We look forward to welcoming Bishop Rob Skirving on

place that morning.
C O M M U N I T Y V I S I T O R S First Sundays this year we will welcome a variety of agencies to
hear more about how we can be involved in the great Wilmington community. Let’s put our faith into action!

powerful voice for abused, neglected, and dependent children
in the state court system

much-needed lift.

seeking to improve their reading, writing, math, and language

DO YOU KNOW...
Monday (7:00am)
MEN’S SPIRITUAL FORMATION
Monday-Thursday (8:30am) MORNING PRAYER
is brief service with readings and prayers following a form that has been used daily in the Church for
the last 1,500 years.
Tuesday (10:45am) HEALING SERVICE WITH HOLY EUCHARIST
is a quiet service of Holy Eucharist where there is opportunity for special prayers for healing for ourselves and others.
Thursday (7:00pm) - Parish Hall CONTEMPLATIVE PRACTICES
Gentle instructed yoga and meditation, free of charge, helps to quiet the soul.
Saturday (5:30pm) - Parish Hall
A CELTIC EUCHARIST
We worship God together with songs and readings rooted in the spirituality of Celtic Christianity. We have adapted resources from The Iona Community, an Ecumenical Christian Community living and worshipping together in Scotland. Though the pattern and structure of our evening service is quite similar to a traditional Episcopal liturgy, the Celtic heritage of The Iona Community shines through with an emphasis on simple yet beautiful language, time for silent reflection.
Mid-Week Services
It’s that time of year when we find our thoughts turning
to what New Year Resolutions we intend to make. With that in mind, I thought we might have some fun find looking at some pragmatic (maybe helpful?) approaches to the whole idea of resolutions:
“Many people look forward to the New Year for a new start on old habits.” -- Anonymous
A New Year's resolution is something that goes in one Year and out the other. -- Anonymous
Now you might get the idea that I’m against making New Year’s resolutions, but I’m not! In fact, I make them every year, only I don’t call them “resolutions.” I call them spiritual growth goals which seems to have a more grace approach to the whole idea. A goal seems to be something we aim for (more grace!) whereas a resolution is more of a decision or an oath. Therefore, I find myself comfortable setting New Year’s Spiritual Goals. With that thought in mind, that if you are considering making some spiritual growth goals at the first of the year, I would love to suggest you might consider some of the upcoming musical opportunities as a means to grow your faith. Look them over and see what you think. If you’re at all interested, give me a call (763-498-2553) or send me an email: [email protected]. BISHOP’S CHOIR On January 26th St. Andrew’s on the Sound will welcome Bishop Robert Skirving to our worship services. It is that special time we connect with our spiritual leader in a service of celebration and thanksgiving.
From the Music Room
In order to bring a musical richness to our worship, we will invite members of the church to make a short-term commitment to a special Bishop’s Choir. Like the short-term Alumni Choir, we will choose a beautiful and easy anthem to learn in the few weeks before the 26th. BELL CHOIR Our Bell Choir has set a spiritual goal of playing at a nearby nursing home in February so we might bring some joy to those who might need some cheering up in the cold months ahead. If you are interested in joining us but thinking: “But I don’t know how to play a handbell, don’t worry – we’ll teach you how to ring some easy pieces so you can join our Bell Choir in ringing some beautiful music! If any of these opportunities seem like a good opportunity to help your New Year’s Spiritual Goals, please let me know! Blessings for the New Year!

More from the Music Room
The EYC ended the year with some fun and a lot of good works. On December 8th, we held our annual Christmas Party filled with fun, fellowship, and games. Of course our annual white elephant gift exchange is a favorite. On December 15th, we worked at the Toys for Tots warehouse which services our county and the surrounding counties. (5 counties total) The Salvation Army is the organization that heads up Toys for Tots. Our young people and adults helped shop for children, create family packages, unload a truck, and sort family packages to prepare for pickup. We would like to thank our wonderful group of young people and their parents for an amazing first half of the programming year. We look forward to the New Year and all the exciting events we have planned. Happy New Year

Episcopal Youth Community
Advent has been so special.
We started out making Advent wreaths for the First Sunday in December. Wonder was found not only in the light of the Advent candles but also in the caterpillar we found on the greens! We visited with St. Nicholas and decorated gingerbread cookies. As we journeyed
towards Christmas we prepared for our Pageant.
At the Christmas Pageant, the Magi saw the star in the east and came to worship him. We all followed the star, gave gifts of love and continue to spread light into the world. Thank you to the whole cast of our beautiful Christmas Pageant, all the
helpful parents, Mark Hellman for the music, the Robey family for helping with costumes and directing, the Parish Life committee for the party and Jesus for being our Savior.

St. Andrew’s Preschool News
The first half of the preschool year ended with our Christmas program. The church was full of smiling parents, grandparents, and special friends as the students told the story of
Jesus’ birth. The children worked hard to learn their songs and were so excited for the performance.
Preschool classes will resume on Monday, January 6th. At that time, we will also begin registration for the 2020-2021 school year. If you or anyone you know would like more information about our special preschool program,
please contact me at [email protected].
Thank you to our wonderful church community for your support of the preschool ministry in 2019. We wish you all a very Blessed and Happy New Year.
