in the Woods Session 5 Dress up for an evening at the Dutch Apple Theater and watch a performance of one of your favorite Disney princesses - The Little Mermaid. Back at camp, perform your own mini play at the Creativity Show! Take a break from play practice to enjoy the great outdoors and other camp activities.

Conowingo Wizarding Academy Session 6 Ready to continue your wizarding studies with your fellow magicians? Make your wand (only after the wood has chosen you!) and participate in wizard duels. Perfect your potion creations, take your team to the Quidditch championship or maybe try your hand at Gobstones or Wizard’s Chess. Don’t forget your invisibility cloak! $455 before February 13 $485 after February 13

Generation Next! Session 6

During this adventure-bound session you will hike a portion of the Appalachian Trail. To get a taste of this legendary backpacking experience, you will spend the first day going over maps and preparing your gear for a trip into the Shenandoah National Park. Head out the next morning for 3 days of hiking past waterfalls, over mountain vistas and through beautiful oak forests while learning about wilderness survival. (This program involves a strenuous and physically demanding hike.)

Outdoor Explorer Session 7 Spend an action-packed, fun-filled week at Camp Conowingo where you will have a chance to work on the Adventurer and Ultimate Challenge recreation badges. Spend the day on our new aerial ropes course, go on an overnight hike, spend time at the stables and even go on an all-day caving trip!

Gone Glamping Session 7 Relaxation and pampering are the theme of this week that turns your unit into a camp spa. Relax with soothing music, learn about healthy eating, make natural beauty products, enjoy floating in the pool, writing in your journal and unwinding with yoga. You will also be able to spend time enjoying traditional camp activities like nature hikes and campfires. $450 before February 13 $480 after February 13

Girl Power! Session 8

Spend a week showing how girls do it best! Show off your competitive side by playing sports, building and running obstacle courses in the woods and crushing trivia night. You’ll have time to try archery and enjoy many other camp activities and, take time to relax by chilling at the pool. $455 before February 13 $485 after February 13

River Runners Session 8 During this week of river excursions in Harpers Ferry, you’ll test your limits on a camping and river adventure! Start the week tubing, embark on a guided kayak trip and culminate the excursion with a whitewater rafting trip! Afterwards, it’s back to Conowingo for the all-camp activity on Thursday night. $545 before February 13 $575 after February 13

Seniors & Ambassadors

Girl ScoutSeniors & AmbassadorsGirl Scouts’ days will be split into sessions and girls will rotate through activity sessions as a group. In addition to their program theme activity, girls will have the opportunity to experience core camp activities like swimming, arts and crafts, campfires, nature exploration and more. Each camper will be sent home with information about badge and Journey-related activities she completed during the week.

Riding CampSessions 3, 5 & 7 | For girls in grades 4-12

At Riding Camp, girls will experience the joy and adventure of English horseback riding in a safe and comfortable environment under the supervision of Camp Conowingo’s equestrian staff. For more information about Riding Camp, contact [email protected]

CIT I: Counselor in Training I Sessions 3 & 4

As a CIT I, you'll develop your skills as a leader and future camp staff member as you learn to facilitate camp activities, work with younger campers and just have FUN! Girls will earn their First Aid/CPR certification and CIT I pins. Note: This is a two-week program; participants will go home over the weekend.

CIT II: Counselor in Training II Sessions 5, 6, 7, & 8 You will work directly with a camp counselor on developing programming ideas, facilitate specialized camp activities and share your knowledge while working with other CITs. During your 4-week stay, you will also have the opportunity to visit and stay at another Girl Scout camp to learn how they run their program. Girls will earn their CIT II pins. Note: This is a four-week program; participants will go home over the weekends. Girls must complete an application and provide references. $765

WIT I: Wrangler in Training I Sessions 3 & 4

Get the chance to work behind the scenes at the Camp Conowingo stables with our horse staff. Wranglers-in-Training must have documented experience riding and caring for horses. Only girls with written documentation should apply. Note: This is a two-week program; participants will go home over the weekend. $665

WIT II: Wrangler in Training II Sessions 5, 6, 7 & 8 As a WIT II, you will work directly with the equestrian staff in every aspect of the horse program including horse maintenance, teaching girls and giving input on the program itself. During your 4-week stay, you will also get the opportunity to visit and stay at another Girl Scout camp to learn how they run their program. Note: This is a four-week program; participants will go home over the weekends. Girls will be asked to complete an application and provide references. $785

LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Junior Counselor Sessions 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 Broaden your leadership skills by discovering what it’s really like to be a counselor at Camp Conowingo. Our Junior Counselors will be assigned programs weekly, have time off each day, and go home on the weekends. This is a great opportunity for girls who dream of becoming a counselor. Space is limited. All Junior Counselors will be interviewed by the Camp Director and placement will be determined based on experience. This program is intended to be 5-weeks but exceptions may be made for the right candidate.

Note: This is a five-week program; participants will go home over the weekends. Girls will be asked to complete an application and provide references. There is no cost for this program.
