AR Night Out: AR Night out is scheduled for TOMORROW NIGHT. Students in second grade must have earned 25 AR points and students in third - fifth grade must have earned 50 AR points by last Friday to be invited to AR Night Out. *First Grade students start the AR Program after Winter Break. If you have questions regarding the AR program, please contact Dr. Niemiec. Invitations were sent home on Monday, January 27th. OLSAT Testing: Students in first - fourth grade will participate in OLSAT Testing (Otis-Lennon School Ability Test). OLSAT assesses a student's cognitive abilities (e.g., verbal, nonverbal and quantitative). This test measures critical thinking and reasoning skills. Contact the classroom teacher for specific testing dates/times. Results from OLSAT testing will be shared with parents at a later date.
100th Day of School: The 100th Day of School is scheduled for Monday. This is always an exciting day for students in our primary classrooms.
From the Nurse: A flyer is attached to the Express for families who are interested in a free dental screening from the DuPage County Health Department on Friday, February 28, 2020.
Valentine Grams: The PTO will be selling Valentine Grams the weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day. Please refer to the attached flyer for more information. Valentine Grams will be delivered to students on Valentine’s Day (prior to classroom parties).
Character Counts! @ Erickson: During the month of February, Erickson will focus on KINDNESS. Each classroom will create a Kindness Pledge that will replace the school pledge during the month of February. Students will also keep a Kindness Journal during the month. Each Friday, students will reflect on the week by answering four questions: 3 Ways I was Kind This Week, 2 Ways Others Were Kind To Me This Week, 1 Thing I Want To Do Next Week To Be
Kind, & The Best Thing That Happened To Me This Week.
Kindergarten Registration: Kindergarten registration is right around the corner. Any student who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2020, is eligible for kindergarten during the 2020-2021 school year. Starting the week of February 10, 2020, families can enroll online. If you need assistance with online enrollment please contact the school your student(s) will attend to set up an appointment. More information will be coming in the next few weeks.

5Essentials Survey: Erickson is asking that parents take a few minutes to complete the 5Essentials survey. To complete the parent survey, please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/ and select Parent survey. Students in 4th & 5th grade will also participate in the 5Essential Survey in January. The The 5Essentials Survey identifies five indicators that lead to improved outcomes for all students, including improved attendance and larger test score gains.
Community Mentors: Erickson is looking for members of the community of upstanding character to mentor Erickson students. If you are interested in being a mentor and are available 1x per week (Wednesdays) from 12:00-12:50 from mid-January through mid-May, please read this document for more information and fill out the application: Erickson Community Mentor Application. Receipts are emailed to your account upon ordering. Please print these out for future reference for days ordered. If you did not receive a receipt your order did not go through. We are not able to supply lunches to students on days not ordered. Thanks in advance for your cooperation & support! **Please note the side on Monday is now pretzels due to the extreme amount of waste with the salads.

Any student attending Erickson Elementary School is able to participate in this event. Due to safety & security, the number of parents able to attend the classroom party will be limited to six (6) individuals. If you are interested in volunteering for the Holiday Room Party, please contact the head room parent for your child’s classroom. If you do not have the contact info for the room parent, please contact [email protected].
Please notify the classroom teacher if child will be leaving school after the holiday party with another parent. Students that do not have a note will not be allowed to leave school with another parent.
