I hope everyone is enjoyed their Holidays! Together with many individuals of this beautiful community, we have been sowing a lot of hard work and dedication into 2014. I am so excited to what we will see flourish in 2015! One of the things that I am most passionate about in regards to serving everyone here is the opportunity to create community in such an amazing master-planned development. While the aesthetic appearance and property value are an important role we work hard to continue to improve and maintain, we truly value creating community, unity and building relationships. Sharing dominion with 3000+ people is not an easy task, but if people truly connect the benefits and rewards of these relationships it will prove to be invaluable! Below you will find a quick update on a few items people have reached out to me about this past month.

I wish you all a very Happy and Prosperous New Year in 2015!

2015 Assessments & Coupon BooksGOOD NEWS! If you didn't already know, assessments are going down! By now everyone should have received their new 2015 coupon books. If you have not, please reach out to the Town Center so we can investigate why, correct and get you the info. If you are currently on Direct Debit through us, No Worries! Your Direct Debit will update automatically. If you have bill pay through your own bank, make sure to update this new amount on your end so there is no over paying. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Commercial Vehicles Friendly ReminderWe would just like to send a friendly reminder that commercial vehicles are not allowed to be parked in the community. If you have logos or advertising on your vehicle it must be parked in your garage or covered at all times.

Mail RoomWe have been working diligently to communicate with USPS on some of the challenges and concerns the community has been experiencing with the postal service. We will continue to do so on behalf of the community. We also ask that everyone check their mail often to avoid overcrowding of the boxes, using up the parcel locker spaces and returned mail.

Bright House Digital AdaptersWe have confirmed with our Bright House representative that the two adapters at no charge included with your service will continue through the end of the VillageWalk HOA Contract that expires in 2016. We are currently exploring options prior to renewing or re-negotiating any contracts. This task will continue throughout 2015 for the Board of Directors to review and consider.

Road SafetyWhether driving, cycling or walking, please remember to stay aware of your surroundings and take all appropriate and required safety measures.

Committees Why Join? Our Committees - We Need You! The success of our association depends upon getting our members involved in the various committees that the Board of Directors depends upon for support and guidance. Volunteering to serve on one of the associations committees is a great way to become involved and contribute to our community. An attractive feature of living in a community association is that it eliminates much of the responsibility of home ownership, but the price of that convenience is sometimes the creation of an atmosphere of apathy. As owners in community associations we tend to allow that elite group known as "them" or "they" to operate the association, attend related meetings and make important community decisions. However, we need to realize that "them" and "they" are always made up of "I", "We", "You" and "Us". The Board of Directors is looking for homeowners who are interested in volunteering to serve. Update on Compliance Committee: We will be reaching out to our volunteers that we previously met with in January for a start-up meeting. Please be on the look-out for an email from me.

Neighborhood Watch Keeping Our Community Safe.It is certainly no surprise that many cities are encouraging, and even coordinating Neighborhood Watch Programs. They really work! The reason they work is simple: One of the best ways to deter crime and vandalism in a community is to create a network of neighbors looking out for each other. Not only do police and sheriff's departments encourage Neighborhood Watch Programs, they sponsor educational programs to help participants learn more about fighting crime in their community. Taking part in a Neighborhood Watch program is simple. The only thing you need is the participation of yourself and your neighbors. If you would like to participate in a Neighborhood Watch Program for our community,

A Farewell from the Desk of Jessie

It has been a pleasure to have been able to service you for this past year and a half. Within my time here at VillageWalk I have learned so much in regards to Property Management, which was such a change from where I came from in the hotel scene. With the knowledge acquired working at VillageWalk I am now able to advance in this industry, and I have no one other to thank then you all, the residents of VillageWalk. You all helped me grow while learning

together. They always say you have to be a “certain kind of crazy to go into this field of work” and although I now agree with that saying I wouldn’t change it for the world. I believe I have found my niche and hearing the kind encouraging words from the residents throughout my time here has not gone unheard. Okay, enough of the Sap! I can assure you that everyone in the front office is fully trained to handle any inquiry that comes into the office. This includes ARC Applications/Questions, Late Notices, and Violation Inquiries!

I has truly been a pleasurable experience.Happy New Year and Thank You for your Support!

Warmest regards,

Jessie ChatmanIf you have any questions or concerns or would like to report a violation, please contact the Town Center at 407.888.2704 or [email protected].

