Commanders Corner From the desk of the Commander Hardin Post 113
I hope each and every one of you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
On 11 December a group of us from our post went to Sadowski Center on Fort Knox to welcome back solders from their overseas deployment. If you want to be part of the Legion team taking part in these events, please contact Steve Stewart at [email protected] , and he will put you on a call list.
Our General Membership Meeting has been changed to the 9th of January from what would have been the normal meeting date of the 1st Thursday of the month. It was felt that because of the holidays more folks would be able to attend after everyone re-turned from vacation.
I am pleased to announce that the American Legion National Commander James W. "Bill" Oxford will be visiting our post on 8 January at approximately 1 o’clock in the afternoon. Please come out and welcome him to not only the largest but also the best post in the state of Kentucky!
On the 11th of January we will have our monthly breakfast from 8-11 AM, all First Responders are invited to enjoy a full (free) breakfast courtesy of the American Legion Family in appreciation for all that they do for our community. Also, on the 11th we will have a free dance with a DJ in the ballroom for all family members with a 2020 membership, there will be a cover charge of $5 for guest and non-members.
Our legion family has been given an opportunity to receive a Bradley Fighting Vehicle from the Patton Museum! Our plan is to use it as a static display for the post. The Bradley will have to be placed on a concrete platform strong enough to hold its weight, approximately thirty tons. With that said we are looking for ways to make the transfer and placement of the vehicle as cost efficient as possible. John Crow is the POC for this endeavor. If anyone has any ideas, please contact John [email protected], 270 351-5911 or the Post at 270-737-9949.
As a reminder, the American Legion Winter Conference will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Louisville on January 23-25.
Joe Garrett, Commander, Hardin Post 113
HAPPY NEW YEAR Everyone!! We all put an end to 2019 in our own way, so let’s start out the new year on a positive note of good health and happiness. Let’s make 2020 a great year supporting our Veterans, community and our Legion. Volunteering is a great way to act on this support. It doesn’t matter if it’s just a couple hours, baking a dessert or decorating for an event, all volunteer hours make a difference!
A big thank-you goes out to all our bingo players and Legion Family members who supported our Food Drive. We delivered the food to the HCS Family Resource & Youth Services Center to help the children through the holiday break.
` Breakfast with Santa and Christmas With Our Veterans in the Carl Brashear Veterans Center were a big success. Thanks to all who helped support these two wonderful events. Dinner for our WWII and Ko-rean War Veterans was a great way for our Legion families to honor our heroes and say Thank-you! Thanks to the Legion for hosting this event and thanks to our volunteers to help make it happen.
Come out Saturday, 11 January for our All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast. We are also honoring our 1st Re-sponders with a free breakfast, so if you see one of our 1st Responders, please give them a big thank-you for their service. We will also need extra volunteers for this breakfast, so if you have a couple hours, please come out and help. Contact Diane Kennedy at (270)300-2110 if you can help. Continued on page 5:

2019 has come to a close and another year of riding, fundraising, volunteering and helping our sur-
rounding communities has been completed. The American Legion Riders Post 113 continue to make a difference
in peoples lives and helping communities and organizations throughout the year. Thank you to every Rider for
what you do everyday in supporting the four Pillars of the American Legion.
December has been a busy month visiting veterans in the surrounding nursing homes, to include the Carl
Brashear Veterans Home, and bringing them Christmas cheer and singing Christmas songs to them, which al-
ways puts a smile on their faces. The ALR Christmas party was a grand time with great food, friends, ornament
exchange, and gift drawings. A very grateful thank you to all the riders that prepared, decorated, and emceed this
annual event.
On December 14th, we were out in force supporting the Wreaths Across America by placing wreaths on
the veteran’s graves, to include our riders and supporters that have passed away over the years. There were over
6000 wreaths laid at the Radcliff Veterans Cemetery Central this year.
Bingo is our main fundraiser and I would like to say how grateful we are to have the volunteers from all
the families help out and make this fundraiser the success it is. Our players are supportive of our charitable con-
tributions and thank them for supporting us as well.
In closing, I wish everyone a Happy New Year! Ride safe but above all have fun!
