When you call yourself Big Sky, you better have the goods to back it up. Situat-ed in the Montana Rockies, Big Sky Re-sort certainly does back it up by giving skiers and snow-boarders access to more terrain than anywhere in the Unit-ed States, 300 runs covering 5,750 acres. MADESIMO, ITALY & TUSCANY EXTENSION By Patty Shearer

Join me on another fabulous Italian Adventure as we travel to Madesimo, located in the Spluga Valley of the Italian Alps, north of Lake Como and close to the Swiss border. The Lombardy region is known as the richest province in Italy, having the most UNESCO World Her-itage sites. Offering more than 37 miles of downhill slopes and 12.5 miles of cross-country trails, Madesimo is the largest of the Val-chiavenna ski areas.

Skiers and snow-boarders who enjoy long runs and see-forever views will appreciate the re-so r t ’ s famous “Canalone” trail, which connects Piz-zo Groppiera and Pian dei Larici via a 3,200-vertical-foot drop over 1.8 miles. This trail has been described as “the most beautiful slope in the Alps … a work of art”. Madesimo has excellent snowmaking capabilities, ensur-ing skiers have optimal conditions. The ski season begins in November and goes until late Spring. Freestyle skiers and snowboarders enjoy defying gravity at Acquarela Snowpark. Three gondolas and nine hi-speed chairlifts transport skiers around the slopes. The village is at 5,086 feet, with the top ski station being 9,842 feet. Walking the one block from the hotel to the lift is a cinch.

The Sky Express, the most modern underground cable railway in Europe, climbs the 638km that separate Campodolcino from Motta in only three minutes, where you will find slopes connected with and served by all lifts. The lift system has been entirely renovated during recent years featuring a cable railway, automatic cou-pling lifts with dome-shaped protection, and pro-grammed snowmaking systems. This has allowed this resort to reach the level of the best ski resort in the Alps.

Skiing, carving and snowboard competitions are held in a reserved area at Arlecchino on the FIS Montalto ski slope, which is among the best for variety and difficulty for high-level competitions.

Variety of the slopes, tracks in the high mountains and through the woods, convenience of being able to

reach the village on skis, are the features that make Madesimo one of the most hospitable and famous tourist resorts in the Alps.

Hotel Andossi: This family run 4 hotel has been owned and operated by the Masanti family for more than 50 years. The restaurant is under the watchful eye of the owner's son, Andrea, who serves national and interna-tional cuisine. Bar duties fall under Paolo who creates new 'aperitifs' daily.

Tuscany Hotel: Hotel Villa Cap-pugi, a 4 hotel offers Tuscan tradition and modern comforts in a welcoming and elegant facil-ity. The restau-r a n t , “Col legigliato” features excellent Tuscan cuisine with traditional local specialties. Pisa / Luca / Mon-tecarlo Tour: Guided tour in Pisa with stops at Miracles Square and the Leaning Tower, along

with admission to Baptistry and Duomo of “Piazza dei Miracoli”. We are then on to Lucca for some Shopping (Hello Ladies!). Finally we will enjoy a Tuscan dinner at “Fattoria il Poggio” (a farm house) including a guided tour of the cellars and winery estate.

Chianti Shire Tour: Our first stop of the day will be in Castellina for sightseeing and shopping. We’ll travel to Gaiole for a guided tour of the Castle including another fabulous lunch and wine tasting. Our final stop of the day will be in Greve.

Don’t ski or want a day off the slopes? There is plenty to do including sledding, ice skating, snowmobiling and more. Trip Price:

$2,219 – After August 18th

Fall Line kicks off its 50th anniversary (I wonder if the club is now AARP-eligible) with a trip to Killington, Ver-mont. We return to a perennial favorite in Vermont on the weekend of January 8-10. We will be staying at the Inn of the Six Mountains, right on the access road. The Inn has recently been purchased and is undergoing extensive ren-ovations by the new owners. You can easily get to one of the many fantastic restaurants on the access road or enjoy the Inn’s cozy Cedars Restaurant. Look at the beautiful views as you enjoy a great complimentary hot buffet breakfast each morning. The Inn provides complimentary shuttle service right to the mountain. It also includes an indoor pool and a hot tub for relaxing after a hard day of skiing. Wireless internet in public areas and complimen-tary computer use in the lobby to check those important emails are also provided.