All reports are kept confidential.

Getting To KnowYour Neighbor

Creates Community In our fast-paced, stress-filled world we often don't create the opportunities that we need in order to get to know our neighbors. In days past, good neighbor relations were the staple of every strong community.  Being able to share life's experiences, both good and bad, with those who live so close to us was once considered one of life's greatest blessings.  These days it is the exception rather than the rule to take the time to create strong relationships with the people we share our community with...and we are each the poorer because of it. Each one of us has a story to tell, a hand to lend, a laugh to share, and friendship to give. What keeps us from extending so much of ourselves to the families that live around our own may be those same things that prevent us from experiencing many of the great blessings of our parents or of our youth: A changing world that focuses more on the individual than the family and the need to remain isolated in order to feel "safe and secure." Someone once said, "If you always do the things you did, you'll always get the things you got." If we want to grow as a community then we have to risk breaking free from the bonds of isolation that are so easily created by and for us. We must reach out to our neighbors and let them know that they matter and that we care. If we do that, even in the most seemingly insignificant of ways - like a wave as we pass on the street - then we are moving toward a better community and a better way to live. Just because our culture has pushed us away from ourselves doesn't mean it is right, it just means that we have to work that much harder in order to reconnect with one another and create a better environment in which to live.

We NeedYour Help

On January 8, 2015, Dressed in Hope will resume workshops and will continue to meet every Thursday at 10:00 in the TownCenter. This is where our dedicated group of ladies convene to assemble and sew dresses and dolls for impoverished children around the world.

We have really good news to share with you. In December one of our members, Kathy Krieger, applied for and received a $250 grant from Thrivent Financial!

The Thrivent Foundation is a Fortune 500 financial services organization that helps support deserving and worthwhile projects and missions in a community. From helping end homelessness to giving children a head start in life, Thrivent offers these much needed grants to organizations who qualify. We considered the possibility that our group, Dressed in Hope, might be eligible for this grant money. We were thrilled when we were approved and then given the endowment shortly thereafter.

With this windfall of $250, we were able to purchase badly needed items that are seldom donated to us. With the proceeds from our neighborhood sale in the fall and this unexpected windfall, we hope to be able to have ongoing funds to purchase items throughout the year that are badly needed.

As always, we accept donations of fabric suitable for dresses—even a 1-yard piece of fabric will make a small dress.Come join us on any Thursday or if you prefer to work at home, we have projects that can easily be done at home in your spare time.

Thank you, Kathy for thinking of Dressed in Hope and bringing our needs to the attention of the good people at Thrivent Financial.

Happy, Happy New Year!!

“A new year is unfolding--like a blossom with petals curled tightly concealing the beauty within.” - Unknown

The year is 2015. It is a NEW year. It is a fresh, clean canvas to paint YOUR life in beautiful colors and textures that make YOU happy. Make this the year you accomplish those things on your “to-do list.” The time is now to live your authentic and true self. Many of us strive to make the perfect list of New Year’s resolutions. In a few short weeks after the new year, they are broken and forgotten. Each January, roughly one in three Americans resolve to better themselves in some way. A much smaller percentage actually make good on those resolutions. In a 2002 study, 75% of people stick to their goals for at least a week, less than half (46%) are still on target six months later. Why set yourself up to fail? Instead, toss out those resolutions and listen to your heart. Reflect on the “why” you made the resolution/goal. Instead of setting a goal to loose weight, find out YOUR why! For example, you want to be able to play with your kids or grandkids without feeling tired. Or, you want to feel better and not be in pain. Finding the “why” behind any goal will drive you to succeed. It is like putting gas in your car. It will fuel you to succeed and help you on your journey. Deprivation or elimination makes the human psyche want it more. Eliminate “bad” habits by slowly crowding out that behavior and replace it with something better. For instance, you may drink five diet sodas in a day. Replace one diet soda with a glass of water, and gradually reduce the amount of diet soda over time. Keep an open mind when setting personal goals and look within. Here are a few questions to get you started:

• What do YOU want to accomplish this year? • What do YOU want to improve? • What makes YOU happy? • How will it make YOU feel when you accomplish this goal?

To help you on your quest for optimal health and well-being, I’m hosting a Natural Solutions Wellness Series on the third Tuesday of every month starting this month at the Town Center. The classes are free and informative. I look forward to meeting you!!

