January 5th: No Class!
January 12th: Working With Children With Special Needs-This class will discuss some general information that can help address the special needs of some children. Included will be tips on developing routines, setting boundaries, and the use of praise and positive reinforcement.
January 19th: Exploring the 40 Developmental Assets and the Role of Parents as Asset Builders - The Search Institute’s 40 Develop-mental Assets are common sense, positive experiences that represent the rela-tionships, opportunities and personal qualities that young people need in order to avoid risks and thrive. The training takes a close look at the developmental assets and ways to create an intentionally rich asset-based program that in-volves parents as asset builders. January 26th: The Burnout Blues- will explore the dynamics of burnout and ways to avoid the negative effects it can have on life, work and relation-ships. This workshop will provide practical knowledge and tools to enable par-ticipants to limit the stress in their lives and avoid burnout.

February 2nd: Unsafe Stress: Three Stages and How to Manage- Have you been in such stressful situations that you become crazed? This class will assist participants in viewing stress as a tool for learning to remain calm and as a focal point for growth.
February 9th: Autism- This class will be taught by the Arkansas Support Net-work and will teach parents how to recognize the signs of Autism/Asperger’s, language delays, and where to go for support.
February 16th: 1-2-3 Magic: Effective Discipline Ages 2-12 Part I- Participants will be introduced to the steps of 1, 2, 3 Magic “stop” behaviors and the two biggest mistakes adults make with children. Steps for controlling obnoxious behavior will be emphasized. The DVD by Thomas Phelan, Ph.D. will be the foundation for class and discussion.
February 23rd: 1-2-3 Magic: Effective Discipline Ages 2-12 Part II- Participants will review Part I of 1, 2, 3, Magic and the six types of testing and manipulation children use on adults. The six “start” behavior tactics will be discussed and practiced.

February 8th: Anger: You Are the Director of Your Behavior-
Through this interactive presentation participants will examine their skills and strengths they have to become powerful over the anger within and to develop positive relationships with those that matter i.e. spouse, boss, children, friends,
and relatives.
February 15th: When Little Children are Angry- Participants will define an-ger, identify causes of anger and discuss management strategies.
February 22nd: Getting Started on Anger Control - Explore the steps to a 24 hour commitment to remain calm.
February 29th: Four Stages of Anger in Children - There are predictable pat-terns of anger from build up to explosion in children. Each stage provides an opportunity to diffuse the child’s anger. Adults can identify patterns to help move forward in choices to control anger.

March 29th: Divorce and Co-Parenting- This class will provide positive behavioral techniques and communication strategies to implement in families experiencing divorce and separation. A child-centered approach to co-parenting will be explored, and participants will be given tools for establishing healthy co-parenting styles.

April 5th: Kindergarten Readiness and Transition- Readiness for Kin-dergarten not only involves getting ready for “school” but also involves getting ready for lifelong success. This class will discuss how to support your child’s success in the process of getting them ready for school and life.

Come get personal responses to questions on disability issues, including specific disabilities, early intervention, Individual Educations Plans (IEPs), Special Education, and related services such as mediation, family issues, positive behavioral supports, transitions to adult life, multicultural issues, education rights and much more.
April 13th: New Skills for Frazzled Parents- The DVD by brain researcher Dr. Daniel Amen will explore parenting skills in a fun and practical way. “The Instruction manual that should have come with your child.”

April 18th: Anger: Critical Issues that Affect Our Young Children- At-tendees will be engaged in learning about critical safety and health issues such as SIDS, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Shaken Baby, and Abuse/neglect that are harmful to our children. May 3rd:Infant and Toddler Development: A Very Close Look-Participants will receive information pertaining to young infants, mobile infants and toddlers that will support a deeper understanding of themselves and what they can do to support children.
May 10th: Autism, Asperger's, & ADHD– We will share and identify some of the major conflicts we encounter and consider some of the styles of resolution and the ef-fectiveness of these techniques. We will discuss the importance of good communica-tion and the factors that influence our decisions and problem-solving techniques. Poor communication can sometimes be the major source of conflict.
May 17th: Guiding Young Children Socially and Emotionally– Promoting social-emotional development in your classroom by embedding your teaching practic-es throughout the day help children feel secure and act as a model for positive behav-iors.
May 24th: Anger: Critical Issues that Affect Our Young Children- At-tendees will be engaged in learning about critical safety and health issues such as SIDS, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Shaken Baby, and Abuse/Neglect that are harmful to our children. May 9th: Anger: Rebuilding Relationships-Participants in this class will focus on strategies to rebuild relationships that have been broken or dis-connected. Who is involved and what is important in the process.
May 16th: Anger: Using Books and Stories to Guide Children’s Behavior- Participants will look at challenging behaviors of children and de-termine if the behavior is detrimental to the child’s learning and success and/or determine if the behavior is merely “annoying” to the adult. Books, stories, and other materials will be utilized as an approach in guiding children’s behav-ior.

June 7th: Help! My Kids are Driving me Crazy!- In this workshop we will share ideas and strategies for positive communication skills with your children. We will discuss factors that can affect your children’s behaviors and provide some skills and techniques that might assist you to manage and im-prove your children’s behavior.
June 14th: Sensory Issues -In this training you will learn what Sensory Integration Disorder is and what you can do to understand and help.
June 21st: Experiencing Nature and How It Benefits Our Well Being - Attendees will be reminded of nature, its beauty, and how nature benefits children and adults physically, socially, emotionally and intellectu-ally. Natural objects for discussion and manipulation will be provided. Par-ticipants are encouraged to bring an interesting “nature” story to share.
June 28th: New Skills for Frazzled Parents- The DVD by brain re-searcher Dr. Daniel Amen will explore parenting skills in a fun and practical way. “The Instruction manual that should have come with your child.”

June 1st: Being a Parent Advocate– Participants will re-ceive helpful suggestions to parents on how to be an advocate for children.
June 8th: Behavior Guidance- Strategies to implement in the classroom and home setting will be presented. Behavior guidance techniques will be discussed with participants, and an opportunity to provide feedback will conclude the session.
June 15th: Managing Your Stress and Time– Come and learn new techniques on how to manage stressful situa-tions and maintain control.
June 22nd: Divorce and Co-Parenting- This class will provide positive behavioral techniques and communication strategies to implement in families experiencing divorce and separation. A child-centered approach to co-parenting will be explored, and participants will be given tools for establishing healthy co-parenting styles.
June 29th: Poverty 101- will present an overview of pov-erty, homelessness and hunger in Northwest Arkansas and ex-plore ways this impacts learning and self-esteem. We will ex-plore the work of poverty expert Dr. Donna Beegle and dis-cuss community resources that alleviate poverty.

June 6th: Unsafe Stress: Three Stages and How to Manage- Have you been in such stressful situations that you become crazed? This class will assist participants in viewing stress as a tool for learning to remain calm and as a focal point for growth.
June 13th: Reduce Summer Stress: Activities for Summer Fun- Participants will be provided opportunity to participate in hands on activities that may be duplicated in the home or classroom. Results of this will be busy children happy parents and caregivers.
June 20th: Getting Started: Anger Control- Learn the five mis-taken goals of anger and how to take steps to get started on anger control.
June 27th: Anger: Guiding Children in Choices & Conse-quences– You can’t yell at your child and be effective at the same time. Choices and consequences create learning opportunities for children.
