And like many people I look at January as a time of renewal, a time to evaluate the past year and to look ahead. Some of us use this annual “fresh start” as an opportunity to make resolutions on ways to improve our health, our relationships, and other areas of our lives. But before we find ourselves feeling guilty for eating that donut for breakfast instead of a protein shake, here’s 3 simple and easy things you can do for yourself and your community that can provide a satisfying “check” off that New Year’s list. 1. Make sure you are signed up with the Lindon City alert communication system called “Everbridge”. The recent Boil Order event over the holiday reminds us of the importance to receive critical information and this is what Everbridge is designed to do. This alert system can deliver messages to you any way you wanton your home phone, cell phone, email, and more so the City may reach you in any emergency (or sometimes non- emergency situations) to let you know about important City-related events. To learn more and sign up, go to; http://www.lindoncity.org/everbridge-emergency-notification.htm 2. Are you recycling yet? Did you know that blue can is able take up to 70% of your garbage and you don’t even have to wash items or sort them! It’s easy and only $3.25 per month, which is cheaper than a regular 2 nd black trash can. It can save money for you, the cost and sourcing of raw materials for future manufacturing, and helps eliminate waste from taking space at the landfill. To order a Blue Recycle Can, contact Sherrie at the Lindon City Center at 801-785-5043. Or to learn more go to; http://www.lindoncity.org/utilities-clerk.htm 3. Volunteer even if it’s one time, or a regular activity. You’ll meet new people and feel great! Anything at all - even something small. There are so many opportunities all around us from the local schools, to the Lindon senior center, helping with Lindon Days events, adopting a park or trail, or serving on one of our many city volunteer committees. Perhaps coaching one of our city sports leagues? Trust me, you don’t have to be an expert, just a willingness to get involved! Go to our new re-designed City website to find the contact info for the departments you are interested in serving, or call the general line at 801-785- 5043. I am thankful to live with such caring and good people here in Lindon. HAPPY NEW YEAR - 2017

The holidays are a time for each of us to gather as friends, families and neighbors to reflect

upon what we can be thankful for. And like many people I look at January as a time of renewal, a

time to evaluate the past year and to look ahead. Some of us use this annual “fresh start” as an

opportunity to make resolutions on ways to improve our health, our relationships, and other areas

of our lives. But before we find ourselves feeling guilty for eating that donut for breakfast instead

of a protein shake, here’s 3 simple and easy things you can do for yourself and your community

that can provide a satisfying “check” off that New Year’s list.

1. Make sure you are signed up with the Lindon City alert communication system called

“Everbridge”. The recent Boil Order event over the holiday reminds us of the importance

to receive critical information and this is what Everbridge is designed to do. This alert

system can deliver messages to you any way you want—on your home phone, cell phone,

email, and more so the City may reach you in any emergency (or sometimes non-

emergency situations) to let you know about important City-related events. To learn more

and sign up, go to;

http://www.lindoncity.org/everbridge-emergency-notification.htm

2. Are you recycling yet? Did you know that blue can is able take up to 70% of your garbage

and you don’t even have to wash items or sort them! It’s easy and only $3.25 per month,

which is cheaper than a regular 2nd black trash can. It can save money for you, the cost and

sourcing of raw materials for future manufacturing, and helps eliminate waste from taking

space at the landfill.

To order a Blue Recycle Can, contact Sherrie at the Lindon City Center at 801-785-5043.

Or to learn more go to; http://www.lindoncity.org/utilities-clerk.htm

3. Volunteer even if it’s one time, or a regular activity. You’ll meet new people and feel

great! Anything at all - even something small. There are so many opportunities all around

us – from the local schools, to the Lindon senior center, helping with Lindon Days events,

adopting a park or trail, or serving on one of our many city volunteer committees. Perhaps

coaching one of our city sports leagues? Trust me, you don’t have to be an expert, just a

willingness to get involved! Go to our new re-designed City website to find the contact

info for the departments you are interested in serving, or call the general line at 801-785-

5043.

I am thankful to live with such caring and good people here in Lindon. You truly make it great

and as we look forward to a wonderful and blessed 2017 may we all strive to be good neighbors

and continue making Lindon a wonderful community.

HOW I CAME TO LINDON……

In 1976, Connie and I were taking a drive. I don’t know where we were headed, but we were driving through Lindon. We were on the side roads and enjoying the beautiful open fields. Oh, and the view of Timpanogos was amazing. As we began to drive through the Hollow, we saw a for sale sign on the west side of the road. What a wonderful piece of property. Connie said, “I would love to live there.” That’s how it began. We were right next to Ernie’s hill and the Hollow stream ran from the springs down to the Rodeo grounds. And, oh the stories we could tell! When we built here, there were fewer homes, only two LDS wards (one east of State St. and one west of State St.), but great people. The outdoors was and is everywhere. Even with the growth of the city, the citizens are good people that care for each other. Thanks to all of you. And thanks to our city leaders and employees, who maintain that same beautiful and peaceful environment of “a little bit of country.”