Hopefully everyone found time to enjoy the holidays. We were able to stay on schedule, thus allowing our employees time with their families. We will continue to work hard in attempt to improve our service to the community. We look forward to a successful new year!

In Central Florida, January typically brings some cooler weather. Freezing temperatures are always a possibility. It normally does not stay cold enough for a long enough period of time to cause permanent damage to turf or plants. Most years just some tip burn that can be cut back in the spring, encouraging new growth. There are many plants in VillageWalk

that are sensitive to the cold. All palms (except the Sabals), most shrubs which produce flowers and shrubs that have foliage color other than green are susceptible. If you ever decide you want to cover something, it is much better to use cloth vs. plastic. Always remove cover at least some when temperatures rise during the day to allow the plants to breathe. Our maintenance team will continue mowing on a bi-weekly schedule this month, as long as there is sufficient growth. If anything changes that pattern your HOA will inform you. We will continue our detail rotation of approximately every three weeks. Our agronomic team will continue their normal rotation treating as needed throughout the community. Turf weeds and diseases are common this time of year. Always, let us know if you think you may have a problem. Our irrigation team continues to work hard every day to monitor usage and be sure there is adequate moisture to sustain healthy turf and plants. Some rain would help. Always keep in mind that irrigation is designed to supplement rainfall, not replace it. If you have any questions or concerns please use our customer service system or contact your HOA. We wish you all the best in the new year!

On behalf of the entire Down To Earth team I would like to wish everyone a very prosperous new year!

Health TipsTurn Up The Tunes For Better Health

Medical researchers have proven that the music legend was ahead of his time when he linked music and health. In fact, we now know that music transcends entertainment and holds great medical power-from reducing pain to boosting memory. Here are some of the most common benefits of music: - Reduces Stress – Listening to music triggers a biochemical response in most people that reduces stress. It’s commonly used as a tool to reduce anxiety in cancer patients. Music has even been used to help relax Parkinson’s patients during surgery where they are required to stay awake because it slows the neuronal firings deep within the brain, significantly decreasing stress and trauma. However, the choice of music is important since certain songs can trigger negative emotional responses. - Eases Pain – Slow musical beats can alter brainwave speed to create a meditative or hypnotic state. Some research suggests that using rhythmic stimuli to induce these states can have a therapeutic effect, easing symptoms of migraines, PMS and even behavioral issues. - Soothes Babies – While lullabies have long been played around the world, they have a very special place in neonatal intensive care units where they have shown to improve heart rates and breathing. In fact, babies exposed to music often have better feeding and sleep patterns. - Boosts Cognitive Abilities – Background music may enhance performance on cognitive tasks, and is even believed to improve the ability of test takers to answer more questions correctly. However, the music choice must be appropriate to the situation. Additionally, researchers in Hong Kong believe there’s a link between the amount of music training a child receives and their verbal memory. - Protects the Aging Brain – As a person ages, having musical training is believed to protect mental sharpness. Researchers found that people who had the most musical training during their lives had the best mental sharpness and scored highest on brain functioning tests. And it’s never too late to begin. A study of adults ages 60 to 85 demonstrated that after six months, those who received piano lessons showed more robust gains in memory, verbal fluency, planning ability and other cognitive functions, compared to those who did not receive lessons. - Improves Exercise Performance – Music is one of the best distractions while exercising, often boosting performance by 15 percent. Many people say their favorite music helps put them “in the zone” and maintain a certain pace. When choosing music, however, it shouldn’t be too fast. Songs that have between 120 and 140 beats per minute generally have the maximum effect for most people. While the mental and physical benefits of music vary from person to person, research has proven its benefits. So the next time you’re thinking about making positive health changes, an effective prescription might be found in your music collection. So go ahead and turn up the tunes!

Area Rugs -An Important Design Detail!

