January 20, 2012 Drilling, Chiseling, Filing, Cutting & Sanding in the Stem What I did? Today I finished drilling in the sides of the stem, and then I chiseled the area so that part of the leaf could fit in. Once that is completed, I remembered that I had to sand one side of the stem to make it more stem like. I measured a curved angle on one side of the stem, used a tenon saw to cut up close to the line and then sand the rest away and make it into a smooth curve. Also, I have to smoothen and round all the sharp edges of every piece I have. I spent the rest of the lesson smoothing all the pieces.

Drilling, Chiseling, Filing, Cutting & Sanding in the Stem

What I did?Today I finished drilling in the sides of the stem, and then I chiseled the area so that part of the leaf could fit in.

Tools, Machines, Equipments Used:– Apron, goggles, vice, pencil, tri-square and eraser.– Tenon saw– Pedestal drill, drill bit, I also used a chuck this time!!– Disk sander– Flat file– Chisel and hammer

What’s Next?I will need to glue and attach the leaves onto the stem. Then probably attach the hooks and then focus on the mirror. Now that I look at it, I’m not that far off to finish the project!

Learner Profiles and Emotions/Feelings:I am being knowledgeable because, I have learnt everything last year and so I can do things without being told. Though one new thing was the chuck, I could manage to use it but I wasn’t so sure so I asked for help.