The trip includes round trip motor coach from Mt. Lau-rel to Killington with beer, wine, and soda included, 2 nights lodging at The Inn (double occupancy), and 2-day lift ticket. The Killington trip opens on September 15 at the early sign-up price of $389. Look for more infor-mation in the August newsletter.

This trip is still looking for a leader. Please contact Patty Shearer at [email protected] or John Kennedy at [email protected] if you are interested.

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY (RIVER) 2016 Save the dates: February 5-8, Fall Line invades the

beautiful Maine resort of Sunday River on Super Bowl Sunday. With any luck (okay, a lot of luck), the Eagles will be on display like they were in 2005. This is a 3-day ski trip that includes lodg-ing at the Snow Cap Inn (within walking dis-tance to the lifts, but there are free shuttles to the lifts), continental

breakfast, 3-day lift ticket,. The trip includes round trip motor coach from Mt. Lau-

rel to Sunday River with beer, wine, and soda included, 3 nights lodging at The Snow Cap (double occupancy), and 3-day lift ticket. Sunday River opens on September 15 at the early sign-up price of $569. More to come in the Au-gust newsletter.

Deb Taraska will be your leader.

Let’s go to the Rodeo...Yee-haa . . . Saturday, August 8, 2015 - 4:30 PM – Fun Tailgate Party - 7:00 PM - Rodeo By Marion Rosener

Enjoy Professional Rodeo in the true tradition of the Old West right here in Southern New Jersey.

Cowtown Rodeo is the oldest weekly running rodeo in the U.S.! It’s a unique experience and if you have never seen live rodeo, you are

in for a special treat. If you dare, you can wear your

best cowboy or cowgirl outfit; but a pair of jeans and a plaid

shirt will do also. Two local outfitters are

located close-by where they sell

everything from h e a d to toe.

Part of the Evening’s Events and Demonstrations are: Bull Riding; Bareback Bronc Riding; Saddle Bronc

Riding; Steer Wrestling; Tie Down Roping; Team Roping; Girls Barrel Racing

Tailgating (fun, fun, fun…): The last few years we always had the greatest time

outside in the parking lot (almost didn’t want to leave). For the tailgating bring a chair, food to share and your favorite beverages. Later, a small cooler of alcoholic beverages is permitted inside the rodeo.

Parking is free but carpooling is encouraged. If you wish to carpool, some people may meet at 4:00 PM from the Woodcrest Shopping Center (Route 561 – Had-donfield Berlin Road; Cherry Hill, but I will NOT be there. You will need to communicate with each other about carpooling.) If you want to meet us in the park-ing lot at the Rodeo, look for our tailgate party. Usually on the left side as you pass the entrance. Look for Joe’s tan TUNDRA pick-up truck).

Tickets are $15 CASH pp (adults); Groups of 25 or more are $10 adults (let’s get the discount). In order to get the discount tickets, I’ll collect all the cash at 6:45 during our tailgate and purchase the tickets. Anyone coming after I’ve purchased the group tickets can join our group, but need to purchase their own ticket at reg-ular ticket office prices.

At 7:00 PM sharp we go in as a group to get our seats and the Rodeo starts at 7:30 PM. It would be fun if you’d wear your finest Cowboy / Cowgirl outfit.

Please, as a courtesy to me and so that I can plan for the tailgate and know if we will qualify for group tick-ets, contact Marion Rosener via email no later than Au-gust 6th at [email protected] or by cell phone (856) 904-5565 especially if you wish to tailgate before the event.

