MORNING PRAYER of The

Liturgy of the Hours every

Friday morning at 8:30 AM

in the Church.

From Paul Welch,

Head of the Diocesan

Social Action

Committee on a Two-

State Solution for

Palestine

For decades the United

States Conference of

Catholic Bishops has

advocated for greater

efforts towards world

peace. Only the

emergence of a viable and

independent Palestinian

state living alongside a

recognized and secure

Israel will bring the peace

for which majorities of both

Israelis and Palestinians

yearn.

This two-state solution

enhances Israeli security,

preserves Israel as a

Jewish majority democratic

state, gives Palestinians

the dignity of their own

state, allows access to the

Holy Sites of all three

faiths, promotes economic

development in the region,

and undermines extremists

who exploit the conflict.

The Holy See supports the

two-state solution and has

recognized the “State of

Palestine”.

THE ANNUAL MARCH FOR

LIFE

in

Washington, D.C.

January 22nd will be the

43rd anniversary of the

Supreme Court decisions

legalizing abortion at any

stage of a pregnancy.

Since then, almost one

million abortions have

been done every year in

the United States.

Join an anticipated

300,000 people from

across the country to

express peaceful and

prayerful opposition to this

holocaust by participating

in the March for Life on

Friday, January 22nd. The

Knights of Columbus of

Norwich will again have a

bus to the March.

The bus will leave from St.

Bartholomew’s parking lot

at 10 PM Thursday, Jan.

21st, and return about 11

PM Friday, Jan. 22nd.

The bus fare is $50/adults

and $25/students, and

scholarships are available.

The March for Life is a

vitally important event.

Someone must stand up

for some of the most

defenseless human beings

in our country. The true

Pro-Life movement is both

pro-child and pro-woman.

To sign up for a seat on

the bus and make

arrangements for payment,

please call Jim Reynolds

at 336-1311.

THE PRAYER GROUP

Meets every Thursday at 7:00 PM in the Rectory. Hymns, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and the Scriptural Rosary. Light refreshments follow. All are welcome

WISDOM FROM OUR

CATHOLIC

TRADITION

“When God wants an

important thing done

in this world or a

wrong righted, God

simply has a tiny baby

born, perhaps of a very

humble home or of a

very humble mother.

And God puts the idea

or purpose into the

mother’s heart. And

she puts it in the babies

mind and then – God

waits. The great events

of this world are not

battles and elections

but rather babies, for

each child comes with

the message that God

is not yet discouraged

with humanity but is

still expecting good-

will to become

incarnate in each

human life.”

MORNING PRAYER at

ST. MALACHY’S

Every Friday at

8:30 AM in

St. Malachy’s

Church

Morning Prayer,

which used to be

called Lauds

(Praises), is part of

the Liturgy of the

Hours, the official

daily prayer of the

Church. The

Liturgy of the Hours

is made up of

Psalms, brief

readings from the

Word of God,

intercessions and

canticles. Morning

Prayer takes about

20 minutes.

Come as often as

you can to join your

fellow parishioners

on Friday

mornings.

Booklets are

provided. You will

also be joining with

bishops, priests,

deacons, monks,

friars, sisters, nuns

and devout lay

Christians all over

the world, reciting

the same Psalms

and canticles,

listening to the

same Scripture

passages, and

interceding for the

world and for local

and other needs.

FATHER LUPA will be the

main celebrant and

homilist for the Masses on

the weekend of Jan.

16th/17th.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE

After meeting

Jesus, the Magi returned

home by “another way”.

What in your family needs

to be done “another way”?

Do you need “another

way” to resolve differences,

to communicate, or to

show affection? This is a

new year, a time to change

what isn’t working. Take a

tip from some wise men,

there’s always “another

way”.

RED CROSS BLOOD

DRIVE

Give blood. The need is

constant.

The gratification is instant.

St. Malachy’s Church Hall will be the site of another Blood Drive, 2-7 PM on Monday, January 25th.

Sign up in the vestibule for a time slot to give blood starting next weekend.

Or register for a time slot online by going to in the address bar type redcross.org, click refine search, type in zip code, scroll down pick a date, then click on red arrow then pick your time slot (follow directions from there) the link, findadrive, and typing in Sherburne’s zip code, 13460.

Volunteers are needed to man the canteen for the blood drive. These volunteers would receive at the canteen those who have just given blood, inquire as to how they are

3

4

feeling, ask them to sit down for 10-20 minutes, and offer them juice and a snack. Snacks will be provided. If enough people volunteer, these volunteers would have to work only a 1-2 hour shift. Please sign up in the vestibule to serve at the canteen.

The Startling reality is that every 2 seconds someone in the US needs blood. One out of 3 of us will need blood at some point in our lives…yet only 5% of the eligible population donates. We need new donors and we need people to donate more often. Please help us keep the blood levels safe! For the Cancer Patient – For the Premature Baby – For that accident Victim – The need is constant… The gratification is instant. Please Give Blood!
