Police Vehicles Get LoJack Car System

The C1ty of Greenbelt has followed. the lead of the State of Maryland,. Prince George•s County and several other lo­cal municipalities by joining forces with· the LoJack Auto Recovery 'Network. Three LoJ.ick trcicking systems were recently installed in Greenbelt Police vehicles at no charge. LoJack is an autO thef~ recov­ery system operated by police that a.l:lows them to turn on a Lo!ack transmi-tter in a stolen car.. Using the LoJack, poliCe hav""e an arrest record th<.~.t i:. five times the national a_..;er­age for stolen cars.

The partnershtp between the police arid LoJack will serve as a major deterrent t_o car theft. as it is impossible to tell which cars -are equipped with th~ system. Because of this, car thieves will now be expOsed to a higher risk of arrest.

LoJack guarantees that cars equipped with the system will be reCovered within 24 hours .. When a vehicle equipped with the LoJack system is stolen, the owner immediately con-
