27 “But I say to you who listen: Love your enemies, do what is good to those who hate you,

28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

29 If anyone hits you on the cheek, offer the other also. And if anyone takes away your coat,

don’t hold back your shirt either.

30 Give to everyone who asks you, and from someone who takes your things, don’t ask

for them back.

31 Just as you want others to do for you, do the same for them.

32 If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those

who love them.

33 If you do what is good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you?

Even sinners do that.

34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you?

Even sinners lend to sinners to be repaid in full.

35 But love your enemies, do what is good, and lend, expecting nothing in return. Then your

reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High. For he is gracious to the

ungrateful and evil.

36 Be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.

37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned.

Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

38 Give, and it will be given to you; a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and

running over—will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured

back to you.”

God’s Word - Devoted to Him

“We want too much guaranteed in advance; we forget that faith is

the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Vance Havner

We Live by Revelation Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but happy is he who keeps the law. Proverbs 29:18

The world operates on vision. God's people live by revelation. The world seeks grand and noble purposes and goals to achieve. People dream up the greatest and most satisfying things in which they can invest their lives. Institutions establish goals and objectives and then organize themselves to achieve them. God's people function in a radically different way. Christians arrange their lives based on the revelation of God, regardless of whether it makes sense to them. God does not ask for our opinion about what is best for our future, our family, our church, or our country. He already knows! What God wants is to get the attention of His people and reveal to us what is on His heart and what is His will, for God's ways are not our ways! (Isa. 55:8–9). Whenever people do not base their lives on God's revelation, they “cast off restraint.” That is, they do what is right in their own eyes. They set their goals, arrange their agendas, and then pray for God's blessings. Some Christians are living far outside the will of God, yet they have the audacity to pray and ask God to bless their efforts! The only way for you to know God's will is for Him to reveal it to you. You will never discover it on your own. When you hear from the Father, you have an immediate agenda for your life: obedience. As the writer of Proverbs observed: “Happy is he who keeps the law.” From Experiencing God Day By Day

Memory Verse: Luke 4:18-19

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

$ How we guard it $ “...You have heaped up treasure in the last days.”

James 5:1-3

Emphasizing the perishable nature of worldly riches, James 5:2-3 says, “your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days.” All three verbs are in the perfect tense. James was so certain of the temporary nature of riches that he described their decay as having already happened. He was showing us the present worthless state of our possessions. The first century world did not have certificates of deposit or stock certificates. Their wealth was measured in grain, garments, and gold. When James said, “Your wealth has rotted,” he was referring to grain. A man’s worth was often determined by the amount of grain he could store in his barn. Remember the rich fool had many goods laid up for future years. But grain rots. How does grain rot? By lack of use. Our guarded wealth, like grain, is decadent. If we don’t use it, it does us no good and we eventually lose it.