Due to the rising cost of printing color copies and and mailing, effective the July 21 general meeting anyone who completes a new membership application who choos-es to still have a newsletter mailed to them and chooses to pay an extra $5 for the membership year will have a black and white newsletter mailed to them. If you have already paid your membership for the 2015-2016 ski season and checked off that you wished to continue to receive the newsletter by mail, your newsletter will no longer be in color print. As before, the newsletter will be available on-line and anyone who is a current member with a working email will be notified when the newsletter is available on line. Thank you in advance for your understand-ing. Janice Lynch, Newsletter Editor and the Fall Line Board.

July 21st 2015: Opening Night Winter Trip Sign-Up Procedure

By Patty Shearer FLSC will be following the proce-

dures outlined below for trip sign-ups for the 2016 ski season. 1. At 6:30 pm on July

21st numbered tickets (3x5 index cards) will be available to be handed out in Marco’s at the Pennsauken Country Club. Each opening trip will have a different colored ticket and no tickets will be handed out before this time. An individual can only signup themselves and one other person on opening night. Therefore, each individual will only be allowed two (2) numbered tickets, no exceptions, for each trip.

2. Sign-ups will begin when the trip leader arrives, is fully set-up and ready to accept signups. If you leave the meeting after obtaining your numbered ticket, please make sure you are back and ready by 7:15 pm. You can come early to enjoy some wonderful food and great drinks from Marco’s restaurant! Marco’s is giving a special discount just for Fall Lin-ers: $4 glass house wine, $3 domestic beer, $4 all mixed drinks and 50% off selected appetizers. a. Numbers will be called in order. Please stay fo-

cused to make sure you hear your number when it is called. Trip leaders will only wait a few minutes before moving on to the next number. If you are signing up for more than one trip, please bring a separate check for each trip.

b. You must be a current member of FLSC in order to sign up for a trip. If you have not renewed or are a new member and the membership table is not available at the beginning of signups, you may sign up for the trip but must complete your mem-bership obligation by the end of that evening. Please bring a separate check for membership. If you have not secured your current membership by the end of that evening and informed the trip leader, you will be removed from the trip and put on the waiting list for the trip.

c. Additionally, please remember that we require everyone signing up for a trip that includes air to provide the trip leader with a copy of your pass-port or driver’s license (whichever document you will be using when boarding the plane). This is a provision from the tour operators and will allevi-ate errors in names provided to the tour operator and for you to avoid the fees that the airline

charges for name changes. If you do not provide the same ID as you provided the trip leader when you arrive at the airport, you will be responsible for the fee to change the ticket. Some of the trips this year are smaller trips with a limited number of openings. Please carefully review the proce-dures set forth to make sure you are not disap-pointed.

3. When signing up for a trip please make sure that you have the following items completed and ready to be handed to the trip leader in order to expedite the pro-cess: a. Completed Trip Sign Up Form b. Current Membership Card c. Check made payable to “FLSC” with the trip name

in the memo section. 4. Early sign-up pricing:

a. Early sign up pricing will be available as follows: i. Weeklong trips: First two meetings trip opens ii. Weekend trips: First meeting trip op ens

5. Cancellations: a. Please review the specific trip cancellation poli-

cies listed on the information sheet. Cancellation fees vary depending on the fees charged by the vendor for unused air and/or ground spots.

b. Cancellation fees also apply if the trip winds up with a smaller number than contracted as a result of a cancellation. There are firm deadlines for all aspects of a trip.

c. In the unfortunate event that you must cancel, you can alleviate your losses by doing so as early as possible. You are not considered cancelled until your notification has been acknowledged by the trip leader. However, should your cancellation result in an appropriate replacement not being found, you will be responsible for the single sup-plement, should there be one.

d. If you do not have a roommate and one cannot be found for you, you will be responsible for the sin-gle supplement charge.

e. Trip cancellation insurance is highly recommend-ed. Please contact your trip leader for more infor-mation.

6. Land Only: a. If you choose the “land only” option for a trip

where it is offered you must be prepared to pro-vide your own transportation to / from the Airport should your flights not coincide with the group flight.

If you need further information or clarification of the above, please contact Patty Shearer, Winter Trip Chair, at 856-220-5419 or email at [email protected]. Your cooperation on trip opening night is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for traveling again with Fall Line Ski Club this year!
