VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance)
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) services will be offered once again
starting mid-January, 2017. These services are for people with an income of
$57,000 or less. To schedule an appointment at the Guthrie County Extension
Office call 641-747-2276, or at the Greene County Extension Office, call 515-386
-2138.
No appointments will be scheduled before mid January, 2017
Appointments will be made Monday-Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.
Only basic Iowa & Federal returns will be processed. We do NOT prepare
schedules or forms related to business profit/loss (except Schedule C-EZ or C
with business expenses under $10,000), capital gains/losses, farm or rental
income, employee business expenses, or moving expenses. Please consult a
professional tax preparer for services not offered at a VITA site.

Private Pesticide Applicator Training Private Pesticide Applicator Training will be offered at the
Guthrie Activity Center on
Thursday, February 23, 2017, at
1:30 pm AND 6:30 pm To find out your current certification status, call the IDALS Pesticide Bureau at
515-281-8591.
To become certified initially, you must take the exam offered by the IA Dept. of
Ag & Land Stewardship (IDALS). A Study Guide (PAT 1) is available for
purchase at the Extension Office.
One way to renew your certification is to pass the certification test every 3
years. A second way is to attend a private applicators’ continuing instruction
course each of the 3 years during your renewal cycle.

fee of $20.
Commercial Manure
Applicators Training Iowa State University Extension & Outreach, in cooperation with the Iowa De-
partment of Natural Resources, will offer the Commercial Manure Applicator
Certification Workshop on Thursday January 5th.
Pre-registration is preferred by contacting the
Guthrie County Extension Office at 641-747-
2276. There is no charge for attending this
workshop. Anyone not able to attend training
should schedule an appointment with their
DNR field office to take the certification exam.

Childcare Provider Training:
“Improving Transition Times”
Childcare Provider Training, “Improving Transition Times”, will be offered on
Tuesday, January 24th, at 6:30 pm at the Guthrie County Extension &
Outreach Office.
Improving Transition Times is a workshop for childcare providers, interested
parents, and teachers. It will help you to smooth transitions and make them
productive, fun times for children and stress free for adults.
If you are interested in attending this workshop, please call the Guthrie
County Extension Office at 641-747-2276. Registration fee is $15.
2017 Iowa Small Farms Conference
The 2nd Annual Iowa Small Farms Conference will be held on Saturday, February
11, 2017, in Ames. Dan Perkins of Perkins’ Good Earth Farm will be the featured
speaker, along with a wide variety of track options and a trade show.
The conference will be a great event for people who are excited to learn more about
opportunities on their small farm or acreage. With a wide variety of track options,
attendees can get the most out of their day by customizing the conference to fit their
special needs and interests.
The day begins with an address from Perkins, a certified crop adviser and owner and
operator of a CSA, along with his wife Julie DeMotte.
Three relevant tracks will be led by experts & offer a wide variety of information.
Track options include establishing hops, raising concurbits, tractors 101, creating
windbreaks, wildlife habitat, on-farm wind & solar, niche pork & more.
A trade show at the conference will provide attendees with opportunities to network
with companies representing many facets of agriculture.
The conference will be held at the Scheman Building on the ISU campus from 8 am
to 4 pm. Early registration is available for $50 until January 31st, with registration
moving to $75 after that date. For more information and to register, visit
