CALL TO CONFESSION
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of mercy and love, we know that at times we allow ourselves to be distracted by things
that really don’t matter all that much. We would rather pursue intellectual arguments than live
the gospel. We would rather debate our equals than defend the vulnerable. We prefer to think
about you instead of getting to know you. So help us, God. Help us to discern what does
matter to you and to the vulnerable you call us to. Help us to open up our hearts wide in love
and grace, and so be living examples of your good news. In Christ we pray.
(Silence for personal confession)

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH from a Brief Statement of Faith
In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve. We trust in God the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of Life. In a broken and fearful world the Spirit gives us courage to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior, to unmask idolatries in church and culture, to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom and peace. In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God’s new heaven and earth, praying, “Come, Lord Jesus!”

Prayers of the Church Please pray for these concerns of our partner church in Malawi, Mtenthera CCAP:
• Food Security - The harvest has been very poor this year due to conditions of flooding and drought during the critical growing season. Many Malawians have used up their food stores which usually last until the next harvest in April/May 2016.
• Girl’s Dormitory - The roof is complete on both blocks of the dorm. Slabs are being poured and plumbing and electri-cal work will begin soon. Please pray that all construction will progress smoothly and prices of materials will remain stable.
• New Minister - A new minister, Rev. Hartley P. Zulu, has been called to Mtenthera and he accepted the call! He was installed Sunday, 11/8/15. We thank God for his arrival and want to pray that, through Rev. Zulu and his wife, Grace, the congregation there will receive faithful preaching of the truth of God’s word and pastoral leadership in
addressing the spiritual and physical needs of the community there.
• Rev. Banda—The former pastor still awaits a call to a new congregation. Please pray that he can be patient as he awaits God’s call upon his life and also that his family is provided for during this time.
◊ Please Pray for our Kids Hope Program—members of FPCP are providing mentoring to 20 students at Bird
Elementary School in Plymouth, through the Kids Hope Program USA. We praise God and pray for the program director, Cindy Blanchard-Kronig, and the 20 mentors. Please pray that the children involved with the program feel the loving connection of their mentors, their families and other caring people in their lives.

Salvation Army “Keep it Clean” Drive During the month of February, the Deacons are collecting dental and general hygiene items for the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army has identified items needed and packaging suggestions in order to serve as many people as possible. Please see our display in the lower narthex and consider helping this worthy cause.
If you have questions, please contact Tom Ford at [email protected] or (313) 319-4790.
FPCP is working more closely with our Presbytery and its program for foster children. Our
prayer ministry can help by praying for a special child in foster care. This month we are praying
for 17 year old Justice. This helpful, caring and friendly young man likes the outdoors and lists
playing outside and riding bikes among his favorite activities. On his list of after-school activi-
ties, Justice includes playing catch and baseball, and mowing grass. When the dinner bell rings,
Justice comes running and says there are “no foods I don’t like.” More information on Justice
and other children looking for a forever family is available at http://www.mare.org.
This month we are also praying for ALL the children. YOU CAN HELP MICHIGAN'S 13,000 CHILDREN IN
FOSTER CARE. How? See pictures of our kids awaiting forever families at www.mare.org . Pray for one or two of
them on a regular basis. Is God nudging you to find out more about foster parenting, adopting, mentoring or giving
respite care? Talk with experienced foster and adoptive parents who can provide answers. Contact the Foster Care
Navigator Program at 1.855.MICHKIDS

The Local Mission Committee needs your help! Beginning this month, our church will be preparing and serving community dinners at Second Mile Center in Detroit on the 4th Monday of each month. We are looking for volunteers to come and help with the serving. The time involved is roughly 4 pm—8 pm. The remaining dates for the spring are: February 22, March 21, April 18 and May 23. If you are interested in serving one or more of these dinners, please sign up on the Local Mission Board located across from the receptionist window on the first floor of the church. We hope you will join us as we begin this new ministry outreach!
Interested in Contributing Flowers for Sanctuary Worship Services?
After fifteen years of faithful volunteering, Carol Dobos is no longer scheduling floral arrangements for Sunday worship services. Effective immediately, I will be scheduling the floral arrangements for the worship services in the sanctuary. If you are interested in contributing a floral arrangement, please contact me,
Nancy White 734-453-1044
[email protected] Two floral arrangements are donated to the sanctuary worship services each week; the florist currently charges $25 for each bouquet of seasonal flowers. Thank you! Nancy White
Something for your sweetheart…
~ Good Coffee for a Good Cause ~
The Presbyterian Coffee Project offers a special link between congregations and communities around the world. Churches can now reach out to neighbors overseas not only with the prayers and offerings we give, but with the goods and products we purchase. A warm cup of coffee (or tea) in our hands is perhaps the most tangible daily connection we have with farmers around the world. It represents warmth, hospitality, fellowship, hard work and life’s pleasures both fine and simple. Buy-ing fair trade through the Presbyterian Coffee Project ensures that more of the money we spend on coffee reaches the hardworking farmers who actually grow it. You will have the opportunity to purchase this coffee and tea February 7 between and after services. We have a variety of coffees and teas to choose from including decaf, ground and whole bean.
Also on this day we will be selling Fair Trade Chocolate Hearts. A great Valentine’s gift for that special someone.

2016 FPCP Pictorial Directory
FPCP is partnering with Lifetouch to publish a new
pictorial directory in 2016 and we want your parcipa-
on so that it can be the most complete directory
possible.
Everyone (individual or family) who parcipates will
receive a FREE 8X10 print for themselves as well as that
picture in our new directory. If you have a dog or cat that
you want included in your picture, you can bring up to
two total with you for your photos. Similarly, if you want
to include a favorite item (musical instrument, sports
item, bible, etc.) in your photos, that’s OK too. Please
note that the photo to be used in the directory will not
include pets or significant items.
The first round of photography se=ngs are February 20,
23, 24, 25, 26, and 27. On Saturdays the 20th
and 27th
,
si=ngs are available between 10 AM and 5 PM, during
the week on the 23rd
- 26th
, they are 2PM to 9PM. You
can sign up by following the link on the FPCP website.
Family groups up to 5 need one 30 minute appointment,
groups of 6 or more need 2 consecuve 30 minute
appointments, as do mul-generaonal groups. If you
need help accessing the website, contact the church
office and they can assist in registering you for an
appointment.
The photography se=ngs are available to your extended
family, friends, and neighbors to parcipate in as well.
They can register and get their pictures taken by the
Lifetouch Professional photographers and order their
prints at the same pricing available to members. For a
nominal charge, we are also accepng external photo-
graphs in place of those produced by Lifetouch to be
included in the directory, provided they meet the format
criteria.
We need volunteers to assist with hosng during the
Feb. 20-27 photography sessions. If you can spare an
hour or two to help, please contact the church office.
Ways We Are Serving Our Church Family... ♦ At coffee hour, all of the hot and cold cups, once empty, can be put in the recycle bin by the service area. ♦ Two large recycling bins are taken out for recycling every Sunday. ♦ BATTERIES: bring any batteries you wish to be recycled next Sunday, February 7.
