As someone who loves to search for hidden treasures at local antiques shops, Blake Seale can hardly contain his excitement over his latest find — NHPBS Passport — a video streaming service that allows Blake and his wife Alyssa to watch as many ANTIQUES ROADSHOW episodes as they like.
At first Blake and Alyssa got their fix of ANTIQUES ROADSHOW from another streaming service, but then they realized there were only ten episodes available. That’s when the frustration set in. “This is a publicly funded show. I knew it had to be somewhere else on PBS, and I would rather give back to the people who are making the program. That’s when it made sense to sign up for NHPBS Passport,” says Blake.
Nestled in at their new home in Farmington, the couple loves to watch news, NATURE and Ken Burns shows, and Blake is a big fan of NOVA.“There’s no agenda, and these days scientific facts are being dismissed. The cure to this is programs like NOVA,” says Blake.
Blake and Alyssa don’t have cable. Instead, they pick and choose various streaming services to watch the shows they love. Even if you do have cable or satellite, NHPBS Passport allows you to watch your favorite PBS programs on your own schedule.
When you become a member of NHPBS at the level of $60 a year or more, NHPBS Passport is included for free! You can watch all your favorite PBS shows whenever and wherever you want using your streaming device, computer, laptop, tablet or even your phone. Blake tells everyone about NHPBS Passport. “It’s the best $5 a month you can spend for the best
programs on television.”
The PBS NEWSHOUR is another favorite. Blake quickly brushes off the misconstrued image of the NEWSHOUR being boring. “I don’t need the attention capturing graphics and storylines. You’ve got to sort through all of those distractions on the other news programs,” says Blake, “and what you find on the PBS NEWSHOUR is super even-keeled and factual. The PBS NEWSHOUR shows multiple angles when covering stories, and when you get a more rounded view of a subject, you then get a chance to make your own opinion.”
On Sunday mornings you’ll find Blake getting up early and easing into the day. And what does he watch when he sits down? A NATURE documentary. “It reminds me of being a kid again and waking up real early and watching SESAME STREET.”
