Pastor Sue’s Newsletter Article
January 2019
Eternal God, you have placed us in a world of space and time, and through
the events of our lives you bless us with your love. Grant that in the new
year we may know your presence, see your love at work, and live in the
light of the event that gives us joy forever—the coming of your Son, Jesus
Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God,
now and forever. Amen. (ELW p.63)
This prayer is from our hymnal for New Year’s Eve. I’ve always been in-
trigued by the sentence, “through the events of our lives you bless us with
your love.” I hope you can take some time and look back at 2018—the
good, the bad, and the ugly and see the blessings that have come from
those events that shaped us and changed us.
We often don’t like to look back at the painful memories and sometimes
we aren’t emotionally able to do that for a while, but when we can, it is
helpful to look for ways you felt blessed, for blessings that you received
from others. God wants us to know His infinite love, comfort, and courage
and He does that through others. Even during the worst times of our life,
look for the light of God. It comes in ways we may not expect or even
notice at the time, but when we look back, it’s always there.
So, as we stand at the edge of a new year, a year full of hopes and dreams,
of anticipation and anxiety, remember that God goes ahead of us. He
knows our every thought, our every need, our every longing. God does not
cause the bad things in our life and in our world to happen. God is with us
to handle whatever comes our way because He loves us and has claimed
us as His beloved child. Forever.
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Sue
For surely I know the plans I have for you,
says the LORD, plans for your welfare and
not for harm, to give you a future with
hope. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Dine to Donate Looking for a good reason to go out to dinner?
How about having Texas Roadhouse donate 10%
of your bill back to the church. Dine with
Texas Roadhouse, 4841 Annamark Drive,
Madison, on Sundays from 11am to 9pm
(available every Sunday, every week) and they
will do just that. Show your server your
bulletin from that Sunday morning to receive
the donation. Let’s eat!!
Christ Lutheran Church Annual Meeting
Sunday, February 3, 2019
Following the 10:30 worship service
Thank you to all those who participated
in providing gifts for the Giving Tree.
We collected 80 gifts for families and
the elderly in our community. In addi-
tion, we were able to donate turkeys to
the families and residents of the
Community Center with extra money
from Thanksgiving.
Finally, thank you to the minis-
tries committee who collected the gifts
and made sure they were delivered in
time for Christmas!
Thank you!!
Thank You to everyone in our
congregation for supporting the
Social Ministries Committee in the
numerous ministries we provided in
2018. You are all very generous.
Also, thank you to all of the ladies
who help provide delicious food and
donate their time to help with
funeral lunches. You are always so
willing to help and the families are
so grateful. This would not be possi-
ble without your support.

Adult Education Beginning January 6, 2019 the Adult Education Group will begin a
six week study based on the book, I’d Like You Better if You Were
More Like Me, by John Ortberg. Considering the current divisive-
ness in our Country this seemed like an appropriate study. We are
divided on politics, religion, race, sexual orientation, level of edu-
cation, and just about anything else you can think of. This is not
healthy physically or emotionally, and it is probably breaking
God’s heart. He sent his son to teach us how to live. Jesus taught
by example. He reached out to the downtrodden, the outcast, the
loner and he expects us to do the same. He lived showing us how
to love our neighbor and he died for all God’s children. We all have the same Father
and we need to learn to love each other like the brothers and sisters we are. Come
and join us for this study and conversation. We meet upstairs in the Conference
Room from 9:20 to 10:10. That allows for time to stop in the friendship room for re-
freshments and conversation on both ends of class.
Membership Directory UpdateWe want to let all know that we
have sent in the final proof of our
Directory to have it published. We
wanted to make sure it was correct
before we had it published. We are
hoping to have copies by mid-
January.
Thanks to all who helped on this project.