In Florida, it is pretty typical to find tile in many homes. This is true for a few reasons; since most homes are built on a cement slab, that slab offers a good stable base for the tile. It is easy to keep clean and also keeps the room and floors cooler than many other surfaces. However, tile can be hard on your feet if you have to stand on it for long periods of time and because it is a hard surface sound bounces off of it which is not always desirable. So, how do we compensate for the negatives? We choose area rugs. Area rugs not only add comfort to stand on, but also an important design element. They can bring pattern, texture, color and depth to a space. They will help with the acoustics and help to anchor a space and prevent furniture from sliding. Now let’s talk about how to choose the right rug. It is important to purchase a rug that fills the space correctly. A rug that is too large will not look right. One that is too small will appear to be floating in the middle of the space and make a room feel choppy. For example in a dining room make sure the table and all of the chairs fit on the rug allowing enough space all around for the chairs to be pulled out when in use and still remain on the rug. In a living room, the rug should define the conversation area. A good guideline to follow is that at least the front feet of all the furniture should be sitting on the rug. However, it is better still if all four feet of the furniture will fit on the rug. Typically, you will need minimally an 8’X10” rug for a normal sized living room. Rarely, will a 5’X7’ rug be large enough; yet that is what is often displayed in many furniture stores. Next you want to be sure that the color, texture, and pattern work with all of the other furniture, window treatments art and accessories. Finally, rugs can have a huge variance in price, usually based upon the way they were made and by the materials used. Hand-knotted wool or silk rugs are very expensive, but you can get great looking machine made rugs quite reasonably. In the end you want to choose a rug that enhances the feel, look and comfort of a room.

Xylitol Poisoning

In DogsBy: Julie Jacobs

If you want to learn about other natural substitutes to use that are safer for you and your pet, please contact me at 407-982-8351 or [email protected]

Source:"New Findings on the Effects of Xylitol Ingestion in Dogs". Veterinary Medicine, Dec 2006' pages 791-797.

DID YOU KNOW...1. Xylitol is becoming a more frequent cause of

toxicity in dogs.2. It can cause severe symptoms even death.3. It most commonly happens with dogs eating

products made for people including gum, candy, toothpaste, sweeteners, medications and more.

4. If you choose to get medications from a human pharmacy, be sure to have the pharmacist research whether any Xylitol is in the product and speak to your vet before giving ANY medication to your pet.

LEARN HOW TO AVOID POISONING YOUR PETS There are an increasing number of cases of dogs getting sick from ingesting a common sugar substitute, xylitol. This is commonly found in sweeteners, sugar-free gum, & candy, toothpaste and more. This substance causes no problems in people, but in dogs it can cause wild fluctuations in blood sugar, often leading to a severe hypoglycemia. It can also cause liver failure. Xylitol is widely used as a sugar substitute since it is as sweet as sucrose but has only one–third of the calories. It is a naturally occurring alcohol found in some plant material. It is extracted from birch wood to make the commercial product. The types of items where xylitol can be found are increasing. It is common in sugarless gum, mints, and candies. It can be found in some foodstuffs, such as baked goods. It is present in some toiletries, such as toothpaste, mouthwash, and other oral care products, such as Crest White Strips. It is found in some over-the-counter medicines: nasal sprays, Flintstones Children's Vitamins, Beano liquid drops, and Nicorette gum. Some tube feeding formulas contain xylitol. Even some prescription medications, specifically Mobic oral suspension,  Gabapentin oral solution, and Zegrid contain xylitol.

SYMPTOMS OF XYLITOL POISONING IN DOGS Once a dog ingests xylitol, symptoms may occur in minutes to hours. At lower doses, hypoglycemia is common. You might notice the dog acting weak, staggering, unable to walk, or even seizing.  At higher doses, it frequently causes liver failure. With this you may see a loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, and jaundice. It does not take much xylitol to make a dog sick. Even one to two pieces of sugarless gum can cause disease in a small dog.  The problem is that xylitol is not always listed as an ingredient on the label,  or the amount of xylitol in the product may not be detailed. Often it is listed in "Inactive Ingredients," or "Other Ingredients," but sometimes it is grouped together with other compounds as "sugar alcohols", or it is not listed at all.   Veterinarians and veterinary pharmaceutical companies are well aware of this problem, so this is not the source of problems. Dogs become sick when they chew up people's food, toiletries, or medicine containing Xylitol; the other common method of toxicity is when people pick up medications at a human pharmacy for use in their dog. This may be in commercial prescription medications (especially liquids, as they are trying to improve the flavor for people by sweetening their product), or in compounded medications. Always ask the pharmacist to look in their references to see if xylitol is an ingredient in a medicine before giving it to your dog. They undoubtedly will not know this already since it is not an active ingredient and this problem does not occur in people. Always consult your veterinarian before administering any medications to your dog.
