This week our school has undergone a full school review, which is the standard review type forQueensland state schools. Our last school review took place in 2015 and was a Priority School Review. All Queensland state schools are reviewed by the School Improvement Unit (SIU) at least once every four years. The reviews are an important part of how the department supports and monitors schools. The reviews provide schools with independent feedback tailored to their context and needs. Schools are generally reviewed in the year that they are due to update their four-year strategic plan. Findings and feedback from the reviews are a valuable input into this process. Reviewers look close-ly at each school’s performance data and speak with a wide range of staff, students, parents and community members to get an accurate picture of the school. Unlike many other review systems, schools aren’t ranked or given a performance rating but are supported with a comprehensive report for consideration. The report details key findings and recommended improvement strategies to maximise student outcomes. Principals are encouraged to share this information with their staff and school communi-ty to help shape the school’s strategic direction. Our review will finish up today with the review team providing an Exec-utive Summary that will be published and shared with our school community. I look forward to sharing this with our school community as a way of showcasing the great work that our staff have been doing since the last review. The review will also provide our school with a direction for the next four years. I would like to thank the staff and students in supporting and speaking with the review team members. I would also like to acknowledge and thank those parents who took the time to speak with review team as this is greatly appreciated. Over the coming weeks, I will share information that comes from the school review.

Just a reminder to all our school community that our P&C will be holding their Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Monday 18th March 2019 in the school library. All posi-tions will be declared vacant. P&C’s need people from all walks of life with a range of talents who are committed to delivering great outcomes for our children at school. A lot can and has been achieved through our P&C and school working together.

This Friday is the National Day of Action – Bullying No Way!

Our school will be participating in and supporting this National Day of Action by holding a sausage sizzle and allowing students to wear orange to show our support for this worthy cause! I strongly urge parents to visit the Bullying No Way Website and speak with your child/ren about what bullying is and how to deal with it https://bullyingnoway.gov.au/YourRole/Pages/For-Parents-and-carers.aspx . Over the last two weeks we have been

learning present and past tense words. This

helps us when we are writing and also how

we speak. Students have enjoyed working

with this concepts and have enjoyed the

challenge.

Here is Zavier and Lana sorting out the

present and past tense words into correct

boxes. It’s not as easy as you think!

Swim, swam, swum rise, rose, risen

Slay, slew, slain lie, lay, laid.

Here again Ruby, Shakoda, An-

naleise and Jeremy play another

game with high frequency words

and a spinner.

These games played allow the stu-dents to converse with each other,

learning how to share, take turns, support each other and except help.

Mackenzie and Emily play a

game of bingo using sight words.

Automaticity is the game!! This

game provides the students an

opportunity to revise and become

quicker at reading their words.

This will contribute to children’s

reading success.

Also they played a game looking

at different kinds of verbs. We are looking at various verbs to use with our writing in English.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Better Behaviour = Better Learning

PBL Focus of the Week – Bullying No Way! This Friday the 15

th of March Jandowae Prep – 10 State School will stand united with over 5600 schools across the

nation to send a powerful message that bullying and violence is NEVER OK.

We will be holding a special assembly with guest presenter Senior Constable David Holmes-Brown. Friday will be a

free dress day and students are encouraged to wear orange. There will be a sausage sizzle, free wristbands, art

activities and will culminate with the whole school creating the words, ‘Be Kind’ on the oval which will be photo-

graphed by the local council using a drone.

At Monday’s assembly, students recited the following ‘Bullying No Way Pledge’ - I believe that everybody has the

right to live in a community where they feel safe, included, valued and accepted regardless of differences. I pledge

to be respectful of others and stand up against bullying whenever and wherever I see it. Throughout the week, stu-

dents wore ‘Bullying No Way’ ribbons as a sign that they supported the pledge. Our message this week to all stu-

dents is that, bullying is NEVER OK and most of all, ‘Be Kind’.

Parents and carers wishing to know more about bullying and supporting your children can access information at,

https://bullyingnoway.gov.au/YourRole/Pages/For-Parents-and-carers.aspx

Stay safe, be respectful towards one another, take responsibility for your actions and keep learning.

Warm regards

David Doogan PBL Coordinator
