Reflection of the Gospel:

The evangelist John’s story of Christ’s baptism,

told from the perspective of John the Baptist de-

scribed the descent of the Holy Spirit upon Jesus.

For John the Baptist, this served as God’s confir-

mation of Jesus, the Son of God, as the one who

baptizes with the Holy Spirit. John the Baptist

looms large in the first chapter of John’s account,

especially in his “testimony” about Jesus.

Through his testimony, John “marks straight the

way of the Lord”. When Jesus appears to begin

his ministry, John fades from the scene, his

mission accomplished.

He has “seen and testified” that Jesus is the Son

of God, the “Lamb of God who takes away the sin

of the world,”

“John makes straight the way of the Lord”.

Reflexión del Evangelio:

La historia del evangelista Juan sobre el bautismo

de Cristo, contada desde la perspectiva de Juan el

Bautista, describió el descenso del Espíritu Santo

sobre Jesús. Para Juan el Bautista, esto sirvió como

la confirmación de Dios de Jesús, el Hijo de Dios,

como el que bautiza con el Espíritu Santo. Juan el

Bautista se destaca en el primer capítulo del relato

de Juan, especialmente en su "testimonio" sobre

Jesús. A través de su testimonio, Juan "marca

directamente el camino del Señor". Cuando Jesús

parece comenzar su ministerio, Juan se desvanece

de la escena, su misión cumplida.

Él "vio y testificó", que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios,

El "Cordero de Dios que quita el pecado del

mundo", "Juan endereza el camino asía El Señor".

Señor Jesucristo, lléname con el poder de tu Espíritu Santo y déjame

crecer en el conocimiento de tu gran amor y verdad. Deja que tu

Espíritu esté en llamas en mi corazón para que pueda conocerte y

amarte más fervientemente y esforzarme por hacer tu voluntad.

Lord Jesus Christ, fill me with the power of your Holy

Spirit and let me grow in the knowledge of your great love

and truth. Let your Spirit be aflame in my heart that I may

know and love you more fervently and strive to do your will.

MINISTRY ASSIGNMENT

Some Words from the Pastor: The Christmas season is over, it seems so quiet

again. After those joyful and intimate

celebrations with families and friends, now we

are back to our usual chores. I remember that in

one of our reflections during the advent season,

the question was: “After Christmas, what?” In our liturgical

calendar, we are back to the Ordinary Time. And we are back

to the color green for our vestments and hangings. Green is a

color that symbolizes hope and growth. I believe that we can

now go from here. After the Christmas season, we hope to

grow continually in our faith in God, and grow in our

relationship with one another. One author writes, ‘green is

primarily associated with growth and reflects the seasons of

spring and summer in the natural world. He makes a reference

from the book Holy Sacrifice of the Mass by Nicholas Gihr

which says: “Green is in harmony with the very nature of the

Church. She is a Mighty Tree which lifts its top majestically

toward heaven. She is the Watered Garden of the Lord. Christ,

the Good Shepherd leads his sheep to ever green pastures. The

Church clothes herself in green vestments to express her

joyous, lively hope of the ever lovely and eternally verdant

meadows of the heavenly paradise. Thus, the green color urges

us to grow in our spiritual life that we may be led into the

Promised Land of Heaven.

The word ordinary time may sound static or usual. But it is not.

It calls to a lively and joyful participation in the life of the

church. It is something dynamic as it leads us to hope and live

our faith in our Lord Jesus. We are invited to see him as John

the Baptist in the gospel would say, “Behold the Lamb of God,

who takes away the sin of the world. We need to see Jesus in

each one of us. We behold him in the sacraments, especially in

the Eucharist. We behold and receive him through his Body

and Blood. As he nourishes us through his word and sacrament,

may we grow in faith, hope and love.

Algunas Palabras Del Sacerdote: La temporada de Navidad ha terminado, parece

tan tranquilo otra vez. Después de esas

celebraciones alegres e íntimas con familiares y

amigos, ahora volvemos a nuestras tareas

habituales. Recuerdo que en una de nuestras

reflexiones durante la temporada de adviento, la

pregunta era: "Después de Navidad, ¿qué?" En nuestro

calendario litúrgico, volvemos al Tiempo Ordinario. Y

volvemos al color verde para nuestras vestimentas y cortinas. El

verde es un color que simboliza la esperanza y el crecimiento.

Creo que ahora podemos ir desde aquí. Después de la

temporada navideña, esperamos crecer continuamente en

nuestra fe en Dios, y crecer en nuestra relación unos con otros.

Un autor escribe: ‘el verde se asocia principalmente con el

crecimiento y refleja las estaciones de primavera y verano en el

mundo natural. Hace una referencia del libro Santo sacrificio de

la misa de Nicholas Gihr que dice: “El verde está en armonía

con la naturaleza misma de la Iglesia. Ella es un árbol poderoso

que levanta su cima majestuosamente hacia el cielo. Ella es el

jardín regado del Señor. Cristo, el Buen Pastor lleva a sus

ovejas a pastos siempre verdes. La Iglesia se viste con

vestimentas verdes para expresar su alegre y viva esperanza de

los siempre encantadores y eternamente verdes prados del

paraíso celestial. Por lo tanto, el color verde nos insta a crecer

en nuestra vida espiritual para que podamos ser conducidos a la

Tierra Prometida del Cielo.

La palabra tiempo ordinario puede sonar estática o habitual.

Pero no lo es. Llama a una participación viva y alegre en la vida

de la iglesia. Es algo dinámico, ya que nos lleva a la esperanza y

a vivir nuestra fe en nuestro Señor Jesús. Estamos invitados a

verlo como Juan el Bautista en el evangelio diría: “He aquí el

Cordero de Dios, que quita el pecado del mundo. Necesitamos

ver a Jesús en cada uno de nosotros. Lo contemplamos en los

sacramentos, especialmente en la Eucaristía. Lo contemplamos

y lo recibimos a través de su Cuerpo y Sangre. A medida que

nos nutre a través de su palabra y sacramento, que crezcamos en

fe, esperanza y amor.
