Tragedy Averted, Soul Converted

As Josefa cooked on her small woodstove, the fire became too

hot. Flames leapt up the chimney in her humble home. Once the greedy blaze reached the ceiling, it appeared the entire dwelling would be devoured.

For some time a Bible worker, Ezequiel Martinez, had been visiting Josefa Dominguez and her family in San Rafael, Mexico. Ezequiel works with the Creel Tarahumara Mission and Seventh-day Adventist church in San Rafael. Despite her family’s interest, Josefa remained indifferent to the Bible studies that Ezequiel offered.

However, when her home caught fire, Providence alerted Ezequiel to the crisis; he quickly climbed to the roof and poured water on the burning home.

For more than 15 years, Creel Tarahumara Mission has been sharing Christ with the marginalized people living in the Sierra Madre Mountains of northern Mexico. $3,000 will help the ministry finish construction on a church they are supporting in Bocoyna.

With the help of neighbors, the fire was extinguished and Josefa’s house was saved.

Josefa was so grateful for Ezequiel’s help that she allowed him to share more about God’s love, and they began studying the Bible on a regular basis. God’s hope thrilled Josefa’s heart and she accepted Him as her personal Savior.

Conducting outreach in villages like Josefa’s is a large part of what Creel Tarahumara Mission does. Last September the small team started a training school for missionaries. During 2011, the project held training seminars in six district churches, encouraging church members to learn more effective ways of sharing the gospel. By the end of the year, 52 people had been baptized.

Despite the blessing of new church members, there are also challenges. Currently the team is working to finish construction on a church in another Tarahumara community. The ministry is trusting that God will provide the necessary means to continue His work and asks for your prayers and support as they witness to others like Josefa. p

Stress LessWorking with members of a local

Seventh-day Adventist church, the Center for Health and Prevention, an OCI member ministry in Bulgaria, helped organize a stress seminar in late 2011. Participants (pictured at right) learned about phases of stress and types of stressors, as well as how to manage and get rid of stress and overcome negative emotions. Members of Evangelical and Orthodox churches also attended. As a result, two women expressed a desire to study the Bible, and one is regularly attending church. Another three people want to enroll in cooking classes.p

Water of LifeKibidula Farm Institute’s primary

school provides quality education to 100 students. Yet it currently lacks an adequate water supply. Because of Tanzania’s long dry season, both the students and the school gardens need a well-functioning water system. Kibidula is blessed with several nearby springs; however, although the water is available, it needs to be transported to the school. A solar pump was purchased, but a 1,300-yard pipeline must be installed to complete the new system, which the ministry hopes to have finished before the next dry season starts in June.p

$2,200 will purchase water pipeline for the primary school.kibidula.org
