You saw descriptions of these classes in the Messenger just before Christmas and another listing of the offerings is in this issue for your review. Prayer Meeting – Wednesday nights provide us with a great opportunity for good food, rich fellowship, and spiritual growth. For January and February I (and some guest teachers who will join me) will be teaching a series called “Celebrating Grace.” Does that title sound familiar? It is the name of our new hymnal that will be dedicated in a special service on Sunday night, February 26.Each Wednesday night we will engage in a Bible Study based on a hymn that will be in our new hymnal. Over the years the church has always expressed her faith through the music that we sing. Many of us have learned our theology from hymns as well as the Bible. We will study some of these hymns that have shaped our faith. Sunday Morning Worship -- The worship emphases from January through April will be an effort to coordinate the sermon and the Bible Study lessons that are now provided through Baptists Today. The sermon will take the same title and text that Tony Cartledge, author of the Sunday School lessons, has chosen. Selected classes may choose to use these lessons in conjunction with the sermons. New Hymnals

We have surpassed 1100 hymnals in memorial and honor gifts! Thank you for your support in providing copies of

Celebrating Grace—Hymnal for Baptist Worship for First Baptist Church. If you have not yet given a hymnal in memory or honor of loved ones, it is not too late

to do so. We are looking to provide the book for at least our sanctuary

pews and service choirs and hopefully for other spaces such as the Chapel.

Simply turn in your contributions to the finance office. Gifts will be accepted throughout January and February.

Special offering envelopes are

available which allow you to specify the names of those you wish to honor

or memorialize. Names of both the donor and the honoree will be noted

on a special insert attached inside the front cover of the hymnal you provide.

The complete list of all names will be published online as well as in the commemorative program to be given out at the Hymnal Dedication Service

February 26 at 5:00 PM.

Tuesdays, 6:00 p.m. in the Parlor.

A new season of GriefShare has begun. All who have experienced the

loss of a loved one are invited.

Happy New Year! As 2012 begins i invite you to join us for. . .

Foundations for Life – This Sunday night we begin our full schedule of discipleship classes for all ages. You saw descriptions of these classes in the Messenger just before Christmas and another listing of the offerings is in this issue for your review. i am teaching a class on Sunday nights called “Hebrews for Everyone.” it will be a study of the Book of Hebrews from the New Testament. i will offer a very brief introduction of the study this Sunday night and then introduce special guests who will be leading the rest of my

session. We will hear from CBF missionaries Jack and C. J. Wehmiller who will be working with our youth in the Dominican republic this summer on the youth mission trip. on January 15 i will begin teaching from Hebrews with an occasional guest teacher on nights that i will be out of town.

Jud reasons can provide assistance in connecting teachers/classes to these lessons.
